I meant to post this after Scaps originally posted this response, but never got around to it:
Escapay wrote:DVD doesn't suck. It was the best home video format from 1997 to 2006 and even though Blu-Ray is technologically better, I'll stick with DVD until I actually have a Blu-Ray player and HDTV. Until then, I'm satisfied with standard definition.

I 100% agree with everything you just said. I'm not going to mention any names but there are always a few certain people who get so extreme and try to push either the Blu-Ray format or the DVD format and it really gets annoying! I do have an HDTV but I currently can't afford a Blu-Ray player, and while it may be a fact that Blu-Ray has its technological advantages, DVD is just as good. Just because the new format came along people feel the need to get so extreme and bash it? That makes no sense, considering 3 or 4 years ago Blu-Ray didn't exist and everyone was buying DVDs - which apparently "suck" now. Some people love it so much while others may not have the technology or money to upgrade and by default they side with DVD. Just because they have the money and technology to upgrade does not by any means give anyone permission to shove Blu-Ray down DVD supporters' throats. I mean, really? Is it honestly that big of a deal? Just because you're watching a movie in Hi-Def, will that completely change your perception and opinion of a movie that when you first watched it it was (more than likely) NOT in HD? No. It doesn't.

Now, can we please have a discussion about the MOVIE that is being released in October?

I just received an e-mail from DMR with an upgrade coupon for Snow White Diamond Edition:
Already own a copy on DVD or VHS? Save $10 when you upgrade to the Diamond Edition Combo pack!
I kind of wish Disney would hold-off on pushing Blu until this economic crisis is over. It's like torture not being able to afford this stuff now.

I'm pretty sure we're out of the recession...

Anyway that's why you get the 10 dollar coupon it'll be 15 dollars most places upon release, maybe less :o

I pre-ordered at Toys R Us, put 5 dollars down which goes towards the movie, and you get a 5 dollar gift card.

This is so another topic that I can rant about, but tell that to my brother-in-law who just got laid off (and who has a family to feed) and to me, who has been job-hunting with no luck for the past year and a half. :( Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of people who got laid off in even just the past year. :(

This is the strange part. We have more unemployed people than ever before, yet spending is still strong

Sorry for derailing the discussion...I read that home entertainment spending is still strong due to people still wanting to be entertained; it's cheaper to buy a DVD than to take your family to the movie theater, and it's definitely cheaper to buy a DVD than to go on a vacation. Although that's not the same thing, at least you're still being entertained. I made up that last part, but it makes sense in my mind. :D

We're the steelbooks on the shelf, or did you have to go up to customer service to get it? I went to my Best Buy the other day and I couldn't find it...

I also got an email about saving $10 on the blu-ray upgrade. What is the difference between the two packaging though? Is it just one package says DVD first and has the gray boarder and the other package says blu-ray first with the blue boarder? Is the DVD going to be the first disc like all the other Platinum Releases or the DVD pack will just have the movie and no bonus features on the DVD disc? I hope I am making sense here lol.

I'm confused too as much as this board has explained it lol, i believe their both blu-ray with just disc 1 of the DVD, but the difference is that the packaging, i believe one is a DVD case nd the other is a Blu-ray case, i believe Best Buys' website shows the difference, its just the packaging, both have the same stuff on it HTH, i'll try to help more if i can... :)

Yeah the coupon I think is for the gray blu-ray version. That's why I wanted to know the difference. I looked on amazon and I really didn't see a difference just the DVD was named first not the Blu-ray. I am hoping that is all lol. I was gonna get the book but I rather just get this copy instead because I am not a big fan of Snow White.

Thanks! I hope someone reminds us on Oct. 6 to enter the sweepstakes! (I just wrote it in my planner.) Did you find it just on the DMR site?
Coolmanio wrote:Grand prize and 1st place are nice. The other two.... not so much.
I'd probably prefer the 3rd place prize. :D I'd sell the bracelet if I won it; no doubt it's nice, but I hardly wear bracelets, and I could make some needed money!

At my Best Buy, the steelbooks are in the Disney DVD section...
Matt wrote:Not for the DVD coming out in Nov, though correct? lol
Disney's latest releases have had 2 coupons: Save $10 on the Blu-ray or Save $5 on the DVD. So, maybe there will be a $5 off the DVD coupon when the DVD comes out.
