While I admit I'm looking forward to seeing just how TLM can be adapted for stage (and to hear the new songs that have been written for it) I will admit that I'd much rather see HoND be brought to broadway instead. A friend in Germany has told me that it is truly spectacular.

This has really put a fire under me to get to New York and see it before July. I've wanted to see it on Broadway for years.

Oh dear, this might be one of the only times Escapay and I ever disagree. :P Although I feel your pain about "Beauty and the Beast" being replaced by "The Little Mermaid", I'm so glad they didn't pick Hunchback. People who've been here a while should know I hate that film to pieces, maybe even(no, I'll even say "even") more than TLM. I'll leave it at that.

Personally, if I were picking the next one, I'd pick either Aladdin or The Nightmare Before Christmas. Both are much better movies than Hunchback and Mermaid combined, and also have much better music and if done right, can even have visually beautiful sets/costumes/make-up etc. more so than either Mermaid or Hunchback could have.

I'm incredibly excited about The Little Mermaid coming to Broadway, but Beauty and the Beast was probably my favorite show out of all of the musicals I've seen.

I believe I'm going to see Tarzan soon, so I'm pretty excited about that. I'm seeing The Lion King on February 28th, and I'd love to go see Mary Poppins.

I love living in New York. :)

I think Hunchback would have been easier to pull off then The Little Mermaid and mite of looked better, but I like The Little Mermaid more the The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. So Im glad that one is going on next.

Anyways what a bummer!! I never got to see the Beauty and the Beast broadway show....is it on video anywhere? Is that even legal? *sigh* at least The Lion King, Tarzan and Mary Poppins are still on...which I'll probably never see anyways! ugh time to save travel money.

As for Aladdin I saw the stage play at Disney California and that one was amazing!!

Aaah... sad.

I saw Beauty and the Beast last year here in the Netherlands. After a national tour it played from August 2006 until last week in Scheveningen (close to The Hague). The show moves to Belgium now.

It was a fantastic show and very different from the Broadway version (we had other costumes, other stage sets, a female narrator, and our Belle was blonde). I have good memories to that evening. It was such a magical evening. :D

A month later I went to see The Lion King in Scheveningen (with ended just before BATB moved to that theatre in August 2006). The Lion King was great too.

And in April we have the European premiere of Tarzan here in the Netherlands. Again in Scheveningen. So I'm looking forward to see that one too. I hope Mary Poppins flies some day to the Netherlands too.

Not to mention the horrific translation, the gay undertone in Be Our Guest and the fact that Chantal (Belle) is very much hated by yours truly.

She's going to play Jane in Tarzan now, and she'll remain blonde <_<
The whole idea about Belle was that she wasn't a bimbo, and Chantal Janzen is the biggest bimbo I've ever seen.
Her understudy was much, much better.

Actually, she had a blonde wig. In some early commercials she had a brown coloured wig, bit it just didn't work for some reason. I think Chantal Janzen did a good job. But I think I would prefer her alternate Céline Purcell (when Chantal Janzen was hosting Idols, the Dutch version of American Idol, she played Belle). Céline has brown hair, so her Belle-wig was brown.

But Beauty and the Beast was the first musical I ever saw, so I was happy to see the first cast (except for Ben Cramer in the role of Maurice, he had a motor accident just days for the opening night). With Tarzan I hope to see more understudy's because others say they are much better.

I really don't care about seeing Tarzan. If they ever bring Hunchback to theaters in Holland (without Chantal, popsingers or Idols-contestants), I'll be more than willing to see it. Musicals have gone downhill a lot (in Holland, that is)...
Maybe we should talk about this on Disneyinfo, I don't think UD'ers care too much about the state of musicals in the Netherlands

I saw the touring version of this show when it came to San Antonio, and it was simply fantastic. Sad to see it go. I wonder, are there DVDs available of this show? I also wonder if Disney Broadway shows like this will ever be revived like many classics have been. The only other "Broadway" show I have seen is "The Music Man," also when it came to San Antonio. We had terrible seats for it, but it was great after we moved for the second half (since no one came to sit in this one row in the middle). I also saw the Queen musical, "We Will Rock You," when it was in London.

I'm really hoping I get to see the Little Mermaid musical somehow. I am soooo into Ariel. I LOVE the Disney MGM Studios show (Voyage of the Little Mermaid), and I hope that one never closes! Tarzan would be cool to see too, and Hunchback is soooo Broadway worthy! I mean, just going by the film. I also think Hercules would be great, and, of course, Aladdin.

I will probably get killed for this, but. I am glad BATB is closing. I am a huge Disney fan but I am an equally huge Broadway fan, and if Disney is going to open another show, I am glad it is closing one that has had a long, healthy run. There are only so many Broadway theatres and it is unhealthy for Broadway for so many to be occupied by Disney shows.

While I am of the opinon that Disney, much like Wicked, Chitty, etc, has introduced kids to Theatre who may not have otherwise been interested, there needs to be diversity there, esp. when Disney shows have a habit of running for decades. So Bon Voyage, Beauty, you have done well.

I've never seen Beauty and the Beast, but I have performed in a few shows of it. When I was in 6th grade and I did it, I was Chip. Two summers ago, I did it again and I was Lumiere. Easily the funnest part I have ever played. I hope I can see it before it closes.

On the Beauty & the Beast DVD Eisner says the Broadway show just had a few new songs added. I know A Change In Me (which you can get on a Susan EGan CD and it fits in with her other songs from the cast album if you want to get it for your own play lists) but what other songs have been added after the show debuted?

Thanks.

It is quite sad, but I'm glad to have seen it last summer and lucky to have been there in NYC. I personally thought it was fantastic and felt like crying at the end.

I guess that their making room for Mermaid so that it has less competition..heheh
And, despite what haters say, I have confidence it's gonna be extremely succesful and perhaps even more so than any Disney musical. After all, Ariel is the most popular princess in the US and probably many other places; she is no doubt an extremely appealing character. And Little Mermaid's songs are quite suitable to make a fun, entertaining musical.

I'll probably get flack for this but I never cared for when they used a black actress as Belle. Because the story tales place in 1700's France it feels too much like they're being politically correct. I'm not saying I"m offended but it removes my suspension of disbelief in the story. And I hate the double standard. We all know full well that if you cast a white person as a traditionallly black character in a story that takes place in Africa or a black community there would be droves of rqacial groups making noise and calling it racist. I say just do what helps the story.

I heard about the touring UK version. It uses the disney script and music from the broadway version - and so is technically is "disney's" beauty and the beast, but it is produced by a different company - UK Productions. I was going to see it myself, but after seeing the official disney touring version in Manchester back in '02, I don't want to be disappointed.
