The Emperor's New Groove: The New Groove Edition

Post by goofy108 »

Just wondering...

The end of this year has three main sequels coming with it, Tarzan II (already released), Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch (coming August 30th), and Kronk's New Groove (coming in December). We now know Tarzan will be released in October to support its new sequel and we've known for awhile Lilo & Stitch has been delayed to support its new sequel (or so it seems). I notice a pattern! Does anyone else think that we might see a re-release of The Emperor's New Groove anytime soon to support the new sequel and/or the new TV Show?

I believe this is a possibilty. Of course there is no true need but there was no need for a re-release of Tarzan. And Disney does seem to be on a 2-Disc Frenzy right now. I don't have any of the Collector's Edition DVDs and now they are so expensive. I was thrilled about the news of a Tarzan re-release and I would be happy to see this re-release soon.

What do you think? Would you like this? Do you think it could happen?

Well I have to tell you that this thread gave me some perspective. While I don't own the Tarzan CE, I do have TENG CE, and I now understand how the Tarzan owners felt about its re-release coming before Lilo & Stitch. :-P

To answer your question- it seems like it would make sense, but Disney already has so much slated for the end of this year, it would be uncharacteristic of them to add yet another 2-disc reissue of an animated classic. Who knows, though, they're making all kinds of unexpected moves these days.

I doubt it, because both the single-disc and double-disc editions of New Groove are still available. Also, the rest of the year is so packed with major releases as it is (L&S2, both Toy Story movies, Cinderella, Tarzan, Kronk, and possibly/hopefully L&S SE) that I doubt there's room for another reissue.

However, I definately hope -- however unlikely -- that the single-disc TENG is taken out of print and the 2-disc is given a price drop to $29.99 SRP. 2-disc releases seem to be the standard these days anyway, and $40 is a tad steep, so I could see it undergoing a price drop (hopefully perminantely but also possibly temprarily) and having a temporary repromotion as Disney has been doing with certian DVDs all year (the previous Pixar releases to promote The Incredibles; Gibli Wave 1 to promote Howl's Moving Castle; the assortment of DVDs to promote Disneyland's 50th anniverrsary, etc.)

But that's unlikely.

A reissue is even more unlikely.

So, no, probably not.

Re-issue of TENG nope I don't think so. First of all TENG didn't sell that well. Finally many people or Disney fans dislike the film.

I think when Kronk's New Groove comes out they're going to sell both the single disc and the Collector's Edition more. I mean when you go to a store they hardly sell any copies of either edition. So I think when the sequel comes out well just see more of both editions. I don't see why they'd need a new version!

I also don't think that's possible. TENG is still available to order online yet it's hard to find in stores (I speak of the 2-disc). But then again, if Disney wants to get all organized with packaging... :p then it'll happen.
Would you like this? Do you think it could happen?
No, because I thought the 2-Disc was fine overall. But to be honest, I'm glad I didn't pay the SRP for it, and paid less than $20 for it.

It was a funny film!

They might quietly rerelease it with a promo for the spin off and some other new trailers, but I doubt we'll see a whole new release.

If anything they just might pump out a bunch more copies of the 1 disc edition.

I support the idea of the TENG and KNG pack, that mean if you want the first you have to buy the second, or viceversa

It's true. It has been announced that Tarzan will recieve a Special Edition DVD this October in the United States. Sorry. I wasn't clear. I always assume people know I'm talking about the US.

Well, it hasn't been confirmed yet, so we're still waiting to see what materializes on that.

The Emperor's New Groove Re-release Oct. 18th

Post by Disneykid »

Well, I guess a lot of people on these boards have been proven wrong. According to this site's main page, The Emperor's New Groove: Collector's Edition will be re-released as a "New Groove Edition." Although this is good news for those who've yet to pick up the (still in print) Collector's Edition, I have to admit I'm still peeved that Disney's re-releasing all of these 2-discers when Lilo & Stitch's SE is still in limbo. I guess Disney will be taking the plunge into Blu-Ray very soon since they're re-releasing old CE's left and right while adding new ones. It makes me wonder how long it'll be before they re-release Atlantis: The Lost Empire (maybe they'll try to tie it with the inevitable Hunchback: SE since both share the same directors?).

If you ask me, Disney is getting a little silly over these re-releases; this one even more so. I mean, both the original releases are still in print! So there's going to be 3 different versions on the market now? Do the bonus features of this new 2-disc release differ in any significant way (ie. stuff other than kiddie games/music videos) than the original "Ultimate Groove" Edition.

Like everyone else I am a bit surprised over this release. I recently purchased the Collectors Edition when Bestbuy.com was selling it for like $16 or so. However, I was not too impressed with the "Making of" feature on the second disc. I thought it could have been put together better and go more in depth with the story. It seemed to be that it was more of "How to make a Disney animated feature," which is awesome but I would also want a documentary about the specific Emperor's New Groove creation. That aside, all the other features were great. Only a new "Making of" would get me to buy this new release.

I am happy that both these dvd are coming out!!! It give a chance for the people who were'nt in to DVD back in the day to get a chance now!!! Smart move by Dvd because every year more, and more people buy DVD players. Also the holidays are soon upon us, that means even more players to be sold, and it will lead to movies like tarzan and new groove to be out there for the consumer.

I'll pass on this one; I already have the Collector's Edition. But I do wish the packaging matched my other DVDs.....

Oh, darn it! That's what I hate about these rereleases, the packaging is going to match the other DVDs and mine isn't.

Well, who wants to bet the cover will be terrible compared to the awesome one on the CE?

C'mon Lilo & Stitch 2005, c'mon!
