I posted this in the POTC 2 Reviews, etc. thread, but, I'll also post it, here:

This is hot off the press:

"Pirates" sequel sets new record at box office
Sunday July 9 11:28 AM ET

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" set a new record for the highest opening in box office history on Sunday, smashing the four-year-old record held by "Spider-Man," said distributor Walt Disney Co.

The widely hyped family adventure sequel, marking the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, sold an estimated $132 million worth of tickets in its first three days of release across North America, easily surpassing industry expectations of an opening in the $100 million range.

The old three-day mark of $115 million was set by "Spider-Man" in May 2002.

Additionally, the "Pirates" haul of $55.5 million during its first day of release on Friday set a new record for a single day, beating the $50 million earned on a Thursday in May 2005 by "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Incredible! Final numbers will be posted on Monday. If they hold, this is absolutely an incredible feat!

MM1- How many times do you have to post this. You've posted it at least 5 times now.

Anyway, though, great for Pirates and Disney!

And now, I'm going to revise 3 of my predictions.

Invincible- $55m
The Santa Clause 3- $175
Meet the Robinsons- $201m

Shut up, Timon/Pumbaa fan! I've posted the article TWICE, to be exact. Once in this thread, and once in the other thread, which I followed up with information from BoxOfficeMojo.com That isn't posting it 5 times. At any rate, who cares how many times it is posted? It's exciting information. Who are you, God? A person can't make posts without your approval? Right back at ya!

You always find a reason for me not to like you, and your rude little statement with the rolling eyes gives me yet another reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fox is right behind them. :P

Justin, MM1, both of you need to calm down. You're going to start an arguement that will go on forever.

Argh!

As exciting as it is for this thread to get as animated as it ever has, there's really no need to get on anybody's case for posting something, nor is there a need to get on anybody's case for telling them to slow down on posting.

Honestly, the Pirates box office information is definitely relevant here and when another thread cropped up regarding the opening weekend expectations for the film, that certainly became a second place to discuss the matter.

If someone is continually posting the same thing in multiple threads (which usually only happens when they're doing self-promotion/spamming), then you can rely on the handful of moderators who actually do moderate to, well, actually moderate. No need to take that task upon yourself.

Thank you! Now, let's see some dang Bridge to Terabithia predictions!

Your $350M prediction is actually kind of low, now - LOL. This movie will see between $410M-$425M based on a predicted opening weekend of around 25-30% of total gross.

Bridge to Terabithia : $134 million

just a wild guess seeing as I have no idea of what it will be like or how the production values will be. But in a calm Box Office season it could appeal and provide Disney with its first hit of 2007.

hey, they're on a roll anyway.
