Well, it is over, and the Country Music themed show was a real hoot, and the stand-out guy was Phil Stacey, followed closely by Blake Lewis. Melinda Doolittle rocked the house, and Sanjaya drove everyone crazy. This could be the week THAT SANJAYA GOES!!!!!!!!

My prediction for the bottom three will be as follows:

Chris Richardson
Sanjaya Malakar
Phil Stacey

Who will leave? That is anyone's guess but it better be either Chris Richardson or Sanjaya Malakar. I think Phil Stacey was not out of his element with country music. In fact, I think it was his best performance. Not good enough for the Final Four, but good enough to get in the Top Six. Let's hope that Sanjaya has reached the end of his rope.

They have never eliminated three contestants of the same sex in a row before, so they would set a precedent. Let's hope that Jordin is safe from harm and we don't see another Chris Daughtry 'vote off' go down.

Next week is the long-awaited "American Idol Gives Back" show, and the contestants will each pick a song of Patriotism or Inspiration. Could be a really good night or a really boring night. We will see.

Tonight's show was really boring for me. No one stood out. Martina McBride failed to give anyone real constructive criticism, all she kept saying was "that was amazing". Even Sanjaya's performance was uneventful!

I guess if I had to pick the best performance of the night it would be Jordin.
The worst (and it saddens me to say this) was Lakisha, with Chris coming in a very close second.
My predictions for the bottom three: Phil, Lakisha and Chris, with Chris going home.

Can't wait to see what Sanjaya's serving up!
Seriously?
I think country is quite easy to sing. The music is always simple and catchy, and practically any genre can be blended with it (i.e. Cowboy Troy, Rascal Flatts).

Wow, tonight threw me for a loop and challenged many of my "Idol" Season Six convictions. One thing that was not challenged: Sanjaya's my boy! Definitely a mixed bag in terms of vocals this week, but his most confident performance to date. While the judges managed to actually give him real feedback, it was still unjustly harsh.

I love country music but thought this year's talent would struggle with it... boy was I wrong. This was one of the show's best nights. Phil Stacey was at his best yet, though he's still the least talented of the remaining contestants and I still think this should and likely will be his last week.

Chris was the worst by far -- a total butchering. He could not have picked a less appropriate song. That last sentence is true for LaKisha too, who didn't quite butcher her song, but gave her weakest performance of the season. If you've read this thread, you know LaKisha is my favorite and that I've voted for Chris several times. I'll continue to do so because they've both demonstrated their talent in past weeks. Let's be honest, country isn't their forté and no one expected it to be.

(I also have to say that Chris' awkward and overly defensive comments and then the VA Tech comments -- which may have well been sincere but came dangerously close to sounding political -- could seriously hurt him.)

Jordin and Blake have switched places in my book. Early on, I was a big Chris fan whereas I was a little unsure about Jordin. Over the last few weeks, his stock has fallen with a series of less than stellar performances while her's has risen with constant improvement. Tonight, she brought the house down with the best performance of the evening. Simply amazing. Blake's was weak, and it really pains me to say that. We need to see the old Blake that made everyone sit up and take notice of him return. Sorry, dvdjunkie.

Melinda was pretty good -- not her best, but still quite good. Looks like there's no stopping her.

I loved that Randy played the "as an accomplished producer" card while Paula played the "as a performer" card. When's Simon going to brag about his music business success?

Martina McBride was a decent enough mentor. I thought it was a real shame that no one did "Concrete Angel." Had LaKisha done that instead of "Jesus Take the Wheel", it would have been a very different show.

Tonight, my votes went to (in order of quantity):

Sanjaya
LaKisha
Chris
Jordin (first time voting for her)
Melinda (first time voting for her)

Being a fan of country music, I was excited for tonights show.

Phil Stacey- In my opinion, this was his best performance yet. He has really grown on me with each week. I didn't care for him as much in the begining, but now he is one of my favorites. I really hope he sticks around another week. Country is deffinatley the best genre for him. I thought that since he sang "Tobacco Road." He did an awesome version of "Where the Blacktop Ends." I will more than likely buy the download.

Melinda Doolittle- I was so nervous that her voice wouldn't go smooth with country. She did awesome in my opinion. The best one of the night. And she looked so good tonight, too. I had never heard "Trouble is a Woman" before, but she was amazing at it.

Blake Lewis- The biggest dissapointment of the night. You all know I am a big Blake fan, but for me, this was just aweful. "When The Stars Go Blue" is an awesome song. I hated how he when he would switch to fallsetto, he would push it into full voice. It sounded very strained and unnatural and it didn't fit the song well. I really think he would have done better with a more upbeat country song or something by Rascal Flatts. I outright hated it.

Jordin Sparks- Like everyone else, I really enjoyed tonight's performance. I love the song, "Broken Wing," and she sounded amazing at the belting parts. Deffinatley one of the highlights of the night.

LaKesha Jones- I dissagreed with the judges (and most people on this forum). I was shocked at her song choice of "Jesus Take The Wheel," but I really liked her version. She gave it more passion, which I didn't think was possible. For me, it was one of her best performances.

Chris Richardson- Vocally, I really liked his version of "Mayberry" and I didn't think it sounded too nasal. However, performance wise it was weird and left a lot to be desired. His comment at the end about Virginia Tech made me think that maybe this was the reason for his less than stellar performance, because he is usually up there with the rest.

Sanjaya Malakar- Ok... I thought his performance last week was pretty good, but this was just plain aweful. It re-affirmed my hatred for the boy. I've heard people drunk singing in bars that sounded better than his performance tonight. It just plain wasn't good. I'd be satisfied if he was at least in the bottom three tomorrow. However, I did really like his joke about Simon singing some happy song. lol.

I voted twice for Sanjaya. That kid just makes me smile. I've just stopped caring about the singing. It's not his hair that makes him likable. It's his boldness and uncaringness of what people say about him. I don't think he's going to win but I really hope he makes Top 5. :)

I would vote more but... does anyone know how much it is per call?

I am officially rooting for Blake. I think (and hope) he, Melinda, and Lakisha will be the final three. Unfortunatley, I think Melinda will beat him out of winning (because she is fantastic) but here's for hoping!

As for Sanjaya, last night (as well as most of his preformances in general)was brutal.

SANJAYA IS GONE AT LAST!!!!!!!

I can't believe it, but Sanjaya is finally gone, we can now rest and know that there is going to be a true American Idol!!!

The bottom three was a big surprise with LaKisha and Blake along with Sanjaya, but when they sent Blake to his seat as "safe", it was down to LaKisha and Sanjaya and they finally got it right.

Great show, Fergie was phenomenal, and Martina McBride was okay. The Shrek The Third bit was pretty funny, and I was surprised that Bucky Covington wasn't introduced from the audience after he was on camera so much during the show.

Good week, overall, and next week is the great big "American Idol Gives Back" shows on Tuesday and Wednesday with our Top Six contestants singing songs of Patriotism and Inspiration.

My dear Sanjaya, it was fun while it lasted. I thought you would become the next American Idol. Oh well. The show just lost its best entertainer.
:(

So with that being said, can we PLEASE get rid of Phil already!

Well tonight's result show was nothing short of surprising. First of all, even though I didn't care for Blake's performance last night, I was shocked to see him rank into the bottom three. I liked Lakesha's song last night, but a lot of people seem to disagree, so maybe she did deserve to be in the bottom three. However, she's always been pegged to be in the top 2, so I was shocked she was in there. I was just happy that Sanjaya was in the bottom three, but when it came down to it, I thought Lakesha would be leaving just because Sanjaya has somehow managed to beat so many talented people. I won't gloat because I know a few UDers liked him and I know how I would feel if people were cheering if Melinda got the boot, but this does make the competition seem more serious now. On another note, I thought it was awesome that Phil was finally not in the bottom 3. I really liked his performance. And even though I like Chris, I'm still scratching my head as to why he wasn't in the bottom 3.

I'm not a big fan of either, but I felt it was the other way around. Fergie is attractive and I liked the song, but her singing was just ok to me. Nothing really special and if she was in the competition, she would be gone soon. I think it's funny how so many of the musical guests aren't as talented vocally as some of the contestants. However, I have to say that while Martina McBride's performance was dangerously close to the boring side, that she belted it out beautifully at the end. For me, she was the best guest singer they've had so far based purely on her voice. If she was in the competition, she would get far and probably win, unlike the guests before her.

I had read online earlier that Blake, Lakisha, and Sanjaya were the bottom three. However I have read a lot of rumors online this season that just didn't work out at all so I was a little surprised when they announced the bottom three tonight.

When they actually announced that they were the bottom three I had a strong feeling that Sanjaya would finally get the boot. I think the bottom three were right. Blake, and Lakisha while they have given strong performances in the past just didn't do as well as the others on Tuesday. Chris was weak as well though, and I thought Phil gave his best performance in the competition. Sanjaya should have been in the bottom three a long time ago. I have to admit I have become a Jordin fan. I think she gave the performance of the night, and Melinda as usual did great.

I have a feeling that Lakisha will be our surprise this year. Similar to Chris last year and Jennifer Hudson, she will go out early. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the final two were Jordin and Melinda. Blake will probably come in third, but who really knows. Right now the competition is pretty much up in the air. Should be an exciting ride to the finals.

I'm not watching anymore now that Sanjaya is sadly gone. Everyone else is just.... BORING. Melinda can sing but if I hear her breathy talking voice or see her smile one more time... I'm gonna scream. I really hate every single contestant... I guess besides Jordin.

Poor Sanjaya. :(

Well, I really only wanted to see him advance another week or two, so his time was coming. He's had a good run and persevered through a lot of immature behavior on the part of a lot of people. The audience's reaction when he was cast off tonight was nothing short of cruel.

The bottom three was a complete surprise and very disappointing. Of the three, I would have liked Blake to have gone. The bottom two were tough for me -- the two contestants I have voted the most for! Out of the two, I wanted LaKisha to stay on so I was glad she did.

We now have five very talented singers and Phil Stacey. Next week needs to see Phil's departure. He should have been the one to leave tonight. Yes, it was a good week for him, but he still at least deserved a spot in the bottom three.

Fergie surprisingly sounded decent, if still annoying. Martina McBride was good... if not for her needing to promote the current album, I would have chosen a different song for her. I thought "Idol" handled the Cowell/VA controversy very well and I was happy that they had the footage to back it up. I was proud of Simon and Ryan for their messages at the beginning and end of Tuesday's episode.

I think people are going to miss Sanjaya. So much of this season has been about him and he's brought a lot of personality to the show. Spot #7 is cursed! I guess I'll take all the votes I normally cast for him and add them to those that I always cast for LaKisha, who will hopefully recover next week and avoid the bottom three.

Looking forward to Idol Gives Back!

Ironically, that's the way most people felt towards Sanjaya. I heard many fans threatening to stop watching until Sanjaya was off. I personally found Sanjaya to be the most dull and lifeless contestant. The only thing he did more than other idols is walk around. All of the other contestants have at some point given show stopping performances. Sanjaya has not. Sanjaya also had a "breathy" talking voice and his smile was... ackward.

I think it will be nice to not have the drama that surrounds him on the show any more. It was old for everyone watching the judges try to figure out something to say with out absolutely crushing him. And to me, he has no personality. When they give him bad feedback, he sits there with the same grin as he would have if someone told him he just won a trip to Disney World. It was like watching a sack of potatoes being told it's not good. For me, I saw very little emotion and personality from him until he cried tonight.

While everyone is entitled to an opinion, I will have to say that yours is way off the mark. What kind of music do you listen to anyway? American Idol is a singing contest, and Sanjaya could not carry a tune in a lead-lined bucket to save his soul. Second only to William Hung ("She Bangs"), Sanjaya was the worst contestant to ever have made the Top 12, and Hung didn't even get to Hollywood and still gets seen around the country and his 15-minutes of fame hasn't gone away.

Don't feel sorry for Sanjaya, he will be on the summer "American Idol Tour" and make a ton of money, and then he will fade away like a bad dream. Don't look for him to have a CD released because he doesn't have any talent that is marketable, and that isn't my opinion, it is the opinion of several people who have written columns about this year's show, and the lack of talent on behalf of Sanjaya Malakar and Chris Richardson, who in my opinion will be the next to go.

I will bet you a Happy Meal of your choice, that the Final Four will be Melinda, LaKisha, Jordin Sparks, and Blake Lewis. Blake is by far the most talented of the guys on the shows this year, and again, that is not just my opinion but that of a lot of other people more knowledgeable than you or me about the music business.

His fame has most deffinatley gone away. The last I saw of him was a hilareous guest appearance on "Arrested Development" in 2005.

He will make $5,000 per show and after that, he will more than likely end up with a record deal. Magazines wrote countless articles on "Why Sanjaya Will Win," he somehow has quite a large fan base, and there will be a demand for anything Sanjaya by the people who miss him. I would be more surprised if Sanjaya didn't get a record deal. He probably won't be around 5 years from now, but I highly doubt this is the last we will see of him. His marketability is his appeal to the pre-teen age group. What pre-teens want, pre-teens get. "High School Musical" and "Hannah Montana" soundtracks were the number 1 and 2 best selling albums of 2006.
