ummmmmmm

I do believe the announcement regarding Tarzan reads as follows

STREET DATE: OCTOBER 18, 2005
Suggested retail price: $29.99 (2-disc DVD)
Rated: “G”
Feature run time: Approximately 88 minutes
Bonus materials not rated nor close captioned.
DVD aspect ratio: 1.66:1 enhanced for 16x9 TV frames
DVD Sound: Dolby® Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
Language: English audio, French audio, Spanish audio

Now can someone explain to me why this wouldn't mean that it is indeed 2-Disc...other than some other site is claiming that it's officially 1-Disc?

If Disney just released this announcement in the past few days i find it hard to believe it's not factual.

Am I wrong people?

It is hard to believe, but the reference to 2-discs is only in the technical specs and none of the bonus features announced would comprise a second disc. And "this other site" actually has the disc (singular) - so that pretty much ends the debate. What's disconcerting is how widely this was promoted as being a 2-disc SE - how many DVDs in the past few months have had trailers for it being a "2-Disc Set"? The initial artwork showed that as well. Why the change was made somewhere down the line, I have no idea, but Disney doesn't win, the customers don't win...you know who wins? Bootleggers.

If I didn't have the CE, I'd be quite upset. As it is, I feel the pain of those hoping this would be a porting of the 2-disc, or at least a mostly-ported deal like Toy Story. Who releases single-disc "Special Editions" anymore anyway?

This one really pisses me off and is a terrible case of false advertising. I will still get the DVD because I never got either the old 1-disc or CE versions from its original release and want the movie; I find buying this easier than hunting it down on eBay at the moment, especially since this fall is so crowded with DVDs. But it does bother me; Tarzan is one of the last of the Disney streak that "I grew up with," and I hold it dear, so I was really looking forward to seeing all of the extras. I guess I'll see those later whenever I do have the money and time to struggle through eBay in the attempt of finding a CE.

False advertisment for cheap DVD, how worse can it get?

I'm going to boycott this Tarzan: "Special" Edition until they release a 2-Disc set.

Hopefully I can still buy ENG for a cheap price too!

whats worse is that i'll still buy it because i dont have a copy of Tarzan on DVD yet.

Disney always finds some way to let me down

Walt's magic and legacy keep bringing me back for more though

What keeps me going is knowing that Walt wouldn't stand for ANY of this crap

I've been suspicious about these editions every since they were first announced. I really never understood the point of releasing them as 2-Discs when they already had adequate editions. Obviously, they are just trying to make some easy money by releasing sub-standard editions. It's kind of frustrating, because there a lot more disney movie that deserve better treatment in the first place. :(

For those of you with a Multi-region DVD player... Don't forget you can always import the 2 disc edition from Australia or Europe etc...

I can suggest "Ezydvd" in Australia and the link to their web site is below.. They even have a price reduction for this title at the moment that comes into effect on October 05...

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/779381

The price for the DVD is AU$18.03 for International customers (excludes our tax)... This converted is USD$13.72 plus postage..

International postage is AUD$5.50, which converts to USD$4.19.. Therefore the total cost for the 2 disc DVD, including postage would be USD$17.91..... Not too bad, huh !

Now you know how it feels to be an European disney fan...

IT SUCKS !

(I hope the new blu-ray/HD dvd's will mean that all regions get the same editions!)

Myself, I have no problem being a European Disney fan - I get my DVDs from wherever I please.

(hmm, I'd said just that already in another thread.)

Well as much as I'd like a 2 disc I mostly just want the film with this one (GASP) as I only have the VHS.

Disney has a gun to my head so I'll be forced to buy this substandard "special" edition. Quite a comedown after owning the CE but losing it in Hurricane Charley. I won't go to ebay where the prices are high & most are not authentic. I'd wait except God knows how long it'll be before it's released for a 4th time. I'll get the movie which I guess is a good thing since it had gone into the vault & this new release at least gets the movie available to buy again but I'm a very ticked off fan.

This sucks!!!!
Tarzan: SE and TENG: SE should have been 2 disc not 1 disc.
I prefer both Tarzan: CE and TENG: CE but I might just go ahead and buy the single disc to used those instead of my Collection Editions.

Like you said, I am upset. I started to change over to collecting DVDs from VHS right after Tarzan became OOP. I was to concentrated on grabbing the Platinums Snow White and Beauty and the Beast. I personally have never even remember seeing Tarzan CE in stores. I have seen ENG and Atlantis once each in stores, and they were 40 dollars. I would of bought them, but 40 dollars is a little much for me. Now to find out that Tarzan (which is one of my favs) is only coming to one disk DVD I am pissed, especially after they had said two disk, but change their minds.

As a 3rd release with only one disc Disney should drop the retail to $19.99 like most companies do with movies that have been released before. It's bad enough that it's a piss poor one disc but the retail price is a crime.

That's exactly how my situation with Tarzan plays Jake. I remember seeing Tarzan in the theatres with my Mom and my brother when I was 8, and it was released. I find it regally unfair to switch the contents of the DVD(s) from seemingly 2-Discs to 1-Disc. I was especially excited about Tarzan, as you said, because I have not intention to hunt the CE down on eBay, and when I see it in stores it is around $39.99, to $45.99, which in my POV is a bit ridiculous. I'm still excited that it's coming back to shelves though :). Maybe, Disney is playing a trick and we'll get this great set on the 18th. You'll sell.. :D

Based on the revised Press Release it appears to have the first disc of the new 2 disc editions only. The only addition over the International 2 disc re-issue is the new music video by EverLife.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
