This is the bonus feature I'm most excited for. I rode the new attraction in August and it was so impressive. I love the parks and WDI so I can't wait for that. I'm also very excited for the "Anatomy of a Legen" featurette about Davy Jones. He was so well done in the film that I can't wait to see how they did it.

I just got an e-mail from the disneystore.com. Both versions of Pirates are now up for pre order and you get a $10 digital coupon with your preorder. They are $19.99 for the single and $24.99 for the double. The coupon can not be applied to this order, but in my mind I really just paid $14.99 for the 2 disc. I pre ordered the 2-disc version and "Cars," which also comes with a coupon. I'm glad I have secured a copy with the special slip cover so I don't have to worry about them all being gone by the time I get to the store. I'm SO excited!

Whoa I'm gonna be buying a lot of DVDs that day because POTC: DMC comes out the same time Animaniacs comes out.

Cool specs! I'm a little dissapointed that Jack & Keira aren't doing a commentary, but at least we get Ted & Terry!

Color me suspicious, but does anyone else notice something missing on this release that's usually a staple of Disney DVDs? It's the deleted scenes. Both Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski confirmed that there'd be deleted scenes on the DVD. The fact that there's no mention of them here leads me believe that Disney's going to pull a Narnia on us and release an extended edition with even more supplements (and how much you wanna bet that release will feature a commentary or two by Gore, Johnny, Keira, and Jack?). I'm really just hoping this specs are incomplete (why no galleries this time?), but something tells me they aren't...

My thoughts exactly Disneykid. Very disappointing. That makes anothe Disney dvd i will wait for. What a shame, as it is obvious what they are trying to do.

POTC1 got a "Lost Disc" some time after its release with some good, but a bit extraneous bonus features (except for the POTC attraction feature formerly only on DVD-ROM). Maybe POTC2 will get a "Lost Disc" with the good stuff (deleted scenes, more featurettes, galleries)

I was hoping that the POTC2 DVD set would be just like the POTC1 DVD, in both amount of bonus features and set-up of bonus features (a regular documentary, a "diaries" section, a "Fly on the set" section, and then a hodgepodge of everything else), instead of just a documentary and a string of related-but-somewhat-unrelated-to-each-other featurettes.

Hopefully POTC2 will improve in how many chapters it gets, preferably something over 25. 16 was not enough for POTC1.

Well, all things Piratey are fine by me, and I really enjoyed this sequel so this is a no-brainer.

The inclusion of not one, but TWO Disneyland-related featurettes make this the must purchase of the year for me.

However, I'll more than likely pick up the local (Region 4) edition, with EXCLUSIVE tin:

It also comes out 2-weeks earlier (15 November)!

No. It's not a 2-disc version of "Cars." What I meant was that I pre-ordered the 2-disc version of Pirates 2 AND also pre-ordered "Cars." I probably should have made that a little more clear. Sorry to excite you. I really wish that Disney/Pixar would release a 2-disc set, especially since "Cars" is my second favorite Pixar film, and possibly my fravorite.

Forget about the tin! Australia (and other PAL countries) kicks ass because it's 4% faster, meaning you only waste 144 minutes of your life rather than 150 minutes! :D

Did you ever experiment with a non-R1 disc on your machine Escapay? Does it do the PAL > NTSC conversion?

Haven't had time to import a non-R1 disc yet even though I said I would like...a year ago. Plus, I've only hacked one DVD player so far to be R0, and haven't found hacking codes for any of my other players. I did find one for my portable player, though, but it needs to be done with a remote control, which I don't have and apparently can only be bought online.

I'd assume though, that the player I hacked (a cheap one from some small company) would have some type of conversion, since I was experimenting with the region coding on it before. Actually had it hacked to be an R2 player, which screwed up the picture, and I had to squint my eyes and pay close attention to what was highlighted to turn it back to R1, before I could hack it into R0.

If Disney releases a Narnia-esque exteneded cut, this will anger me. I'm a stickler for continuity, and I really want my Pirates DVDs to match. But, so far, Dead Man's Chest won't match anyway, because of the ugly border on the 2-disc. I wish they would make the covers match!

But, I guess this could mean Disney will also release an extended cut of Curse Of The Black Pearl, but I doubt it, as the DVD already had deleted scenes on it...

Also, I really don't think Disney will release a 'Lost Disc' edition. Which I'm glad of. Where are you supposed to put the extra disc??

PS
Does anyone have a heads up on that Cars 2-disc petition?? Did our efforts pay off??

PSS
Could you guys tell me who is actually buying the Narnia extended cut? I already own the collector's edition, and I love the movie...but I don't know if it's worth it...
:pan: Love It.

I just pre-ordered it (2-disc) from Amazon (through UD).

BTW, the DVD just went up and there are already 239 reviews. LOL!

I'm already upset that the set-up and format for the second disc is nowhere near what it was for POTC1, and the covers not matching miffs me a bit. But the thing I'm most upset about is that it's lacking in areas where POTC1 shined. Only one commentary instead of two (and one scene specific set), no deleted scenes, no real organized presentation of bonus features (a documentary and 9 featurettes all in a row as opposed to categories and sections), and while it does have two (yay!) attraction featurettes, it still doesn't have some good stuff like concept art and galleries. Progression reels, presentation reels, visual effects test footage...where is all of that?
numba1lostboy wrote:But, I guess this could mean Disney will also release an extended cut of Curse Of The Black Pearl, but I doubt it, as the DVD already had deleted scenes on it...
Yeah, but the deleted scenes are in various aspect ratios, so fans trying to make their own edits on the computer won't have a balanced picture.

I fear that Disney's trying to turn their POTC trilogy into a LOTR trilogy, except they're late in the game of making the DVDs uniform, which LOTR did and did very well. I'm sure Christmas 2007 will see a box set of both theatrical editions of POTC and by Christmas 2008, a double dip in "Extended Edition" form for all 3 movies, to milk it once more.
numba1lostboy wrote:Also, I really don't think Disney will release a 'Lost Disc' edition. Which I'm glad of. Where are you supposed to put the extra disc??
With the first lost disc, it came in its own digipak case (a sturdy cardboard wrap on a single-tray digipak, so like a snapper minus the snap mechanism on the side). I never understood why they bothered releasing it, though I'm not complaining. It's got good featurettes, but could have been saved for a later release.

I've got the CE to, but I'm a sucker for biographical documentaries, and will likely buy this for the CS Lewis biography disc. Plus, the 4th disc sounds promising, I'm really hoping that "VISUALIZING THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE: THE COMPLETE PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE " is featurelength, to justify why it gets an entire disc to itself with a short featurette and art galleries.

Still, if I don't get this, I've already got myself a 4-disc set of Narnia:
2-Disc Collector's Edition
2-Disc Soundtrack CD (1 CD and 1 DVD)

Still no mention of a DTS audio track? I'm guessing then that there's a possibility it either won't make it or Disney just forgot to mention one much like they failed to mention one in the original press release for the first film.
