Disney to try its hand at Digimon (again)
For some odd reason, it appears Disney has decided to (properly) translate and dub the 4th Digimon theatrical film; known in Japan as "Diablomon Strikes Back" and soon to be known here as "Revenge Diaboromon". This was based on Season Two of the show, and is something of a sequel to the 3rd movie (but only in that the same villain returns).

It also appears they're dubbing movies 5 & 6 (based on Season Three) and 7 (based on Season Four).

I guess it could've been their success with the Studio Ghibli film; but I'm curious why Disney would pull this now instead of when Digimon was at its height of popularity. Also, the movie they're doing is based on the second season, which hasn't aired for years in Canada (I'm not sure about the U.S., but Disney appears to by focusing on the 4th season, probably because that's the one they did themselves after buying it).
I'm looking forward to it, personally, as I've only ever seen the film in very bad quality on my computer (and in Japanese, which I don't really understand); although I'll have to wait for DVD release. Same goes for the 3rd season movies; although I think I'll skip the Frontier movie, as that season never appealed to me. Perhaps these movies are going to be a way of testing the waters for a bigger release; hopefully DVD season box sets of the show.
I'm curious what will Disney do if these do well in ratings and on DVD? For one, I hope they repair the mutilation done to the first 3 movies under FOX's direction. These three films (1 & 2 based on Season One and 3 based on Season Two) were cut and pasted together into a nightmare of plot-holes, cheesy cliches and nonsensical dialogue called Digimon: The Movie taking place early in the North American Season 2.

I wish they had dubbed these back when I still liked Digimon. It won't be as good because some of the original voice cast isn't doing voice acting anymore. If they air on TV, I'll definately check them out, but I won't buy them on DVD.
Now if only they would just dub the first three movies properly now instead of cutting loads of footage and merging three movies into one.

What? I thought this was a whole separate thing since it looked different and it was by differnt artists. Are you talking about the one where they had to fight the monster online and all the world's children are watching and then the whole thing with Terriermon and the pink one? I'm confused. What were the first three movies?TM2-Megatron wrote:For one, I hope they repair the mutilation done to the first 3 movies under FOX's direction. Also, is the 4th season the one where the kids become their digimon and they're like Digimon warriors or whatver? I've only seen the first or second or third episode.

Movie 1: The one where Tai and Kari are little kids and first meet Koro/Agu/Greymon.Kram Nebuer wrote:What? Movie 2: The fight with Diablomon on the internet.
Movie 3: The one were Wallace is introduced/fight with Cocomon.
These were all mixed together to make Digimon: The Movie in the U.S. The three movies were horribly butchered and had a number of scenes cut out, including an alternate plot for movie 3.
Correct.Kram Nebuer wrote:Also, is the 4th season the one where the kids become their digimon and they're like Digimon warriors or whatver? I've only seen the first or second or third episode.
