Poor Sanjaya.
Well, I really only wanted to see him advance another week or two, so his time was coming. He's had a good run and persevered through a lot of immature behavior on the part of a lot of people. The audience's reaction when he was cast off tonight was nothing short of cruel.
The bottom three was a complete surprise and very disappointing. Of the three, I would have liked Blake to have gone. The bottom two were tough for me -- the two contestants I have voted the most for! Out of the two, I wanted LaKisha to stay on so I was glad she did.
We now have five very talented singers and Phil Stacey. Next week needs to see Phil's departure. He should have been the one to leave tonight. Yes, it was a good week for him, but he still at least deserved a spot in the bottom three.
Fergie surprisingly sounded decent, if still annoying. Martina McBride was good... if not for her needing to promote the current album, I would have chosen a different song for her. I thought "Idol" handled the Cowell/VA controversy very well and I was happy that they had the footage to back it up. I was proud of Simon and Ryan for their messages at the beginning and end of Tuesday's episode.
I think people are going to miss Sanjaya. So much of this season has been about him and he's brought a lot of personality to the show. Spot #7 is cursed! I guess I'll take all the votes I normally cast for him and add them to those that I always cast for LaKisha, who will hopefully recover next week and avoid the bottom three.
While everyone is entitled to an opinion, I will have to say that yours is way off the mark. What kind of music do you listen to anyway? American Idol is a singing contest, and Sanjaya could not carry a tune in a lead-lined bucket to save his soul. Second only to William Hung ("She Bangs"), Sanjaya was the worst contestant to ever have made the Top 12, and Hung didn't even get to Hollywood and still gets seen around the country and his 15-minutes of fame hasn't gone away.
Don't feel sorry for Sanjaya, he will be on the summer "American Idol Tour" and make a ton of money, and then he will fade away like a bad dream. Don't look for him to have a CD released because he doesn't have any talent that is marketable, and that isn't my opinion, it is the opinion of several people who have written columns about this year's show, and the lack of talent on behalf of Sanjaya Malakar and Chris Richardson, who in my opinion will be the next to go.
I will bet you a Happy Meal of your choice, that the Final Four will be Melinda, LaKisha, Jordin Sparks, and Blake Lewis. Blake is by far the most talented of the guys on the shows this year, and again, that is not just my opinion but that of a lot of other people more knowledgeable than you or me about the music business.
