Re: Tarzan First Impressions
Disney is releasing new Tarzan merch. There must be a special kind of arrangement between Disney and the Burroughs estate since the only new Tarzan products released in the last few years have been sold exclusively at the parks.

Re: Tarzan First Impressions
A designer for Disney’s Limited Edition dolls had this to share about the merchandise rights to Tarzan:
Such a bizarre arrangement! Not only is she not going to be available online, but it sounds like she’s not even being released in Orlando??? Only Anaheim??
From the comments: https://www.instagram.com/p/C-G6KHwPPwL ... 1jcHlqNWhuA little extra info on why we've never done Tarzan merch - since it's not actually a Disney IP, and they don't have all merch rights anymore, the ONLY place a Tarzan doll can be sold is on Park property. That's why no online or D23 release.
We actually tried it in 2017 before TDS merged with Parks and there was no way legally to make it happen. :\

Re: Tarzan First Impressions
I have been searching for the thread this morning to talk about it! At least they gave us an explanation about why we can't have any Tarzan merchandise. What I can not understand is What make the parks different from the rest of shops. Maybe because they have the tree house in one of them?
I loved the doll but I am not from the USA and I can not buy her. I can only buy her from resellers.

Re: Tarzan First Impressions
This is why there'll never be a live action remake for Tarzan. From Disney anyway.

Re: Tarzan First Impressions
We figured as much already, but it's good to finally have official confirmation. The arrangement is not so bizarre, if you think about it. Different types of rights such as library rights, adaptation rights, consumer products rights, and park rights are usually negotiated and sold separately when licensing out an IP. Disney must have negotiated back when the original contract was formed to retain park rights in perpetuity or for a much longer time than other rights usually last. They are using that original park rights contract to be able to produce new merch based on Tarzan by only selling them at the parks. I'm certain that there hasn't been a new deal between Disney and the Burroughs estate. This is just a remnant of the original contract.UmbrellaFish wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 5:05 amSuch a bizarre arrangement! Sony acquired the live-action movie rights in 2022. Arad Productions/41 Entertainment acquired the TV animation rights in 2015, and The Whole Spiel/Terra Mater Studios acquired the TV live-action rights in 2023. It's clear the Burroughs estate has no qualms about licensing out the property again. If Disney wanted it, they could have it.Thumper_93 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 6:18 amDidn't Sony acquire the rights to make a new saga a few years ago?

Re: Tarzan First Impressions
We may not know all the true. This is good for Disney because they know that people want Tarzan's merchandise. Doing it this way they know that they are going to sell everything because resellers and collectors are going to buy as much as they can.Sotiris wrote:Sony acquired the live-action movie rights in 2022. As you said Disney could have done more to have the rights back.

Re: Tarzan First Impressions
I wonder if she’ll come to the other parks (domestic and international), but a release date just hasn’t been announced.
TBH, I did not want this doll. But I wish all fans had some opportunity to buy her. Why make merch at all if you’re not going to give people the opportunity to purchase? The scalpers make out best of all.

I wanted her but I think that she is going to be available only ar California. She's a D23 exclusive that can not be sold in D23.
Hope that resellers ask a moderate price for her. I could get her for 600€…

That makes sense, since it aligns with when the expo is in town.

The ornament is so beautiful. I collect them and sadly I can't add this one to my collection.
