Oh! and as far as Sword in the Stone and Aristocats go, i can see them poping up in the next year but we all know unpredictable disney can be.
Personally i would love to see a Sword in the Stone DVD. It's a childhood fav! And i'm trying to get rid of my Gold Collection, so i've been getting rid of them as they are re-released.
P.S. Hey singerguy04! I finally registered! you should know who i am.
All right, but if you did I find it just a bit strange why you'd still look specifically for a 25th Anniversary Edition of TBC to arrive in 2008 - it'll still only be 23 by then.

"The Little Mermaid III" isn't coming out until February 2009? Dang. That feels so far away for a DTV that they've already beagun to advertise and that has whole scenes of animation completed already. Also, I highly doubt you will ever see a schedule where a new Disney classic gets released every month. I mean, it's rare that we are getting 2 a week apart as we are with TLM and TFATH, but month to month classics is very rare. Especially with 2-disc sets. There are typically 3-4 2-discs a year, 2 of which are Platinum Editions. I think you are setting your hopes very high hoping for a 2-disc release of "The Black Cauldron," or even a re-releases anytime soon. I would love to see it, but it's not very likely. I would say that these are the only films without planned 2-disc sets that you could expect: "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Hercules," and "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh." Otherwise, expect single disc releases for anything not in the Platinum line or not "Lilo & Stitch." And I could be hoping for too much with my expectations of a 2-disc Pooh release. Also, I'm assuming that like Disney did with "Tarzan" and "The Emperor's New Groove," when "Atlantis" is finally re-released, it'll be a single disc release. Sad, but that's their current habbit. It's all very up in the air right now and nobody knows anything until Disney declares it, but I think you are expecting too much.

i think danfrandes's post is a lot of wishful thinking, which there is nothing wrong with that because if i had my way i'd produce a release schedule very close to what he listed.
we've been getting another classic the week after the october PE for the past 3 years. somtimes even 2. It was either Mulan or Mary Poppins that came a week after Aladdin in 2004, The Emperor's New Groove and Tarzan came out a week after Cinderella in 2005, and now Fox and the Hound is coming a week after TLM. that makes that trend a little less odd and even more predictable for next year.
I think the amounts of 2-disc editions are going to start dwindling, at least that's what it looks like. So i bet we'll see all the PE's being 2-disc and then the SE Lilo & Stitch in 2-disc, but i'm betting that mostly all other releases are going to be single disc. That's dissapointing because that means that documentaries/making of's, concept art, and design special features are going to have to make room for games and fluffy stuff because we all know that Disney movies are only for kids anymore.
I've gotta say, I'd be excited if they released a better version of Black cauldron as well. While I don't think the movie is really that great, I think I really love it because its such an underdog. I remember when they first released it on VHS in the late 90s, It brought back all the buzz that it wasn't about how good it was, but about the fact that it'd been sitting on the shelf for so long b/c of how violent, and unappealing it was to most.
We are lucky to at least have a gold collection release, but I think it really was a stand-out movie, and it deserves acknowledment. Disney almost always likes to pretend its the movie they never made. I'm sure if its mentioned, most of the execs have instant amnesia. "Black cauldron.....what "black cauldron" are you speaking of?" "Oh, thats right the one that killed our profits "

I really hope Hercules and Hunchback get re-releases soon. I think they could both make great 2-disc special editions. AND, next year is the 10th anniversary of Hercules. I would also like to see Oliver and Company get an update, but I think that would come in 2008 as a 20 year anniversary edition.

lol My sister and I used to put grapes in our mouths (to sound more authentic) while saying "Munchies and crunchies"!
Anyway, I've seen lots of people say Black Cauldren isn't worth a rerelease but I actually liked it. I ended up having a fasination for baubles. ^_^ Maybe I'm a freak or something. lol Looking back on it now, I don't think it was the best movie but it did entertained me. I wouldn't mind seeing it on Disney DVD.
I decided to post this here since there is so much talk about "The Black Cauldron" in this topid. But did any of you see the making of "The Little Mermaid" on the Platinum Edition? I was surprised at how much they referenced "The Black Cauldron." I personally felt like we got a bonus featurette about TBC with TLM. lol. I really enjoyed that. A lot of people are upset by the making of because it focused more on the history of the studio at the time and less on the making of the film itself, but I'm very into Disney history so I thought it was one of the best making of's produced for a Disney DVD.

I enjoyed the informative "making of" that was on the Little Mermaid Platinum, however, I really felt they should have included the old Disney Channel one on the DVD too. They really should have included those on all the releases that they had them for. It's really special to watch the "making of" docs for a film that were aired during the initial release. I also felt the "making of" on the DVD needed more. Only having the live-action model stuff as an Easter Egg was not right. It should have been in the making of. I remember when the movie came out, how they were always showing that footage and talking about it, and even interviews with Sherri Stoner and all. They also were constantly talking about how Alyssa Milano was an inspiration for Ariel, which I didn't catch even once on the new DVDs (hmm...). Not that I ever related Ariel to Alyssa Milano at all. I actually have heard multiple women named as the basis for Ariel. From Alyssa Milano to Glen Keane's own wife (when I heard him say that, boy, was I jealous).
WOW. Lots of ideas floating around. I hope every one of them is released, because I'm buying.
PS. My biggest hope: Song of the South.
