Starter For 10
What an absolutely brilliant film. I wasn't expecting too much from this, but I bought it anyway because I like James McAvoy. But this is one of the best films I have seen in the past year or so. It's witty, dramatic, nostalgic... but most of all, it's real. Real characters with real emotions. Anyone who loves romantic comedies will love this, and it has none of the rom-com cliches either.

Everyone's Hero-It was pretty good. I would reccomend it but it's a movie I'd only watch once or twice.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) - I've been a huge fan of this movie since I was a kid. Saw it before the first film. Finally sat down to watch it on DVD for the first time with no audio commentary (I've heard that commentary 3 times! It's a classic!!) to experience the film in the 5.1, finally hearing all the sound. And what can I say? If you haven't seen it yet, you are seriously missing out. It's pure chaos and big-budget monster-movie fun. A+

Yes. I have. It was very positive and upbeat. And I don't think your average Christian would find it offensive. Just the rabid, psycho ones that don't even like movies. It's a very hopeful movie with a great message about acceptance. In the end, even the Christians have to admit this is a good movie for people to see. I thought the "guysramalot . com" bit was a wee bit extreme for a feel-good movie, but... It was unexpectedly lol. It felt like the kind of cheap gag that surprisingly acts as a double-edged sword, saying two things at once. Much like life.

Mandy Moore is amazing in this movie. She proves that she really has a grasp on the concept of subtlety and this movie proves that she's really more of a movie starlet than a pop star. She was meant for bigger, better things. It's just refreshing to see someone like that, someone you'd never suspect, go for such a slightly edgy role in an independant movie. Gives her immediate and eternal credibility- as far as I'm concerned.

She does a song for the movie, I think it's called "God Only Knows" and I love it. I tried to download, only to find out - it's never been released on CD, ever. It's not on any of Mandy's CDs nor is it on the Saved! soundtrack. That stinks.

Of course though, if the movie belongs to anyone, it's the actress playing Cassandra. I can't remember her name- but she was just a force of nature. Wild, clever, funny, and punk. Which is great, since right before Saved! came out, she was this spoiled teenage daughter in The Banger Sisters or whatever.

I admire the film's strength and courage - to be blissfully restrained in an age of extreme fanaticism. Less is more really works for this movie.

Alaska

It's a good movie about survival in the remote area. I found Cubbie the polar bear really cute.

Dario Argento's Inferno (1979) - so confusing. So very, very confusing. But still stylish. Very, very stylish. B-

Ghost Rider-Some kid brought in a bootleg copy to school yesterday (Which I think is wrong). It was the stupidest comic book movie.

Big Nothing

Well, what do you know, another film with Alice Eve (who is also in Starter for 10). Who is she? Where did she come from? I've never heard of her before!

As for this, its supposed to be a comedy. I'm not sure that it is. I do have a very dark sense of humour, but I didn't find anything in this funny "ha ha", maybe bits of it were funny strange. It's basically a caper, with lots of double crosses. Lots. Improbably lots, which is I suppose where the humor comes in.

What is funny is Simon Pegg's American accent. It's most probably very good, but it just seems wrong coming from Pegg.

That said, it is a good film which will keep you guessing what will happen next.

Well, I'm almost finished with "The Two Towers" and I have still yet to figure out where the second tower is located. I mean it could be anywhere, in the forest place with the talking trees, or that place that starts with a G, like Gordrahy or something, or the place with the Elves. Hmm, it is so complicated.

Pirates of the Caribbean the Curse of the Black Pearl B

This was my first time watching this movie in its entirety and I thought it was pretty good. I plan on getting the second film eventually and seeing the third film in theatres.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

It was on TBS tonight and I watched it. It was good. Elijah Wood did a good job playing Frodo. I need to read the books.

Stranger Than Fiction

Wow. What an excellent movie. I was enthralled throughout. Until the end, where I thought that they were going to have a cop-out ending. And it did look that way for so long. But in the end, the ending was just beautiful - it fitted the film so much. The monologue at the end did make my eyes water somewhat. And, yes, this film does prove that Will Farrell can act.

I would give this film 10/10

The Thin Man

This is just wonderful verbal slapstick. I must admit, I was watching this in bed, when I was very tired, and I didn't quite pick up on all the details of the plot (which is quite dense and complicated - a sort of comedy film noir). I also think, some of the issues addressed in the plot would make this a very daring film for the 1930's too. But all of this pales into insignificance when Nick and Nora are on the screen. Their dialogue is just perfect. I wish people these days could write and act such scripts. And the "Dinner Party" denoucement is pure cinematic magic (I'm sure its this which has influcenced similar scenes in later films). Also, not a film to watch if you're a reformed alcoholic! I look forward to watching the other films in the Thin Man series.

The dark crystal
Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone

Netty I love the Thin man movies. They're just so well made and the dialogue is some of the best ever written. Amazingly witty and simply fun to watch.

Re-watched the 1971 Spanish zombie-horror film, Tombs of the Blind Dead (the Night of the Living Dead of Spain). One of the most beloved and respected European horror films ever made. This viewing matches the first, in that I'm still as conflicted about it as I was the first time. The first time, I was hugely bothered by it's sleazy elements but I was also in utter awe of it's story structure and pacing. This time, the sleazy stuff wasn't as bad as it was the first time. It almost even seemed to make sense. But... now the rest of the film didn't strike me as half as impressive as it did the 1st time. It looks good but it doesn't sail as well. B- , either way.
