Yeah, I don't quite understand the appeal for "A Christmas Story", either. The kid desperately wants a toy rifle for Christmas, and I find that possibly worse than video games. Okay, maybe the time period of the film is way different than today, but still...

Not to mention, I find the cover art (both VHS and the DVD versions) rather creepy with that kid's closeup.

What I deem must-watch holiday fare includes.... <i>The Muppet Christmas Carol</i>, <i>Home Alone</i>, <i>Elf</i>, <i>A Christmas Story</i>, <i>The Santa Clause</i> (sequel optional), <i>Mickey's Christmas Carol</i>, <i>ALF's Special Christmas</i>, the three Rankin/Bass specials in the box set, <i>One Magic Christmas</i>, a slew of Christmas episodes of favorite shows, <i>A Muppet Family Christmas</i> and, on Christmas Eve night, <i>Scrooged</i> and <i>A Charlie Brown Christmas</i>. Actually, a few of those didn't get spun last year and this year I'm so swamped with reviews I probably won't get to many of them.

So far this year, I've watched <i>The Santa Clause</i> (back in early November, for my review, <i>The Santa Clause 3</i> (for the front page mini-review), the wonder that is <i>Sights and Sounds of Christmas</i>, and last night, <i>Muppet Family Christmas</i>. Also watched a few Christmas episodes recently, though they were either for reviews or just because, not for seasonal viewing.

My list of "Would Like to Catch" is growing; in fact it seems like I've both added new things to this and demoted things from "Must Watch."

Christmas TV Show/Movie Traditions

Do you guys watch certain Christmas episodes of TV Shows/Movies on DVD or TV? I have a Christmas marathon with all of my TV-on-DVD shows. More get added on every year, because I get more TV shows on DVD. This year, I have ALOT! I spread the watching of Christmas epsiodes of my TV-On-DVD titles throughout the month of December, because I have 14 Christmas episodes! Here's the list so far:

The Golden Girls: 'Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas (Season 2)
The Golden Girls: Have Yourself a Very Little Christmas (Season 5)
ALF: Oh, Tannerbaum (Season 1)
JKX: The Jamie Kennedy Experiment: 12/5/02: Lecherous Santa/Homeless for the Holidays/Simply Jeff Goldblum (Season 2)
Viva La Bam: Very Merry Margera Christmas (Season 1)
Reba: Cookies for Santa (Season 2)
Roseanne: No Place Like Home for the Holidays (Season 5)
Family Guy: A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas (Vol. 2, a.k.a. Season 3)
Popular: Fall On Your Knees (Season 1: I know season 2 has one, but it's a depressing one)
Grounded for Life: I Saw Daddy Hitting Santa Claus (Season 2)
Friends: The One With Phoebe's Dad (Season 2)
Friends: The One Where Rachel Quits (Season 3) (*I only have seasons 1-4 so far*)

Yeah, I got alot of Christmas movie/TV show traditions, and not to mention the Christmas specials (Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, Rudolph, Year Without a Santa Claus, Frosty...etc.)

Also, I have added The Ultimate Christmas Present to my 'traditions' list, which will go into effect next year :D

I don't really have any TV Episodes that I watch every year... I will watch the Fox primetime animation Christmas episodes when they come on TV (even though I am buying the season sets...)


BTW, of your list, the only shows I would consider watching (holidays or not) would be Alf, Family Guy, and the Simpsons... :P

Well, I do occasionally watch The Golden Girls on TV...

We have some favorite TV on DVD episodes that we watch:

The Beverly Hillbillies - Christmas with the Clampetts. Of all the Christmas shows this one ranks right up there with the best of them.

The Jack Benny Christmas Show - Jack and Rochester go looking for Christmas gifts at Gimbles, and 'cheapskate' Jack has a spending limit which drives the salespeople crazy. Featuring guest stars Mel Blanc, Dennis Day and the Great Gildersleeve. Funny, funny stuff.

The Ozzie and Harriet Show - "Busy Christmas" was one of the best of the Ozzie and Harriet shows in their long 14-year television run. In this show, Ozzie obligates himself to judge Christmas decorations, judge a Christmas talent show, and take the family out to Christmas dinner - all at the same time. Leave it to Ozzie to figure this one out. Pretty good show.

The Ozzie and Harriet Show - "Late Christmas Gift" - Ozzie goes shopping on Christmas Eve for a catcher's mitt for Ricky and gets sidetracked along the way, and just about doesn't make it home for Christmas Eve dinner. Funny show from the premier television family.

Just added this year to our regular Holiday movie watching is The Polar Express. Along with this new addition we usually manage to get in:

A Christmas Story - The best bar-none Christmas movie ever.
Scrooged - Bill Murray heads an all-star cast in a modern telling of the infamous Christmas story.
Jingle All The Way - Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake Lloyd in the classic tale of a man putting off getting his son his favorite toy and all the things he has to do to find it. Really a funny movie.
Home Alone - MacCaulay Culkin in his most famous role. This is a must see for all at Christmas time.
Holiday Inn - Bing Crosby and the gang in the most wonderful Christmas movie musical.
Trains, Planes, and Automobiles - Steve Martin and John Candy are at their best in hilarious story of two men trying to get home for Thanksgiving.
Miracle on 34th Street - The original with Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood, about the Macy's Santa Claus who turns out to be the real thing. Just absolutely one of the best movies ever.
It's A Wonderful Life - James Stewart and Donna Reed. Nothing else needs to be said about this classic. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without watching this one.

There are some others, but these are the one's that we watch more often than the others.

A Christmas Story-It just would not be Christmas without this holiday classic. I know a lot of the lines from the movie due to repeat viewings.

Christmas Vacation Just a silly holiday comedy that is the only good sequel to the original Vacation.

Elf- This instantly became a favorite for me when I first saw it in theatres. Will Ferrel is funny.

The Santa Clause- Just a nice film to watch around the holidays. One of Tim Allen's best besides Toy Story.

Rudolph- One of the greatest holiday TV specials.

Simpsons Christmas The one that started the whole series and still funny to this day.

Home Alone- Not the greatest but not the worst. Falls apart during the finale.

Charlie Brown Christmas- It would not be christmas without good old Charlie Brown.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas- I like to watch both versions. The live action one would not be as great without Jim Carrey. The cartoon is a classic.

SNL Christmas Filled with many funny sketches.

It's all in what one calls popular. If you are a kid, yours are pretty good, but for the adulsts, I think some of the others listed are a lot better, especially those TV episodes. Not a lot of people like some of those shows. And most of your list is animated, and what is with the VHS. Come on, get the DVD's and join civilization.

Your opinions are just fine. Don't get me wrong, but to say that someone else's are not the popular ones, is totally wrong.
