Yeah, they did a great job on that cover. I also wouldn't mind something like that for the final cover.

Oh, no, that was "For the first time on 2-disc Disney DVD". There´s a big difference, of course. :P

I can't wait for this! :) It's one of the only Disney films I never owned on VHS, so it'll be a treat to see this film again after so many years!

I'm hoping there'll be an audio commentary by the directors, storyboarded demos for scrapped songs, interviews with the voice actors, music videos, a full-length making-of documentary, a featurette on Alan Menken, interactive games, and at least the 1989 theatrical trailer.

And most importantly, we'll get animated menus, an anamorphic transfer, and dual Enhanced Home Theater and original Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. And all we need now is the specs and artwork... :D

Looks fake to me (especially about Ursulla taken from previous release) but we never know!
Don't be surprised if you see this as the final cover! Ursula's face is the same cover-art Ursula we all know, but she's much bigger than the previous release. Also It's the first time I see (the whole) Ariel swimming on a cover of a dvd or a vhs! Remember the previous releases? Either she was sitting on a rock in the surface, or she was playing with a flower lying on her favourite undersea rock, wile we could only see the half of her-where was the tail? So I think this cover art can't be fake, because, the concept at least, is brand-new. And that beautiful sea-colour behind her! Remember the Beauty and the Beast dvd release? It was the same with the old VHS' cover art. So everything is possible.

I wish there would be a trailer for The Little Mermaid 3 in the special 2-disc edition release!! Could it happen?

I actually agree with you on that! But didn't someone just said it's been confirmed as a fake cover? I would LOVE for it to be the cover. I got used to the bright colors too :D The undersea backdrop is gorgeous; crystal clear anfd the corals look awesome. This is something that always awed me about The Little Mermaid. How they managed to capture the beauty of the ocean so well, with those amazing colors and painstakingly detailed animation!

I can't wait for the platinum edition trailer either, it's gonna be so damn good!

Not something I'd like to see, but just looking at the previous Platinum covers, The Little Mermaid will look something like this:

Image

They will cram as much characters as they can in the front and something tells me that Ursula will look like the Genie in the Aladdin cover. Sidekicks go the side, Ariel in the middle, and erick somewehere in the cover.

I am also excited about this release, I'd like to see something along the lines of Toy Story 10th Ann:
-Highest Bit Rate ever used for a classic animated film
- First Ever DTS-ES soundtrack... and so on

Not a big extra features fan so I could care less about them.

I'm getting so excited for this release :D I hope Disney adds detail in some of the scenes. 'Cause in certain parts you can spot hurried or unfinished cels; yes, you'd have to watch the film a hundred times to notice it, and it's not that visible, but it's something I think they should correct with this grand release.

The scenes where I think it's most necessary:

Triton and Ariel's argument in the beginning. The background changes and sometimes lacks detail.

I know purists would kill me over this, but I think the part where Ariel sings on the rock could have been done much better.

When Triton confronts Ariel in her grotto and when Flotsam & Jetsam persuade her to go to Ursula (the destruction part is awesome, though).

That said, there are also parts I wish they would NOT touch:

Main titles scene
Eric's ship sinks
Ursula ruling the ocean - one of the finest moments in animation - artistically and direction-wise.

I am pretty sure the anamorphic transfer of The Little Mermaid will look great at the highest bit rate possible, just like Disney's other recent Platinum Editions (as long as Disney doesn't add an optional animated musical number like they did with TLK and BatB).

A DTS track for the movie would be nice, but with a musical like this, it doesn't warrant it. The 5.1 Enhanced Home Theater mix will like an alternate DTS track to the Dolby Digital 5.1 track included on the 1999 Limited Edition (will be almost surely ported over to the Platinum Edition).

I thought I was the ONLY one who was going to puke when I saw it! I wish they'd at leastuse that beautiful title logo from the theatrical poster and classic edition video! I AM SO EXCITED THOUGH! :D
Agreed on all counts, but I guess I'm used to terrible cover artwork on movies I love. I am a die-hard fan of Aladdin, and the ONLY covers they've ever pleasingly drawn him on are the original cover art from the soundtrack and the sketch of him and Jasmine on the Music Behinid the Magic boxed set.

I haven't seen them use the GORGEOUS Little Mermaid logo (that we actually SEE in the main title scene...) in forever, but I have it on my Little Mermaid bedsheets from 1989 and my original VHS and several other posters and products, so...eh, no matter how bad the cover art is, the people who will want to buy the movie almost all know how wonderful IT is, so whatever.

I have the Limited Issue title, and I will be keeping it, and STILL getting the PE. This is my favourite movie EVER that we're talking about! :) I desire TLM bonus features...but can't part with my LI edition, either. (I got that one as a free gift for preordering Snow White at the Disney Store back in the day...)

I don't understand why everybody considers it 'rare', I mean, 10 million people in America (and another 15 million internationally) bought this version in 1990. It may have gone out-of-print but those millions of people STILL have it. Including me. And yes, it's the best cover-art ever :D

That TLM cover looks so fake. But knowing Disney they will relate the 2 Disc DVD cover like TLM VHS version. I was thinking to myself it's way too early to have the real artwork of The Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid art cover might come out in December or January the latest. Who knows maybe Disney is planning The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea Special Edition later next year.
