What was the availability of the Treasures like last Feb?

Post by Wonderlicious »

Okay, this may sound an odd topic title, but what was availability for the last wave of Walt Disney Treasures like last February? I'm off to the US of A next February, and am pondering on buying a few DVDs that aren't available in similar quality editions if not at all in Region 2 (and yes, I have a multi-region DVD player as of today, so no need to moan on about DVD regions ). As the Walt Disney Treasure tins, even the Rarities and maybe even the 2nd volume of Donald are pretty much unknown at this point to surface in Region 2 (they could but due to international policies could not), this may make my shopping list next February. However, due to the limits of the sets, do you think that the Treasures, especially Donald and Rarities (which are pretty much the ones that interest me the most), will be easy to find two months after hitting the streets? Or should I just scrap the theory and order the tins online?

I'm ready to give up on predicting the Treasures' availability. They seem to be a bit unpredictable. It really depends on the number they print. I would guess that two months later, you should probably still be able to find them in at least some stores (though there are no guarantees), but by that time, selection may be starting to slowly dwindle, which means the best tins might be already taken.

I didn't know the Treasures of Wave 4 were hard to find yet.

But still, I wouldn't take any chances and just order them as soon as they're available for (pre-)order.

^I don't think they are all that difficult to find, although I haven't seen them in a single store I've been into in a long time, but I would expect Donald to be a hotter commodity.

February - should not be a problem. The Wave 4 ones are getting hard to find but not impossible.

Where I live, we never even got Wave 4 in my local Borders, WalMart, Barnes and Noble, Target, and Circuit City. So I have given up. :(

I notice that, with the exception of "Tomorrowland", all the Wave 3 and 4 Treasures are still available from Amazon.com, so they're still obtainable somewhere.

Given that you can often get really good discounts if you pre-order, my advice would be to order Wave 5 online. The discounts help counteract the postage.

Wave 5 availablity in February

Post by Mouseketodd »

When you arrive in the US next February, will you be staying with friends/acquaintances, or will you just be here for business?

If you have friends you will be meeting, perhaps you could send them money to buy the Treasures upon public release; then collect the titles from them when you arrive.

If the Rarities volume REALLY includes the kind of titles being listed on UltimateDisney.com, I believe it could become scarce.

Nope, I'm going on a school trip, so your theory (which is a very good one, I must add) won't work in this case. I think that I may actually play it safe and order online, to tell the truth. Why didn't I think of that before?
