I like the way the characters are placed in the new cover art but I LOVED the cover in blue in the old one. :(

The new covers are a lot better. I like the single disc cover better though.

Aww, I would've expected a lengthier clip. But then again, most of the time composers are overlooked on these kind of releases, so I'm glad we're at least getting this much. I just hope that they'll spend a bit on the development of various themes (e.g. the Love Theme) as well as the suite format which Zimmer originally planned, and stuff like that, but we'll see. :D

Not that the status of the commentary matters, because given the track record, it won't show up on the European BD release. Which if bloody ridiculous when you think about it, and how much the BDA boast about their 50GB discs and how superior they are over HD DVD.

And of course, the US release is likely to be region locked, unlike the recent Pirates catalog releases.

Blu Ray. Isn't it great?

Sorry about the European releases. But The US BD release is not region locked, at least according to available product details on Amazon.

World's End is likely to be being as its a "day and date" title (based on everything Disney has said about region encoding). I know I don't trust the Amazon listing!

The Little Merman wrote:I'll probably just pick up the 1-disc like I did with DMC. I mean the Pirates films are very entertaining, but not exactly the type where I'm thinking "I need to pay more for those special features." A commentary's just fine. :)
I agree. I've played around a little bit on the POTC:CotBP 2-disc set, but I probably haven't watched everything on it. The reason I got the 1-disc DMC is because it was significantly cheaper than the 2-disc set, but I don't mind not having the other bonus features- I like the movies, but they're not my favorites. So, if I buy the DVD myself, with my own money, I'll probably get the 1-disc set, but if Santa brings me it for Christmas, then I wouldn't mind the 2-disc set...
PeterPanfan wrote:I still haven't bought the first two. I'm buying them soon, though, and will probably wait untill the price goes down for At World's End. I like them but it's not worth $30
Those are just the suggested retail prices (SRP)- stores rarely, if ever, sell movies for that much (Well, maybe FYE does...). For example, the "Peter Pan" Platinum Edition press release says: "Suggested retail price: U.S. $29.99 (2-disc DVD). Canada $36.99 (2-disc DVD)". I'm assuming that no one here paid $29.99 or $36.99 for "Peter Pan". I'm not sure why the SRP is so high on things, but stores just don't sell things at that price (usually).

The new covers look great. I actually liked the previous blue one, you would have had three different covers with different color schemes. But this looks good too. I'm getting the 2-disc (am I really the only one who actually and genuinely liked this movie, and thought it was the best of the three?).

Well it looks like Best Buy is going to get a 45 minute bonus disc based on the BBFC.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3 - AT WORLD'S END - ON PACK BONUS
00:04:11:14 FROM WAX TO WILL - ORLANDO & MADAME TUSSAUDS
00:10:31:21 (RUMMY 3: BEST BUY DISC - THE RETURN OF THE DUTCHMAN)
00:08:22:24 (RUMMY 3: BEST BUY DISC - PIRATES OF THE SALT FLATS)
00:06:43:20 (RUMMY 3: BEST BUY DISC - ACTING BELOW THE SURFACE)
00:08:11:10 (RUMMY 3: BEST BUY DISC - DESTROYING THE ENDEAVOR)
00:06:56:01 WORLD'S END - WORLD PREMIERE

Lord alone knows where this disc will be appearing in the UK, being as we have no Best Buy stores, or any other retailer affiliated with them. :?

If the first two Pirate films are anything to go by, those Best-Buy features should appear on disc two of the Blu-Ray disc. Whether it will or not remains to be seen, though.

Just got the Pirates 3 UK BD. Its only listed as region 'B' so I guess it is region locked being a Day-Date release. This means anyone looking to import the US BD is likely to be disappointed as it will be region 'A' only.

Sadly I can confirm that underneath the slipcover the Blu-ray "swoosh" is missing from the cover art. I say sadly, because I think I was one of 4 people who liked the "swoosh".

Also in a surprise move, the box lists the commentary. Still it does for Chicken Little Blu-ray over here and that's missing so I guess its still 50/50 if its on the UK set or not.

UPDATE The UK release has NO COMMENTARY and I can't even import the US disc to get it being as its most likely region A. This is beyond a f**king joke.

OK - I've calmed down a little now. Thank God Entertainment In Video have done Hairspray BD right, or I may of had a heart attack, such was my anger.

... think pleasant thoughts Netty, pleasant thoughts ...

I may have jumped in logic a little when I said the box lists a commentary - it actually says "Enter the Maelstrom with commentary by Jerry Bruckhelmer". Enter the Maelstrom is of course a bonus feature on the second Blu-ray disc. (But its not really commentary from what little I have seen of it, its more like JB hosts the interactive feature).

The first disc has the following on:
A Disney Blu-ray promotion (showing effectively every Disney movie ever made!). Oddly, you can't pause this, but perhaps that's because although not actually lying - the caption says "on DVD and Blu-ray Disc" - Disney are certainly over-promising their commitment to Blu-ray at this point. I guess they don't want you to study the facts for too long! A final screen with the before mentioned caption lists perhaps over 100 films for about 2 seconds - including Winnie the Pooh and The Jungle Book, which are at this point are not only undetermined for Blu-ray at this time but likely years off release).

Cinema Trailer: National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets

On Blu-Ray Now Trailer: Pirates 1 and 2 [available seperately]

Bloopers of the Caribbean

No Commentary

There is no pop-up menu as such - now the menu covers the whole screen with the image shrunk to 1/8 or so size and displayed in the top right corner.

The second disc is sort of disappointing. It is all in 1080p as far as I can see from a quick click around, but the contents aren't all that. The bulk are 4-10 minute featurettes - see the BBFC timings for more details. The Best Buy featurettes passed by the BBFC are not included. All in all if you follow the BBFC listings and the press release, this disc has no surprises on it. It also doesn't seem to have anything as indepth as the previous Blu-ray releases.

The Enter the Maelstrom (which reportedly runs over 1 hour) looks confusing to operate from my brief look-see. Still, it looks like it will be informative, covering pre-production, production and post-production on the sequence.

But then, the second longest feature on the disc is "Anatomy Of A Scene: The Maelstrom" lasting 20 odd minutes, which sort of makes one or the other somewhat redundant. I know I'd rather have some theatrical trailers than the AoaS feature being as the intractive "Enter the Maelstrom" should in theory cover most of the information.

Yes, you've read right. There's no trailers on the discs.

I guess given the confusing press release for the US BD, there's still a question if the US release will have a feature commentary.
