I still have confidence this is going to change. It already changed just recently bumping up Peter Pan...they can do whatever they want on a whim. I find it hard to swallow that they will re-release Snow White before all the others are originally out. And this is coming from someone who missed out on buying Snow White PE! I would love it - but Dalmatians must come FIRST. As a PE!!!

I highly doubt "101 Dalmatians" will get removed from the Platinum line. It was one of the original 10, which were selected because of their high selling status and mass public appeal. Just because Disney feels that it is about time to re-release the ever popular "Snow White" before the Platinum line is completed doesn't mean they are removing any titles. I personally am very antcy for the 2-disc Platinum release of "101 Dalmatians." The Platinum titles were originally supposed to be on a 10 year release schedule. Following that schedule, "Snow White" technically shouldn't be re-released until 2011 and "101 Dalmatians" wouldn't have been part of the line until 2009 or 2010. When they upped it to 2 titles a year and added 4 more, 101D was expected to get it's release March of 2007. However, "Peter Pan" has bumped it back and instead of it merely being the October release, "The Jungle Book" was kept on the schedule where it was supposed to be and 101D was expected to be released March of 2008. I personally favor "Pinocchio" over 101D, but not by much. The Fact that Pinocchio is coming March of 2008 pleases me, but I wish 101 D would be October of 2008. At any rate, I would say that it is most likely that if the current schedule goes unchanged, we will see 101D as the release for March 2009, which is on track with when it was originally going to be released to the Platinum line. What sucks is that the next fall will more than likely be a re-release of "Beauty and the Beast" to the PE line and the schedule will then be 1 new PE in March and a re-release in October. I would rather see them complete the line before they re-release any titles to it, but Disney has changed their 10 year policy to a 7 year policy and starting in 2008, it will have been 7 years since the PE line began.
you guys talk too much and protest too much but don't do something to change the situation if you want something you should do something send e mails to get them to release three platinums a year since they are re releasing the PEs this will give the opportunity for the new PEs to see the light early as planned

Oh such angry hubbubb.
It's still coming out my friends, no need to get Antsy.
As for how I know,
I'm the regional director of a chain of stores that specialize in DVDs.
It's my business to ask and find out these things as I am a Disney Fan.
Sure, my Head Office don't care when I tell them that Little Mermaid coming out, but when I hear customers constantly asking about Little Mermaid in my stores, then I know it will be a winner.
The moment Ultimate Disney posted the Peter Pan Platinum Edition art,
received my Japanese Booklet stating the fact & got confirmation of its release here in Australia, I was given the go-ahead by my distributor representative to start talking up the Platinum Titles.
Not that anyone has ever asked about 101 Dalmations.
Or Jungle Book.
But oh well.
So take a time out, Outraged Townspeople.
It's not like its been Song Of The Southed or anything major.
Do you guys need a hug?
I'll send my 6 year old over to cheer you up.
It's out in March 2008, before the Summer release of
Snow White on Blu-Ray no less.
So get excited, nubile and punctual!

Well according to the digital bits DVD player sales in the US are
111,654,953 see http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/ ... sales.html , while the estimated sales for Blu-Ray (and HD-DVD) player sales are going to be less then 2m by the end of 2006. see http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-6123837.html

I suspect we're going to see DVD releases for many, many years to come (they only phased out VHS 9 years after DVD was launched!), regardless of is a Blu Ray version is released or not.By year's end, Nickerson said, WHV projects that there will be 1.7 million high-definition playback devices in consumer homes: 500,000 dedicated HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc set-top players, 1 million game consoles (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) and 200,000 computers with high-definition disc drives.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
We're keeping BluRay players in stock from the end of November,
I'll see how they go.
But since we have over 2500 pre-orders for the PS3 in only 10 of
my states stores, people will buy BluRay DVDs just to test out their PS3.
As what happened with PS2 in Australia. The PS2 was their DVD for a brief period.
As for the Disney Titles, apparently they'll be on DVD & BluRay.
And if that is the case then I doubt anything extra special will be on the latter, other than maybe slightly improved overall picture and sound.

While i was sitting in my Introduction to Anthropology class, this thought suddenly dawned upon me... 2008 will start the official 7 year rotation for the titles that are currently PE.
2008
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (7 years since it's last release)
Pinocchio (8 years since it's last release)
2009
Beauty and the Beast (7 years)
101 Dalmatians (10 years)
2010
The Lion King (7 years)
Fantasia (10 years)
2011
Aladdin (7 years)
Sleeping Beauty (8 years)
2012
Bambi (7 years)
Cinderella (7 years)
2013
Lady and the Tramp (7 years)
The Little Mermaid (7 years)
2014
Peter Pan (7 years)
The Jungle Book (7 years)
if Disney stays true to their re-release ever 7 years plan then i feel the release schedule would look something like this. i'm not sure if disney would really wait over 10 years to release anything anymore so that's why i placed 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia, and Sleeping Beauty where i placed them on this list. Obviously they will switch it around but i feel like my predictions through 2011 seem reasonable. Also this would go along with what HappyPug heard, because this release schedule would have 101D after the next 4 releases (Peter Pan, Jungle Book, Pinocchio, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs).

I can't wait either. I wasn't expecting Disney to start releasing the Platinums again so soon, I thought that they'ed wait until the 14 titles had been released, but it's good that they're committed to re-releasing them every 7 years, like they originally said. I sucks that we won't get to see 101 Dalmations for a while, but hopefully they'll be able to get better bonus features this way. Hopefully a third 101 Dalmations comes out then (I hope it's better than the second one). Ollie Johnson had better be on the commentary. They should record it now, in case he passes away before it's release. The Little Merman wrote:I'm sure they'll add something to entice the owners of SW's previous PE to buy the new one, but obviously they only reason to release her again is sales, sales, sales.
Personally, I can't wait to go through all of the advertising again! I simply adore the film, and I really don't even remember anything about it's campaign at all, nevermind the fact that I didn't have a DVD player when it first came out.

The Snow White DVD came out just as I got into Disney. It's one of the first happy meals that I decided to collect, solely because it was Disney. I was 9 years old, and in Year 4 at the time. I'm really excited about this, because I haven't got many Disney DVDs, and the ones I want most are the Platinum Editions, that have been out of print for a while. I wanted the Snow White DVD, but my parents wouldn't buy it for me. I actually might start collecting the Platinums from this one, I'll be in Year 11 then, and I'll probably have enough money to buy whatever DVDs I want. Looking forward to buying this one, and also Beauty and the Beast. I can only hope that they don't change either DVDs, because I think that they're both perfect. I don't think that changes are neccessary at all. Except for The Lion King, that was horrible, I've heard. I'm excited!!!!
I don't remember the marketing campaign very well, but I remember the happy meal toys. Here in Australia they released 28 or so stuffed toys, and there were all of the seven dwarfs, plus other Disney characters, like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Chip, Dale, Crocodile (from Peter Pan), Mushu and Cricket (from Mulan), the Cheshire Cat, etc. I tried to get all 28 of the toys, but I didn't. I might this time, if they release them. I think that they promoted the DVD alongside the Disney Princesses line as well. I went into the city of Sydney for my birthday and at David Jones there was a special Princess shop in there and it had dolls etc. and they were playing Snow White and selling the DVD there.
I can't wait for it! I'm so excited!

101 dalmatians is not coming to dvd at all because lowry screwed up the restoration by erasing all the xerox lines and spots. thats why we have to wait another few years because disney toons studio is re-animating the film frame by frame and why little mermaid got a different restoration company.

do you still wait for me Dream Giver?
I think the 7 year cycle is great because it will ensure that Disney's most beloved animated classics are on rotation so that they are being re-released for Disney fans and a whole new generation of viewers. However, I do wish that Disney would finish releasing the entire Platinum line first, before beginning to re-release. In my opinion this is a let down for the die hard Disney fans who have been collecting the Platinum Editions since the beginning.

Impossible. How could Lowry have restored Dalmatians before Mermaid? The latter was slated for a much earlier release than the former from the beginning. If you'd said Disny weren't satisfied with the job done to Bambi, it would have sounded more reasonable that they would choose another company to work on Mermaid. You know what, even that sounds kinda impossible since by the time Bambi was done, Mermaid was probably half way through restoration.akhenaten wrote:101 dalmatians is not coming to dvd at all because lowry screwed up the restoration by erasing all the xerox lines and spots. thats why we have to wait another few years because disney toons studio is re-animating the film frame by frame and why little mermaid got a different restoration company.

There is no possible way that the restoration team at Lowry Digital could have accidentally removed all of the spots from the film. Have you ever watched the documentaries about the restoration process and how it is accomplished? They load the original film into the computer. Then they carefully inspect each shot to notice anything that is in some frames, but not others. These flaws are removed by a person, not a program, so it's not like they could push a button to remove all flickers and accidentally remove every spot on the dogs. And do you know how laboreous it would be to clean up the xerox rough animation lines? Especially in a film like 101D where you have 50+ characters on screen at the same time all made with the same xerox process. "The Jungle Book," which is coming out in a year, was also created with the xerox process. I think Disney stopped their agreement with Lowry after they went a little overboard with "Cinderella."101 dalmatians is not coming to dvd at all because lowry screwed up the restoration by erasing all the xerox lines and spots. thats why we have to wait another few years because disney toons studio is re-animating the film frame by frame and why little mermaid got a different restoration company.![]()

Perhaps the xerox lines have caused the resotration to slow down.
I mean, imagine trying to find out which stray marks you want to keep and which need to go
However, whatever 101 Dalmatians' hold up is shouldn't permit a rerelease of Snow White. If anything, Fantasia seems the next appropriate release. Maybe Disney is going to rerelease Snow White along with the "new" Platinum Edition that October (i.e. actually 3 releases).
The one thing that we have learned from Disney is that they can and will change any release date/specs up to the day of release (and sometimes even after that..........does anyone remeber "The Rescuers" recall of '98?). Therefore something that is announced, not even to the public, 2 years down the road seems sketchy and temporary at best. Until they announce Snow White for 2008 in the next Platinum Edition booklet I won't hold my breath.

Each store was allocated 30 copies and a few, but not all, sold out
before the week was out.
We were selling it from Monday the 2nd and had sold out by the Sunday of that week.
Re-stocking has been easy and continually selling well.
Pointless tripe like Over The Hedge has sold well too, only because of the big noises & shiny things that kids seem to like nowadays.
But purists snapped up their Little Mermaids as quickly as they could.
