:D I am so excited for this film! How much time remains till we get it here in Australia remains to be seen.

In the meantime I have a theory about the sharks. Could it be that they too are corrupt like Marina? I realize that she has Els but what if the sharks double crossed Triton which meant that he was delayed in rescuing Ariel.

My only other theory is that these sharks aren't sharks at all but rather are sword fish. They have sword fish noses to be sure so perhaps that is why they work for Trition, they arent really sharks at all. :D

Just my two cents.

I'm so enjoying this thread. I hope, if the Australian release of the dvd is delayed, that I can avoid reading the spoilers because Ariel and I have been together since the year we were both born (1989) and I'd hate to spoil our last feature film adventure together

Damn. I thought I was onto something with the sharks. :( But still, why don't they work for him in TLM2?

The cover looks really... clean. I guess that's what you get when you buy a children's book. I really want it, though. :( lol I'm grateful for any scans you can give us, Disney Villain! And thanks again for doing it in the first place!

You are all very welcome! I have been looking forward to this film for a long time, but now I’m extremely, extremely disappointed. The coloring book and Random House book shipped yesterday. Today I got the coloring book in the mail (scans below). I told myself that I would only read the first few pages, but curiosity got the best of me and I read the entire thing. The coloring book gives a simplified summary of the film. If you would like a specific instance scanned let me know and I’d be happy to post the page. After reading the coloring book and being excited for months over this film, I am now extremely disappointed. I hope and pray that the film has more to it than what was presented in the coloring book. Below (in white) I posted a summary of the pages in the coloring book. THEY ARE SPOLIERS!!!!! So read at your own risk (although it’s nothing exciting). I then posted my thoughts about the character of Marina Del Ray, and the film.

SPOILERS:

Under the sea lies a beautiful kingdom called Atlantica. Young princess Ariel loves king Triton very much. Every night Queen Athena sings a special song to Ariel and her sisters. Queen Athena sings a lullaby. King Trition gives the Queen a beautiful music box. Ariel and her sisters love seeing their parents happy. Look out-pirates! The queen races to save her music box-and swims right into danger! King Trition angrily bans all music from Atlantica!

Ten years later, Ariel wakes up to the first sign of spring. Marina Del Ray is the royal governess who takes care of the princesses. Benjamin is her kindhearted assistant. “Upp-uppy, my darlings!” Says Marina (referring to her pet eels). Marina doesn’t like taking care of the princesses. “I hate this job!” she tells Benjamin. Sebastian is King Triton’s chief of staff. Every morning, the princesses take a walk with their father. But Ariel wants to do something different. “Not Today!” replies King Trition. Ariel tries to have fun while the princesses are on their walk. King Trition is very upset! Trition punishes Ariel by making her scrape barnacles. Benjamin doesn’t like feeding Marina’s pets (referring to the eels). “Ooh, that Sebastian!” says Marina Del Ray. She wants his job. Marina imagines herself as King Tritons new chief of staff.

As Ariel scrapes barnacles, she hears something odd-music! (Ariel then runs into a small fish named Flounder who is singing). It’s against the law to play music! Palace guards catch the little fish. “Hi, I’m Flounder”, says the fish. “I’m Ariel”, says the little mermaid. They work together to escape from the guards. Ariel convinces Sebastian to let Flounder go. Later, Trition comes in to say good night. Ariel is still upset about being punished. Where is Flounder going? Ariel follows Flounder to the secret door. Whoops! (Ariel falls).

Ariel is greeted by musical clams. She has entered a secret nightclub called the Catfish Club! Ariel is thrilled to find such a wonderful place. The Catfish Club band is hopping tonight! Ink Spot plays keyboards, Shelbow is on drums, Cheeks plays the horn, and Ray-Ray plays the bass. The Catfish Club’s star performer (Sebastian) is not happy to see Ariel! “Wait! I won’t tell!” calls Ariel. But everyone swims away. For the first time in ten years, Ariel sings mother’s lullaby. It makes her feel better. Everyone in the Catfish Club comes back. They love Ariel’s singing! Ariel takes the musicians oath-to always help her fellow music lovers!

Trition orders Sebastian to watch over Ariel. Ariel’s sisters want to go to the Catfish Club, too! The next night, all the princesses have a great time at the Catfish Club! (Marina goes to check on the princesses and realizes that their beds are empty). Marina sees Sebastian and the princesses making music at the club. Marina tells King Trition about the Catfish Club. “This is how you watch over my daughters?” Trition asks Sebastian. “Lock them all away!” orders the king. (with Sebastian in the dungeon) Trition makes Marina his new chief of staff. King Trition destroys the Catfish Club! “I will not have music in my kingdom!” King Trition shouts.

I may not remember much about my mother, but I know she wouldn’t have wanted this!” Ariel says. Marina is very happy. Soon she’ll have all the power she ever wanted! The music Ariel loved is gone. The blossom is the only beautiful thing in her world now. Trition misses Athena, (apparently he walks through the palace garden where there is a statue of Him with Athena). Ariel decides to run away. The band is in the dungeon. (Ariel sets them free). “Come on”, Ariel says. “Lets go!” “Without music, Atlantica just isn’t hone”, Ariel says. Away from Atlantica, the band lets loose. Benjamin makes a discovery (Ariel is missing from her bed). King Trition wonders if he was too hard on Sebastian and the girls. “Ariel is missing!” cries Attina. “We’ve looked everywhere!” Trition is very worried.

Sebastian leads the band to a strange place they have never seen. “There’s more to this place than meets the eye,” Sebastian says. Marina dosen’t want to lose her new job! She has a plan but needs Benjamin’s key. “Who wants crab cakes?” asks Marina (speaking to her pet eels). As Ariel wakes up she hears something. Ariel finds her mother’s music box. “When your mother died, the whole kingdom was heartbroken,” says Sebastian. Ariel realizes that her father has forgotten how to be happy. Ariel decides to take the music box back to her father. The band is worried-they do not want to go back to Atlantica. They are afraid they will be arrested again. Ariel and Sebastian head back to Atlantica (alone). “Hey Ariel what’s up”, says Flounder. Meanwhile marina’s eels are hiding in the forest.

“Surprise!” cackles Marina Del ray. She does not want Ariel and her friends to return home. Ariel, Sebastian and Flounder escape the eels. (Marina and Sebastian begin fighting..in what looks like a typical Disney hero/villain showdown). Ariel and Flounder are trapped by the eels! The band comes to the rescue. Sebastian beats Marina. But Marina won’t give up. Ariel rushes to help Sebastian. King Trition arrives just in time to see Ariel in danger. (Ariel seems to be injured badly) “What have I donr?” Trition asks sadly. He begins to sing softly along with the music box, trying to comfort Ariel. (Ariel wakes up) “Daddy, let’s go home,” Ariel says.

After they return home, Sebastian is named court composer-and King Trition takes the musicians oath! Once again, Atlantica is filled with laughter, love, and music…even in the dungeon (we see Marina and Benjamin locked in a dungeon).

My Thoughts (mainly spoiler free):

The more I read the coloring book and look at the images, the more questions I ask. It is obvious by the coloring pages that there is more to the story. For example, we see an image of Marina all dressed up but the book never explains why. We also never find out why Marina keeps eels, nor do we know what happens to her (after she is arrested). There are also images from the trailer (like Trition walking by the merpeople as a young King) that are not here in the coloring book. There has to be more to this story. It would make no sense to just have Marina get locked up and then jump to the first film. It also makes NO SENSE for Disney to create an entirely new villain, when they have one created already (meaning Ursula) who obviously has a back story. This is all very odd. I am now anxiously waiting for that random house book to come in the mail. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

*sigh :( I really didn't want to, but it was there, so I read it.

I do understand what you mean about there missing some parts of the story, Disney Villain. It just doesn't sound complete. I do recognize some parts of the summary from the trailers & sneak peek (mainly the climax) but... I'm not sure, there's just something missing.

Nonetheless, thank you so much for all your time & hard work, Disney Villain! I sorta want to buy it now, too! You don't have to post any scans or anything, but are the drawings good? Are they all on-model, etc? Thanks again!

edit: Also, you can sorta tell that it was supposed to be released in February (as previously reported), since Ariel wakes up to the first day of spring.

Even if Marina turns out not to be related to Ursula in any way, I still think the film sounds and looks interesting. From the spoilers, it sounds better than Return to the Sea and many of the other sequels.

Put spoilers on that because people wouldn't get it unless they decided they wanted to be spoiled.

I know what you mean- it just doesn’t sound complete. I'm hoping and praying that the other book will have more information. According to Amazon.com and USPS the book is in transit and will be here (hopefully) by tomorrow afternoon. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the text or just view the pictures (I'm way to curious now!). Hopefully I'll have everything posted from the other book by tomorrow night.

One thing that irks me is: Marina having no relation to Ursula or Morgana. Why in world would Disney go through the trouble of creating an entirely new Villain from scratch, use electric eels, and have Marina say things like "my darlings" when they already established Ursula? It makes NO SENSE to me. Why would you go about creating a film that is meant to explain and answer all the mysteries of The Little Mermaid and leave the most important back story (Ursula) out? I have faith that this film has much more to it than we know. And your right about the film being released in February or even last November. Disney's Divinity, I agree with you. The film seems much better than some of the other sequels we've seen.

You are very, very welcome! I am a huge Ariel fan, and it's my pleasure to help out! For a coloring book everything is on model quite nicely. I will scan a few pages the second I get a chance. I also wanted to say Vermin Friends, that you have the best avatar!

gumby17, I am worried about this film, but the more I try to put the pieces together, the more I know that there must be more to it.

Oh yeah, and what about Sebastian's line, "there's more to this place than meets the eye"- what does it mean? The trailer showed it underwater, so I'm supposing that can't be the place where Athena died. Perhaps the place where Ariel used to play the piano (like in the still on the website)?

I think it's odd that if, Marina is Ursula, why does she want Sebastian's job, and not Triton's trident? I'm really hoping you're right- about it having much more to it than we know (so far, at least).

It's great that everything's on-model! On some of the coloring books I own, some of the characters are so off-model it's to the point of nonrecognition. And thanks for the comment on my avatar! lol :D

You know the "Catfish Club"? Could it be possible that it becomes Ariel's grotto? When I watch the musical sneak peek as well as the 5 minute sneak peek, it just... reminds me of it so much.

One last thing- could Athena's song be "the song of the sea" that Ariel refers to in "For A Moment"?

Well, thanks again, Disney Villain! Any scans you'd be willing to share with us would be fantastic!
