The link has been removed. Only those who troll those types of sites regularly were treated to the "sneak" peek at "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

Now you have to wait until May 1st, or find a friend who has it downloaded and watch it that way.

I'll be trying to go this weekend. If not, then next weekend, when I'm at the ASW conference.

Eh, I dunno if I'm gonna go. Only one person I know is seeing it, and she's going this weekend at home, plus swine flu... eh.

And not that I really listen to reviews, but they're all pretty middling to bad, and from the spoilers I know, there's a lot of things I'm not too too wild about. I may just wait until it comes out on DVD.

Depends... which ending did you see? There were different endings for different theatres.

LOL, the forum has a blue background... I have a hunch it'll still be readable :P

I'm probably gonna see it this weekend as well. And when I get home from school I'll check how long the leaked version is - wouldn't that be funny if it was the full length one and had scenes not in theaters?

Yeah, no, that's usually what we do for spoilers, and it, uh, tends to work...

Anyhow, the different anding thing is also irking me. I think I'm going to see what my friend says this weekend. I generally trust her opinion.

As I said in the "What movie did you last see" thread:
I wrote:Now, I'm a huge X-Men fan. Grew up on the 90's animated series and I also read the comics so I'm pretty familiar with the source material, so the tiniest differences from them make me cringe. There were a few differences in the film, but none as horrible as the abomination that was X3.

Overall, I thought it was a fun little film. Was it amazing? No, not really. But it is what it is, a fun summer blockbuster that lets us jump back into the world of our favorite mutants.

Just saw the midnight showing of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and some of you need to climb down of your "I dunno if I want to see this" horse.

First it was not edited down to 97 minutes as some people have said. It runs almost two hours in length. Yes, there is the great "tie-in" scene at the end of the movie after the credits that answers a lot of questions.

As for the different endings for different theaters, that is all a hoax put upon us by the fine folks at Fox. Since the purported "leaking" of the almost finished product several weeks ago (which by the way, if you have a copy, has the three alternate endings included) Fox has said that to make sure that the box office is there they will tack on different endings for different areas of the country. I have talked with officials at Twentieth Century Fox Motion Piotures who assured me that everyone will see the same ending and 'tag' in the United States. When the DVD is released it will have all three of the alternate endings included.

Now to the movie itself - I am at a loss for words about how disappointed I am that they didn't really show the "origins" of Wolverine. Instead we get an extended look at his life growing up, after a very confusing prologue, and how his half-brother Creed, later to become Sabretooth, is hunting him down for some unexplained reason. We never are told how he came into such super powers and why he is immortal, and impervious to bullets, explosions, and the like.

Capt. Stryker is never a fully developed character, and neither are the young students who become the first mutants. Even the presence, in a cameo appearance, of Patrick Stewart as Xavier is not fully explained or developed.

I felt like this movie was rushed, and they were afraid to take time to develop any of the story, or under-stories, involving any of the other characters, even though they almost totally ignored the Wolverine back story in its entirety.

There are two very nice scenes that are in the trailer for the movie, that have been edited out of the movie, for no explained reason.

The special effects are very good, they are typical of the X-Men movies, and are loud and constant throughout the movie. Even some of the tender scenes between Logan and his girlfriend seemed to be rushed because something was about to happen.

As a movie in itself, I will say that it is a 2 out of 5 stars. As a prequel to the X-Men movies, in my own opinion, this movie missed the mark by a mile.

This is a great popcorn movie. One of those that you check your brain at the door before entering, and then let it entertain you. It is definitely not boring, but it is not the movie that I was expecting after all of the ballyhoo for the past couple of years.

Scene stealers in the movie are Gambit, and Deadpool.

If you are expecting to see a movie in the same class as the first two X-Men movies, you will be very disappointed. Even if you are a fan of the comic books and the characters therein. They are not done justice with this film.

With the bar set very high with "Iron Man", "The Dark Knight" and "Watchmen", this movie, in my opinion, fails miserably. I would advise you to just wait for the DVD release or even just avoid this mess altogether.

:D

Just watched this today, it's good but I had the preconception that this was gonna turn out to be like X Men 3, so maybe that's why I liked it.

I hope they come up with more X Men origins, I think Mystique is by far the most interesting X-Men character, she should get a spin-off.

That is no hoax. I've spoken to my friends that have also seen the movie and there are two different endings after the credits. The clips of the different scenes are even up on YouTube. As for that "Fox Official" well... you were lied to.

Really? Did you miss the part that he's a mutant? Did you forget he was a mutant in X1 alongside Magneto's Brotherhood? Or are you just not very familiar with X-Men?
dvdjunkie wrote:Capt. Stryker is never a fully developed character, and neither are the young students who become the first mutants. Even the presence, in a cameo appearance, of Patrick Stewart as Xavier is not fully explained or developed.
Because the story wasn't about them, it was about Wolverine. Those were just fun little cameos for the fans.

I wouldn't really say it was "rushed". They've been working on it since X3's release in '06. They just didn't do as good a job as they could have done.
dvdjunkie wrote:There are two very nice scenes that are in the trailer for the movie, that have been edited out of the movie, for no explained reason.
That happens in movies all the time.

They were alright. Did you see the CG for Logan's claws in the bathroom scene? Yeah... not the best.

Agreed.

I'm a fan of the comic books, a pretty big one actually. I wouldn't say it "failed miserably"; it certainly wasn't trying to live up to the standards of Iron Man or The Dark Knight. They were just different movies. Like you said yourself, just a fun movie.

Overall, I thought it was ok. By far wasn't the best comic book movie we've seen in recent years, but not completely horrible as the likes of Ghost Rider or Catwoman.

Should you rush out and see this movie? Nah, not really. But go see it if you're looking for something to do for a couple of hours.

I just got back from the film, and thought it was good! Wolverine was never my favorite character, and still remains near the bottom of the list for this film, but I absolutely LOVED all the cameos of characters.

Are movies for each of the primary characters planned for this "Origins" series?

Every theater is showing the two endings that are on YouTube. You are truly mistaken. Nothing was changed in the way the film ends, and the credits roll and there is another scene involving Capt. Stryker, then the credits roll again and of course the obligatory scene after the end credits have rolled.

Don't know where you got your information, but everyone is seeing the same endings to the movie, and when you watch the DVD when it comes out you will see the three different endings.

Actually, xxhphlinxx is right. Theaters have been given two different reels, each with a different post-credits scene. One of these involves Wolverine at a bar in Japan, setting up a possible sequel about his experiences there, and the other one features Deadpool climbing out of the rubble and grabbing his head, setting up a possible spin-off film. Did the screening you see show both of these back to back or something (which I admit could actually work for the DVD and BD)?

As for the film itself, I liked it but didn't love it. It felt rushed not in terms of production value (except for that horrible CG claw effect in the old couple's bathroom) but in terms of story. It felt like the barebones version of something grander and more intricate. I'm not sure if this film suffered a Daredevil-style fate where the studio execs felt the original version was too dark and long and butchered it for a shorter running time. Something tells me no because looking back at the trailers, I only noticed three brief bits not in the film: Storm as a child (which has already been pointed out), Wolverine holding Kayla's body by the beach, and a monologue by Striker about Wolverine's past (which may have been just recorded for the trailer). So either a lot of editing was done in the scripting phase, or the story has always been this light. People have complained that the other X-Men movies had too many characters to juggle, but I felt each character there was at least given some sort of arc. Most of the characters here seem to exist either as fanboy service or to show off effects. Having recently become a fan of Deadpool, I won't even go into how he was utilized in this (though his elevator scene was perfect).

Is it entertaining? Definitely. I enjoyed it despite its problems. Is it memorable? To be honest, not really. It's not that I had insanely high expectations for this. Heck, I'm one of the few people out there who really likes The Last Stand, better than the first X-Men, even. It just doesn't have the substance of the original trilogy. An extra 20 minutes could've really helped it out. Let's see if there was extensive footage cut out that somehow didn't make it into the trailers.

So as of now, it's a decent start to the summer, but not as great a kick-off as last year's Iron Man or 2007's Spider-Man 3. I'm expecting to be more wowed by Star Trek, Up, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I think there are 3 different endings. The 2 mentioned in the spoilers above and one more.

Anyway I haven't seen it yet, and I really haven't heard many positive reviews from it. The biggest complaint I'm hearing is how some of the characters were done in the film, especially Deadpool.
