You might be right! To me Rapunzel's dress looks German, but I'm not sure what they modeled it after.Disney Duster wrote:DDivinity,Rapunzel, is Rapunzel's dress really German? I heard they use a French renaissance style on the film...maybe I'm wrong... Snow White's is very German though, right? Her film was definately German styled. I think Snow White's dress would be good if the colors were just...fixed a bit. If her yellow was a less bright gold, or white, and if her blues and reds were deep and purplish.

I also think that Cinderella wears work clothes more than rags because she is okay doing the work her house needs, she's more dignified.Semaj wrote:I always found it interesting how Disney's Cinderella was entitled to wear such a clean dress, as a show of some dignity for her lowly status, when in other versions, she's reduced to rags to emphasize said status.
I don't know, I thought several of us mentioned her dress. I for one love it and all the details. And of course I love her hair too (my own is nearly ankle length), but I don't count her hair as being part of her wardrobe at all. Jasmine's is nearly as long as Rapunzel's when Rapunzel has hers in a braid. We could play with Jas's hair too...and Aurora's, and Ariel's, and well, everyones!!!pap64 wrote:I'm surprised that no one has yet to talk about Rapunzel. One HUGE advantage Rapunzel has is that with her movie being in CG, the animators can design costumes with lots of texture and fabrics that makes the wardrobe in the movie stand out.

Funny how Rapunzel's dress technically falls into the peasant girl category, yet is is very rich, very textured and designed, almost like it cost Mother Gothel a fortune to design and make.
The TV Tropes page also mentions that her hair could be part of the costume, especially when the little girls braid it and put flowers on it. Rarely does hair compliment an outfit very well.
It's a very simple design but one that is striking, and again, I am surprised few have mentioned it.
Yeah, the whole light pink and light purple scheme doesn't really work for me. Too Easter-eggy, or something. And then the fabric itself seems to be too satiny and shiny. It just reminds me of a child's princess costume. I mean, obviously that's what it's going to become -- I just would have hoped the original would look nicer.pap64 wrote:I'm surprised that no one has yet to talk about Rapunzel. Most likely, though they have no trouble dressing Cinderella in deep sea blue sometimes.Rapunzel wrote:I wish they would use dark colors for a princess. I think they have gone through all the pastel colors for dresses now. Except no one is in apricot/pastel orange, and Belle's yellow might be too deep to be called pastel. Otherwise we have silver, pinks, pale blues, pale green, and Rapunzel's pale purple.
Maybe they think dark colors are not "innocent" enough.
