Five minutes of Epic Mickey 2 gameplay:

Screenshots of the game (including one revealing that the Prosecutor from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad will appear in the background for one of the side-scrolling levels):

So...what's the storyline? The Blotlings will still be in the game even though the Phantom Blot was destroyed at the end of the last game, and it's obvious that the Mad Doctor will have a prominent role (there's a cutscene shown on an interview with Warren Spector that shows him starting to sing) and will perhaps be the man villain. Will the Blot come back? Maybe that's why the Blotlings have returned, but they are possibly just the survivors from the first game recruited by the Mad Doctor.
I personally hope that the Blot isn't the main villain and that the Doctor continues to only be a secondary villain (he is too comical to be the main antagonist). I wonder if Spector will introduce a new character as the game's villain...

Storyline is that in the midst of earthquakes rocking the Wasteland, the Mad Doctor is claiming he's changed his ways and offers the help of the Beetleworx to help clean things up. Oswald's willing to trust him, but the others don't buy it and send for Mickey Mouse's help. So Oswald and Mickey must try fixing up the damage to Wasteland, find what's causing the quakes, and figure out the Doctor's true intentions.
Also from the press conference this morning, Gremlins are playing a larger role and Gremlin Gus himself is being voiced by Cary Elwes.

Got some details on the 3DS counterpart, Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion. It will also serve as a sequel to the Castle of Illusion series from Sega.

Users at NeoGaf with the issue have also confirmed appearances by Scrooge McDuck, Minnie, Oswald, Peter Pan, Beast, and Captain Hook with the main villain being the Witch from Snow White.2010's Epic Mickey was an action-adventure/platforming game that made enough of an impression on the Wii to warrant not one, but two sequels: Disney Epic Mickey: The Power of Two for the Wii, and Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, which is coming to the Nintendo 3DS.
The April 2012 issue of Nintendo Power has detailed previews for both games, so if you're a fan of the Mickster, you'll want to pick it up. Here's a summary of what's coming to the Nintendo 3DS. It's intriguing stuff!
Power of Illusion is being put together by DreamRift, the studio behind 2011's Monster Tale for the Nintendo DS. The game, which is its own side-scrolling, platforming title (instead of a mere port of The Power of Two), is a follow-up to Epic Mickey, but more interestingly, it's also a follow-up to Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, a 1990 game for the Sega Genesis!
Power of Illusion will make heavy use of the Nintendo 3DS's stylus. By tapping the item icons exist in every level, you'll be able to "paint" (trace) those items into existence, including cliffs, cannons, and floating platforms. The more precisely you trace, the better for Mickey. A flawlessly-painted canon will only damage Mickey's enemies, for instance, but if you mess up the painting, the canon will be a danger to everyone in the area.
Sometimes you'll need to erase objects, which is done by spreading thinner. Again, the stylus comes into play here.
The hand-drawn sprites in Power of Illusion are extremely compelling, and, thanks to scrolling parallax backgrounds (a heavily-used graphic technique in the days of 16-bit gaming), reportedly look great in sterescopic 3D. Even better, every level in the game is based on an animated Disney adventure, from "Sleeping Beauty" to "Tangled" and lots in between.
As a final declaration of oldschool love, every character that Mickey saves in Power of Illusion will take up residence in the fortress that Mickey uses as his home base, a confirmed nod to the esteemed Suikoden RPG series. Sometimes you find references in the unlikeliest of places, but that's part of what makes video games fun. Right?
There's no release date set for Power of Illusion (Fall 2012 is a general target), but expect lots more information on this game as the weeks march on like Mouseketeers.

It's now confirmed that the release date for both Epic Mickey 2 games (The Power of Two and The Power of Illusion) is November 18th... which is the same date as Mickey's birthday. Heh, I see what you did there, Mr. Spector.
Also, a rather encouraging article about Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit, courtesy of Time Techland:
Also, a rather encouraging article about Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit, courtesy of Time Techland:
You can read the entire article right here.Disney is handing out Oswald-ear hats customized with attendees’ names, like Mickey Mouse ears only pointy; when I stopped by, the E Ticket-sized line to get them snaked far out of the Disney booth, the longest queue I saw at any E3 attraction. And enormous images of Oswald and Mickey buddying up in their Epic Mickey 2 adventures festoon the Disney Interactive booth and the corridor connecting the LA convention center’s south and west halls. It’s enough to make Mario himself jealous–and to make a Disney buff like me smile.
I never would have predicted that Disney would ever own Oswald again, let alone draft him for a major video game and spotlight him at E3. But he’s actually extremely well-suited to become a video-game protagonist. He’s energetic, cheerful and a bit cocky. And since he started in the silent-movie era, he’s a rabbit of action who doesn’t need to talk to get his point across. Warren Spector, head honcho of the Epic Mickey franchise, clearly gets that: Disney doesn’t seem to be rebooting Oswald so much as restoring him to his 1920s glory.
There’s only one word to describe his unexpected comeback: It’s…epic.

I love Oswald. He's more interesting and likable than Mickey as a character; Mickey became too safe, too bland, too smart. Because Oswald never developed beyond the early days of Disney when they didn't have such a family-friendly image, he can retain his original sort of...roguishness. I'm glad Disney may revive both Oswald and Mickey as heroes beyond the video game world; I love Epic Mickey, but I'd love a new series of short cartoons even more.

I just found this video which is just a sneak peek. For the first time, you'llhear the voices of Oswald and Ortensia. Ortensia's voice is sooooooo cute. Warning Spoiler Alert. If you like to hear Ortensia's voice, scroll to 11:25.

I don't find Mickey's new voice annoying, I think Bret Iwan is doing a good job playing the voice of Mickey Mouse.Dr Frankenollie wrote:Part of me wants Epic Mickey 2 to have no voice acting like the first game; Mickey's voice gets very annoying very quickly, and judging by the Mad Doctor's "Help Me, Help You" song, it will be a mediocre musical (at best). Nonetheless, I do like Gus and Ortensia's voices.

Not necessarily about Epic Mickey 2, but it does talk about Oswald and how this year marks his 85th Anniversary!

Bret's okay, but he just can't act with his Mickey voice. That's why Wayne was so damn good, he could do the voice and did a damn good job emoting too.TsWade2 wrote:I don't find Mickey's new voice annoying, I think Bret Iwan is doing a good job playing the voice of Mickey Mouse.Dr Frankenollie wrote:Part of me wants Epic Mickey 2 to have no voice acting like the first game; Mickey's voice gets very annoying very quickly, and judging by the Mad Doctor's "Help Me, Help You" song, it will be a mediocre musical (at best).
