The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad - It's been a little while sinc eI last saw this so I thought I'd revisit it especially now since it's around Halloween, a perfect time to visit Sleepy Hollow especially. :)

Herbie: Fully Loaded - I really enjoyed it. I had a few complaints but it was pretty good overall. (Lindsay Lohan was a bit whiny) I really hope they make another down the road and the sooner the better but who knows.
One thing that has always baffled me is why Disney hasn't done more with Herbie... like an animated series! I t hink it could be done and even though I love Herbie I don't think he's a sacred institution that should not be turned into a Disney animated television series. IF they did that though I don't want to see a tlaking Herbie.
Anyways I watched the movie with two others. One isn't a fan of Disney movies and makes fun of every single one out there except 'Remember the Titans'... a movie that bores me. The other liked it a lot but wish they had cast someone else as Maggie Peyton but even though she's not a fan of Lindsay Lohan in the part she would still want to see her in the sequel since she's not a fan of changing leads. (...but I pointed out Herbie is the TRUE lead!)

Never Cry Wolf - One of the best films ever made. As I mentioned befre, it was the first Disney film where "Walt Disney Productions" was renamed "Walt Disney Pictures". That name still remains today as you might see at the very beginning of the film.

I watched Hercules today for the first time in a good while. I very much enjoy that movie, I must say.

I feel like I watched so much more, but that wasn't a movie; that was the MAKING of Hercules and then a ton of bonus features on Cinderella.

I saw Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement on Starz today while I was down in the city when I was living in Kingston NY that I don't have Starz. Julie Andrews was great in that film. She was also in "Mary Poppins" and some other non-Disney films like "The Sound of Music", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and the broadway musical "My Fair Lady". I have "My Fair Lady", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and "The Sound of Music" on vinyl. All three has Julie's voice on the record.

I watched with my friend:
1. The Lion King - She loved it. Said it was very moving, and surprisngly found the similarities with Bambi.

2. Tarzan - She called this movie violent. Then I started noticing that there are indeed many violent scenes, but nothing too over-the-top for a Disney flick. She was also surprised to see how many Disney characters actually die (was her first viewings for both movies).

I also watched recently Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lilo and Stitch and Pocahontas.

Well I watched alot of Disney movies just recently as I was catching up for lost time (I'm a newbie!):

Snow White: Have not seen this since I was a child and can't recall seeing it then, but I am sure I must have since I knew the story... wow, this is just a fantastic movie. Of all the Disney DVDs I wish I owned, this is the one. But as I had only discovered you could buy any of the these on DVD, I did't know it had been out a couple years ago. Every song in this flick is a treasure. My sister hates Snow White's little voice but I think it fits her face so perfect. I would love to have a CD of the songs on this DVD if they made a CD....

Bambi: After reading tons of reviews over at Amazon about whether or not you should show this to your kid (might scare them or make them cry), I finally got the courage to rent this one. (I say "courage," as I cry over the drop of a hat). Wow, well I cried just like 98% of the population that sees this. What a powerful environmental film this is/was. Thinking this was released in 1942 - it must have been pioneering in having such a powerful environmental theme... It is a beautiful film and I had to buy the Platinum edition DVD for myself.

Ichabod/Mr. Toad: A favorite this time of year. And didn't realize really til this year, although I've owned this on VHS for a long time, that Basil Rathbone and Bing Crosby are the nararators. They both do a stupendous job; I think Basil should have won an award for his commentary in this film. Toad is so funny and of course Ichabod is a cherrished piece as well.

Nightmare before Xmas: Wow, well I really did NOT LIKE this film. It is too dark in my opinion. I kept wincing when Sally's limbs would get torn and reattached by her - it is gross! This is too dark a film for my tastes and so I don't get why there is such a mania surrounding this film but oK, it is making Disney money so I won't complain. Just not for me.

American Legends (?): Well I can't recall the exact title, but the reason I rented it was because it had Johnny Appleseed in it; I want to post about this in another thread because I really hated the beginning of this film; a collection of stories and I don't recall seeing Johnny Appleseed within this collection. I used to get shown Johnny Appleseed all the time in grade school; I think it was in conjunction with some other films on the film strip but I just can't recall - was it Peter and the Wolf? I dunno. I was going to grade school in the mid-1960s if this is any help. If no one responds on this in this section, I'll repost as a new topic at some point. They did something weird with this black commentator at the beginning and it all looked like they'd spliced in some modern annimation etc. I didn't like it but at least they did not ruin Johnny Appleseed. It is as I remember it as a kid.

You got it right, it's "American Legends". While not reviewed here, American Legends is a sort of compilation DVD with 4 shorts. The John Henry segment was the only new one.

The Johnny Appleseed segment was lifted from 1948's Melody Time, the last of Disney's package features (I don't count Ichabod&Mr. Toad as a package feature). "Peter and the Wolf" is from 1946's Make Mine Music. Both movies are slightly edited here, but the UK's R2 release of Melody Time is unedited.

Paul Bunyan and The Brave Engineer are gonna be on the new Disney Rarities tin.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think James Earl Jones was the host for this DVD.

What is "Disney's Package features"? for whatever reason I keep remembering seeing Peter and the Wolf and Appleseed together, but the teacher may have been switching film strips to accomplish that.

So is Make Mine Music a film full of short stories? Is "Make Mine Music" or "Melody Time" available in any form on Region 1 DVD? I think you were right, the man's name is James Earl Jones.

Disney's Package features were four films from the mid/late 1940s that were essentially animated and/or live-action shorts strung together in one film. All of them are part of Disney's canon of Animated Classics, and were released as part of Disney's Gold Classic Collection on DVD. More information can be found on UD's reviews of each DVD:

Make Mine Music
This one is my personal favorite of the package features, despite being edited in R1.

Fun and Fancy Free
Still have to see this one in its entirety, I've only seen the Mickey & The Beanstalk segment on MMILCV2.

Melody Time
Haven't seen this in its entirety either, vaguely remember Johnny Appleseed, though.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Not necessarily "package" feature, merely two shorts on one movie.

A list of all of Disney's Animated Classics is here. Each DAC has been reviewed by UD, so this list is complete (at least until Spring 2006 when Chicken Little comes on DVD).

ETA: Forgot to list Saludos Amigosand The Three Caballeros in my post.

Tower of Terror- Disney's best Halloween movie.

This morning at around 4am I watched Mickey's House of Villains and Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie.

I enjoyed both. I'm a Winnie the Pooh fan although I wished they did a little more with that movie.
'Mickey's House of Villains' was really enjoyable. It was some good entertainment which I have ignored until recently. It took me a while to get into 'House of Mouse' since they were using so many classic characters so freely. What made me overcome this was my realization that it's just a cartoon and I should sit back and enjoy... plus if Walt Disney were still alive I'm sure he would have done the same. If you look at some older Disney material some of the classic characters mingled a bit.

Cinderella

Gus the mouse is my favorite character he cracks me up with his silly laugh. I don't quite remember it being so short though. It's strange.

Tarzan

The first time I've ever seen this! I liked it a lot, but was kind of annoyed at the Rosie O'Donnel voice (she annoys me). I liked the music (am a huge Phil Collins fan :D ) and the story was good too. I guess I was expecting much more with all the discussion of how great it is.

All in all, I'm glad I bought it and would watch it again :)

I watched Tarzan: SE a few nights ago. It was the second time I've seen it, and the first was only a few months ago, so I didn't think I'd be too into it so soon, but I really enjoyed it. I remember Tarzan came out in theaters right before I moved to France for two years so I never saw it, but I did get to hear the music thanks to a Scottish roommate I had for a few months who had the CD soundtrack.

I watched The Little Mermaid last night for the second time ever. I was babysitting a 7-year-old, and was delighted to find out that she owned the film. She didn't want to watch it, but I wouldn't stop bugging about it; and, since she's not one to be inhospitable to her guests, she gave in to my whim. So we watched it with two 60-minute intermissions. (7-year-olds cannot sit through a whole 83-minute film all at once, you know.)
Mermaid is such a wonderful film, and I cannot wait for the Platinum to arrive next year.

Sword and the Stone

I just love this movie man! Archimedes cracks me up! Not like I remember it though. It seemed like the movie was shorter for me... well seeing how its only 79 minutes long, it's not the longest movie ever. Also the DVD that I got has two animated shorts. One is where Goofy is a knight for a day and Mickey Mouse's "Brave Little Tailor." It's just an awesome DVD.

Thanks agian Escapay! ;)
