One of My Ferrets Died Today

Post by Lazario »

I had to have him put down because as it turns out he just had internal bleeding and bruises from some kind of disease or something. I'm afraid I don't know why or what caused it. He didn't seem right for some time now, and I feel good about this decision because finally I think his suffering is over and he's in a better place.

I know this is a post about a ferret and I already started a topic about ferrets. But I feel this should stay separate because I'm not going to be posting for several days. I'm going to be taking some time to deal with this and get certain things in my life in order.

I also want to express that it's one of the most horrible things to have something or someone you love be beyond help. I was assured that there was nothing anyone could have done to save W.F. - his initials, and yes I called him that long. He was an albino ferret, so I mostly called him "Whites" for short.

Thank you all ahead of time for your words of support. I'll be back in about three days.

That's sad.

I once had a hampster that died. I accidently left his cage open so he fell out on died on impact. My mom screamed "Ahhh, there's a dead rat on the floor!!!" I was like "that's not a rat, that's my hampster." I started crying. Then we got a cat and he's 11 now. It doesn't affect me now seeing how it happened 12 years ago but man did I cry.

My hampster died in my hands when I was 12, I still have yet to get over that and ever feel compelled to get another hampster. The death of a pet can often times be harder then that of a family member. Less people understand the grief of losing a pet. Few boss's would allow a day off because a pet died, for instance. I hope the best for you lazario. You sound like a great ferret owner. Good luck to you.

I'm sorry about that Lazario. I know what it feels like to have a pet die. I'm sorry you had to go through that but I'm glad your ferret is in a better place.

My dog died last fall. I had him since I was 3, and he lived for 12 long years. He was my very first friend and I miss him so much. We think he may have been poisoned by something. He had been acting very strange for about two days. We thought he just had a little cold and we didn't make a big deal out of it. After a few days of him not getting better, we made an appointment for him at the vet the next day, and we were about to take him, but when I got home from school, he was dead. I cried for so long (how would you feel if your first friend was dead?). I had two puppies other than him at the time, and we were all very close; I could tell they knew he was dead and that they were sad. I don't think I will ever forgive myself for knowing something was wrong with him and not trying to do something about it until a few days later. His death had a huge effect on me. I can't watch anything sad on TV that has to do with animals anymore or else I cry. I know I cry because I miss him, but mostly I cry because I feel so guilty about his death. I feel like I caused it somehow because I didn't call the vet the moment I saw him acting strange.

Ever since then, I have gone out of my way to make sure that my other two dogs live long and healthy. I've become even more attached to them since my first dog died and I'm dreading the day their time comes.

To my first dog and first friend: I hope you're happy wherever you are and I hope you don't hate me for not trying to find out what was wrong with you when I first saw you were sick. Please forgive me.

I am really sorry to hear about Whites.

Just remember the good times, and that you gave him a wonderful life, and how happy he made you, and how cute he was.

Also know that you will see him again someday.

May the Lord bless you, in this your time of grief.

R.I.P. Whites

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. We had to put my dog to sleep many years ago and it was one of the saddest days of my life. My roommate just recently lost her dog of 9 years (just last week) and I know how hard it was on her.

Lazario, I feel for your loss and please know that Whites is in a better place now.

Sorry to hear about your ferret.
I've lost a few pets and it's really hard. They are like part of the family.
I hope you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry to hear the news, Lazario, I really feel for you.

I know how attached we become to our pets and how hard it is when this sort of thing happens.

Just a few weeks ago my rabbit Zoey died unexpectedly, probably due to stress and heat exhaustion. The cage had to be moved around outside because of the construction going on at our house, and not only was the heat index was over a hundred that day, she was probably terrified by all the strange people. We made sure she stayed in the shade and had plenty of food and water, but I guess that wasn't enough.

She had quite the personality, much different than the rabbit I had in high school. Both were litter trained and were allowed to roam the house freely at times. My first rabbit was pretty easy-going and liked to snuggle, but Zoey was more independent and had a temper. She was a lot of fun though, and liked to sit with me on the couch while I watched TV.

I have a deep love for animals, and I've had a few die in my arms. That's right, there's nothing more horrible than not being able to help the ones you love. But rest assured that you did everything in your power. Wherever your ferret is now, take comfort in the fact that Whitey is in a better place and knows you did everything you could.

Take care now.

Sorry to hear that Lazario! :(

I remember when my fish died when he was a year old and I cried!(I was 6) Then I got another fish who died in a month. I didn't feel that sad since I knew fish died quickly then. And while they didn't die, I had to give away my turtle and duck! So I know what it's like to lose a pet.

Anyway I noticed the title was, "One of my ferrets died today". So does that mean you have more than one? So it can't be all that bad.

But still I'm sorry if you miss you ferret! :(

Yes I have more than one. But there's just something about first of all the way I take care of my ferrets and worry about them so much more than other animals, that being most likely because of the fact that they do get so much sicker than other animals. They're so small and fragile that anything you can imagine will kill them. So I just take it much harder when a ferret dies and it's not because of old age. And of course ferrets have so much personality and don't live as long. I've had ferrets die before and the first ferret I found dead absolutely devastated me, I would break down even to think about it. Not a crying breakdown, but I wouldn't be able to think. And I had nightmares.

It all depends on what you want to do and how big your check book is. You can burry it, burn it or sometimes people put there pets in musileamus(not to sure how to spell that). Or if it's a gold fish just flush it down the toilet that's what my parents did when my sister's gold fish (or any other fish) died.
