Fantasia 2000 isn't going to be a Platinum Edition, if anything it will most likely get a special edition when Fantasia: Platinum Edition comes out.

Actually, Fantasia 2000 could be getting a Platinum. When the new dates were released some sites said Fantasia 2000 would be also getting a Platinum Edition. However I believe these sites were making errors, it could possilby happen.

I don't own 101 Dalmatians because I was dissapointed with the DVD itself. I bought it and resold it. I'm proud to say I own the rest of the other Limited Issue titles except Lion King II becuase I hated it (and all the other sequels Disney Makes) except for B&TBeast Christmas and Return to Neverland.

I also don't own Make Mine Music because I thought it was kind of boring other than Peter and the Wolf.

I do own a Song of the South I purchased from Britain...still think that's pretty cool.

In May of 2003, Disney announced they would be adding Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty to the Platinum Collection for a total of 14 titles.

Well sleeping beauty already has a two disc set, with plenty of bonus features.

Most likely, what they'll probably do is simply repackage the 2-disc set under the Platinum banner, and maybe add a few more features (and hopefully lose that music video Once Upon Another Dream).

Anyways, I think I left off Atlantis from my list, don't know why (maybe because it's a forgettable action film?). I'll buy the 2-disc eventually, but if I can find it for under $20.

The only Disney DVD I deliberately do not own is Home on the Range. I can't stand Roseanne's voice. However, I will probably buy it after I get all the other animated classics that I have not bought yet just so my collection of animated classics will be complete.

I will never buy Home on the Range or Atlantis....I didn't care for either show. The others have some chance if I win the lottery. Until then I pick and choose.

* Home on the Range - Rented it only - only worth rental price to me unless its part of a 2 for $20 or 3 for $30 deal or discounted to less than $10 in the future. Maybe if its on sale around Thanksgiving Sales, and I can find it, I'd consider it.

I can't say there's anything I flat-out REFUSE to buy...most that I don't have are because there's nothing available right now that I want desperately enough to buy right now on my tight budget. I've preordered Cinderella; anything else that's currently available I think will just go on my Christmas list because I am lacking in the money department. The only ones I can see myself buying are Nightmare Before Christmas (don't own that DVD and have taken to watching the movie a LOT at Halloween) and The Emperor's New Groove Ultimate Groove 2-disc edition if they still have it at Once Upon a Toy like they did last month when I was too broke to buy.

Fantasia 2000: I did see this at IMax but since the first one scared me as a child. I won't pick up this one either.

So, which ones you don't want and why?

I don't want:

- the "anthology films"; from "Saludos Amigos" till "Melody Time" . I want the real feature films.

- The Aristocats: I watched it once and didn't like it that much.

- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: it can be great but I just don't like Winnie the Pooh.

Saludos Amigos - I haven't seen it yet, so I can't exactly want it.

The Three Caballeros - I've always been curious about this film, having never seen it in its entirety, but it's not a priority for me to have until I have several other DACs

Package films - I want the package films, so they don't really belong on the list. But I'd prefer if they'd be combined (for example: Make Mine Music and Melody Time as a two-disc two-movie collection to save space)

The Jungle Book - I never could get into this film, so it may be a Platinum I pass over, or at least wait and let Kram buy it, then I'll watch it and decide.

The Aristocats - I enjoyed the film somewhat, but I'm not going to buy it in its current condition. Every DAC from 1943 to 1949 and 1970-1989 deserve better editions than what's already out.

Home on the Range - I just didn't like it. And I even got it for free in WDW, but I gave it to Kram.

By "original animated classics," do you mean films made while Walt was still around? Because in that case I'm pretty sure I want them all, including the "package" films. I admit I'm at least as interested in them for their historical value as their entertainment value...but then I'm the kind of guy who's happy to sit & watch the Alice shorts on the Treasures Rarities. I miss the original movie house on WDW's Main Street, where vintage Mickey in B&W used to play in a continuous loop. I live in hope that someday someone will unearth some old Oswald the Rabbi shorts...<sigh>

I want them all. I want to have the full "Animated Classic" line, just to a) have it as a collection, and b) so when i do eventually have kids I can show them the movies and cartoons I grew up with which have influenced me greatly.

Even the package films have shorts which bring back memories to me, since many of those shorts aired as seperate cartoons later on.

I don't indentify with some of the 60's/70's/80's movies such as Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, The Black Cauldron (which I've never seen), The Rescuers, Oliver & Company, The Aristocats & the Fox and the Hound, but i still appreciate what they did for the company, and how they are also apart of the Animated line, and would like to have them. My sisters who do like these films a bit more than I do (Sword/Hood & F&TH especially) would also hurt me if I didn't purchase them.

I wouldn't mind waiting for better releases of any of them, and if they do get a better treatment, I will double dip to upgrade.

This topic is really quite interesting and timely now that Cinderella has been released on DVD. At this point in time every animated classic has now been released. So it is appropriate for people to put their choices into action. I have in my collection at least one DVD release of each of them. Some like Tarzan I have many editions, Why? Because they kept releasing many editions and most of the others I have two of, both the Region 1 and Region 4 releases.

However there are obviously some that I enjoy and appreciate more than others. Some of the anthology features such as Melody Time and Make Mine Music, I find very hard to watch as a whole. Though at times, after doing some reading about the animation behind one of the segments, I will watch that particular segment and really get a lot out of it.

I believe that the classics that we grew up with, the ones that we saw first at the cinema, those are the ones that we will enjoy and value most on DVD. So for me my favourites will always be Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion Kong and Pocahontas. As these created a most magical and unforgettable cinema and life experience.

Though with DVD's we are also getting the opportunity to experience the magic of releases made before we were even born. An example ... Bambi, I had only ever seen the video release and although it was ok, the movie had never really grabbed me. So when I got the DVD, I was not really expecting to have a different response. What a surprise I got, wow, the movie was absolutely fresh, new and amazing. I enjoyed it so much that the next day I found my video version and watched that to see what the difference was. And the difference was that the video was quite dark in areas and looked like watchng a piece of historic footage. The platinum release reatored the colour and the brightness, so allowing me to to be able to engage with the story in a way that the earlier releases on video didn't.

So how do we really know what ones that we do not want in our collection. I think the answer will need to be based on what each of the animated classics mean to us individually. I am willing now to be surprised with the quality of some of the earlier animated classics and to fall in love with the classics that I once thought were only just ok.

I have all the animated classics on VHS and few on DVD but some of it that I don't have. But one main thing that I don't want is "Make Mine Music". I've never seen this until I read the review on UD and realized that this film was edited out the entire segment of Martin and the Coys. I definately don't want to buy that on DVD until the uncut version is released.
