I don't know if he was meant to be, but he does come across that way to me as well. TS3 alone launched a 1,000 slash stories.Christopher_TCUIH wrote:Q, was Andy supposed to be gay? I definitely got that vibe from him.
Although I don’t think it’s a reason to hate the film, I do find that final scene with Andy a little unbelievable for someone that age, tbh.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

I fully agree. And the fact he's the 'Nostalgia Critic' is particularly ironic in this case.PatrickvD wrote:Doug's 'criticism' is stupid. Just because he wasn't capable of having nostalgic feelings at the age of 18 doesn't mean everyone wasn't.
There are many intelligent, old souls out there who felt like Andy did. It's not a legitimate argument.

Yes, very ironic... Around Andy's age I also went through my childhood toys to put some in a box for donation. It brought up all kinds of emotions and feelings. Andy's reaction was something I identified with completely. Probably more than anything in the entire trilogy.Sotiris wrote:I fully agree. I thought it had it's flaws but it was not as bad as Cars 2.

How did he come across that way? Andy's sexuality is never brought up and plays no part in the film. Pretty sure there are slash stories for every fictional character in existence.Disney's Divinity wrote:I don't know if he was meant to be, but he does come across that way to me as well. I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I enjoyed Doug's review of "Brave". He actually conveyed his opinions more decently that he usually used to and most of the parts, I do agree with him.
The first half "Brave" is absolutely brilliant. I didn't mind the bear-plotline, but the movie lost its spark and heart after Queen Ellinor turns into a bear and became unengaging and generic. The script was also quite thin and not really coherent. Which is a pity, since "Brave" had the potential to be excellent. While I was disspaointed by the lack of spunk in the second and third half, I still liked the movie. The animation was stunning, the score was beautiful and the songs were catchy.
And no offense, guys, but I'm really tired about the "Cars 2" bashing. I know that I'm one of the minority, but I thought "Cars 2" has gotten way more hatred than it deserves. I'm not saying that its the best animated film ever made, but for what it was, I enjoyed it.

Skipped Robinsons and Chicken Little and went straight to Bolt.

Quite frankly, I am glad he skipped Meet the Robinsons, even if this does show how biased and prejudiced he is against Disney's early CG works. Based on that one exchange he had with Rob in one of the videos, he would have been annoying about it. So in a way this is good. He would have said the same thing everyone has said about Chicken Little anyways.FigmentJedi wrote:

Regarding Brave, I love the whole thing from beginning to end, but I do see how the movie went from serious to comedic in the halfway point. It does show how drastic the change in directors was after the big argument between Merida and Elinor. The witch was too comedic for someone that had a big role in the destruction of Mordu's kingdom, and while I did love the character animation the scenes with Bear Elinor were again too comedic. Despite that, I loved the film for what it was.
Cars 2, while I am not one of the extreme haters, does have a ton of issues that once again show how drastic the change in directors was. I would have preferred if the movie was a trip around the world story with the Radiator Springs gang, with the conflict being between Mater and Lightning, and how Mater comes up with a winning strategy that helps Lightning appreciate his friendship. The whole international spy thing was poorly done and felt like another movie that was in the work for Pixar but changed it to put it in the Cars universe. For me the movie shined when they were in all these places like Italy, England, Japan and such. They had something there that was ruined by the spy stuff and focus on Mater.
It's not the worst thing ever, hell it's FAR from the worst thing Pixar has ever produced, but Cars 2 is a victim of a franchise mentality ruined by two directors fighting over the same movie.
Going back to Doug for a bit, last year he annoyed me so many times with his criticisms, especially how uneven they were at times. For example, on the Rescuers Down Under review, he complained about how no one had seen the movie because people expect something out of Disney, and rants about how we shouldn't be judgmental of what Disney does since movies can be anything they want to be and still be considered the best ever made. But then he reviews Emperor's New Groove and complains about how he doesn't want Disney to make a movie about llamas... Not only did he fail to see the point of the movie and judge it based on its writing and characters, he committed the same crime he accused people of doing on the Rescuers review, and that is hypocritical of him.
Like I said earlier, when you are a film critic or analyst, you have to look at things through many points of view, judge a movie on its own merits rather than any personal biases you or someone else may have. You have to be deep and try and understand how film and storytelling work. At times Doug just looks at a movie and goes "OMG BEST EVER" or "This one nyeeeeh I don't know".
Another issue I had was with the Treasure Planet review. He complains about how he doesn't understand the film's art style and concept of old and new, classic and sci-fi. First of all, it seems Doug doesn't understand the concept of artistic liberty. Yeah, there is no way fantasy sci-fi could blend with classic architecture in the real world, but it can happen in an animated world. Second, I bet he has never heard of the Steampunk movement. Yeah, Treasure Planet isn't exactly Steampunk, but it does follow the idea of grand fantasy with sci-fi for an unique world.
It's those kind of nitpicks that tend to bog down Doug's criticisms of the movies. But that's just my opinion.
