Hmm, ripped off? Question about SLEEPING BEAUTY R2 UK.

Post by JLB »

Hello,
I recently bought Sleeping Beauty - 2 Disc Collector's Edition from e-bay for not a low-price. The seller had 99,8 % positive feedback and had almost 100 different auctions. But I got the DVD today, and noticed that it didn't have a hologram, and that it sais 2 DISC COLLECTOR'S EDITION when on the play.co.uk site the cover is the same, but it sais DELUXE EDITION..was the DVD released in 2-3 different ways in the UK? And do UK dvd's have holograms? And there was no insert, but there was a place in the dvd-case for an insert.

Thanks in advance.

No, you were not ripped off. I believe my cover also has a CE title on it. About the hologram, I don't really know... But I doubt a bootloeg would have 2 discs at all.

BTW, this belongs in the International forum.
And also, welcome to the UD forum.

Thanks.
I just thought of why it had no hologram, it SHOULD have come with a digipack-cover with a hologram, and the plastic-case I got IN it without a hologram. But I received mine without the digipack cover, and no hologram. :(

Sleeping Beauty does not come in a digipack cover. Maybe the first printing of it did, but newer ones no longer do, maybe only in France.

It didnt come in a digipack it did come with a slipcover, but it seems the slipcover was only for a limited time. Anyway i've taken a piccy of where the hologram should be, and also a piccy of the booklet that should have been included.

(Its on the back of the cover, the dvd was released before they started adding the holograms to the spine)

Theres the booklet.

Sorry to say it but if it doesnt have a hologram then it could be that it is most likely a bootleg. I've never seen a Disney dvd without one. Hope that helps. :)

But then again, what bootleg goes all the way and makes a 2nd disc?

Well i doubt very highly that it is a bootleg. First of all the retailers who are advertising it as "deluxe" i have no idea as to why, because it is just a special edition.

Also originally the Sleeping Beauty DVD had it's hologram on it's slipcover, not on the case, so one of 3 things could have happened.

1) The person who sold it to you bought the dvd and threw the slipcover away or it got damaged or they forgot about it.

2) The store he bought it from lost the slipcover, or the slipcover got damged on the shelves so the store threw it away.

3) BVHE made a mistake and knowing that the slipcovers would carry the hologram, didn't get the holograms put on the cover itself not realising that surplus copies would go without.

It seems though this was corrected with later print runs as Andy's DVD shows it has a rectangular hologram, but when it was originally released SB had the circular hologram.

As has been said it is highly unlikely that someone would go to the trouble of making such an accurate replica, so I think you're safe.

I don´t know if this help, but here, Bambi was the first DVD to include the square-like hologram

We have had the square hologram since last March (2004) though.
