Return of Jafar and The King of Thieves

Post by Lady »

Does anyone know if they will be re-releasing the Return of Jafar and/or The King of Thieves as special edition dvds after they release the Aladdin Platinum next year? I'm hoping that since 2003-2004 is being devoted to the Lion King, Lion King 1.5 and Lion King 2, maybe they will do the same for the Aladdin sequels in 2004-2005?

I don't think much of the Return of Jafar, but I liked the story and soundtrack to the King of Thieves.

On a side note, does anyone know if they will be including a new scene in Aladdin (like they did with Beauty and the Beast and Lion King) when they release it in IMAX theatres and on DVD?

Sorry... no info... but im guessing that if the whole lion king bit succeeds... then they'll be doing the same with al.

:o :o You're kidding me right??? Return of Jafar is like the best disney sequel ever released!!!!!! :jawdrop:

No.... you see.... with lion king and beauty and the beast.... they added in a scene that was in the broadway play of that name. aladdin hasn't become a broadway play, (yet.... hey! wouldnt it be cool if they did a broadway aladdin?! lets keep our fingers crossed...) so they wont be adding any new scenes... though they most likely will include in the special features lost concepts that never made the movie or deleted scenes that didn't make the final cut.
as for imax.... i have absolutley no idea whats planned., but personally i dont think it will end up happening. though i hope it does.

They could to this - and it seems the most likely, quite a few song idea's were dropped. But remember also the Disneyworld Aladdin stage show as a whole new musical number written just for that.

Yeah... but it's not as big a production as a broadway musical and a stageshow song might not be enough for a new scene in a movie... plus think how this would look on the cover:

'Including the special extended version of the movie with an all new scene from the stage show'

see what i mean?

Well, they only really promote "an all-new song" and it would be an all-new song.

My guess is they will use an abandoned song from the movie.

It's likely Aladdin will have an "all-new song" inserted in, as leaked DVD lists from Disney list "Aladdin:Special Edition".

I think it's pretty much guaranteed that a) Aladdin will have a new song and b) the sequels will become "special" editions on DVD. My reasoning for "a" is (like 2099 said) all listings for Aladdin have been noting it as a "Special Edition". This makes sense because it seems the big four (Mermaid, Beauty, Aladdin, and Lion King) are, besides being amongst the more popular Disney movies, are the easiest of the platinums to add scenes to since most, if not all, of the lead animators are still living. This is further evidenced in how the big four were spoofed in the Inter-Stitch-al trailers for Lilo and Stitch.

As for the sequels, they're likely to get SE treatment because when Beauty and the Beast came out on DVD, its two sequels were released, a while after The Lion King comes to DVD its sequels will be released, and even when Pocahontas goes SE in January, its sequel will go SE shortly afterwards. So it's safe to say that Return of Jafar and King of Thieves will get SE treatment. Yeah, I ramble on too much, don't I? :P

Well Disneykid pretty much wraps it up in a nutshell. Oh and Aladdin is being preped up for a broadway run as it The Little Mermiad, Alan Menken has confirmed it, and is working on additional songs for each stage version. I believe Jasmine is finally going to get her own solo... who knows, Aladdin might go the way of the Lion King and instead of a deleted song, they might just do one of the new songs from the stage version, and who knows each might advertise the other, movie/dvd and stage version...

I really like the song "You don't Come out of then Air".

I did not like the Return of Jafar, as young and excited as i was when it came out, I was no dummy and was able to pick up on evey flaw from that movie, but I think, if I can remeber it was cute, and I will probably own, i wonder if they will do the I II III thing like they did with BATB on the spines of the DVD's. Also I can kind of excuse Jafar by thinking that it was mostly an opening for the series much like Stitch! The Movie or I guess you could even include Tarzan and Jane.

Well that's enough for now. :)

And by the way... once again I would just like to point out the Aladdin and Jasmine were married at the end of the first movie!!!

Yeah, I always considered the ending with them in fancy purple outfits flying the carpet through fireworks to be their wedding. It makes a much nicer wedding than the one in King of Thieves, ;)

I loved both of the sequels and I hope they put all 3 of the Aladdins out with a send away box set like they did with the 3 Beauty & The Beasts (Only 2 differences being 1)a larger supply of boxes since I read of many people not getting theirs & 2)This is a box set worth getting since the Aladdin sequels are SO much better than the wretched B&TB ones).

They never actually said they were married..... that was just the assumtion! obviously disney meant it to be a sort of wedding, but they left it open for a sequel!

I understand that they are experimenting with The Little Mermaid and may not stage it after all - it depends on how convincing they can replicate an undersea environment and movement on stage.

But they are doing Tarzan and Pinocchio? A Special Edition Pinocchio with an all new Song in 2008 anyone?

Correct me if I am wrong but why in the heck would Disney make Aladdin 2 and 3 because Aladdin and Jasmine were suppose to tied the KNOT IN THE FIRST ONE!

In one scene from Aladdin, Jasmine and her father were talkin about how she had to pick a husband in less than three days because Jasmine was suppose to get married! :)

But she had to choose a husband in three days, not actually get married. You have to get technical to allow the sequels to make sense.

I really don't see where they could put a new song into Aladdin. They could possibly use the newly written Jasmine song "To Be Free" that's in the California Adventure show (Which I saw last month and it's fantastic!), but that's not really a big showstopper worth animating. Most of the unused songs from Aladdin weren't integral to the story. The majority were thrown out after the story was changed. Jafar had an awesome song called "Why Me" but it was replaced by "Prince Ali (Reprise)" ultimatley. They both had the same message but the reprise was shorter and more to the point.
