If anyone would like to offer help with restoring some of the posts, it would be appreciated. Deathie mouse has already kindly offered to take on a nice chunk of them. I'm still working on them too, but class and the like is keeping me from getting them all up rapidly. Just one or two people who can make heads and tails of a complicated Wordpad version of the UD forums and have some time to spare would be appreciated. You can look and see how I've been restoring them to see about what you'd need to do (the most time consuming part is deleting all the extraneous stuff that got copied along with it, such as signature lines and the like, so that it's easy to read in bulk). Just shoot me a PM or something if you'd like to help- you don't have to do that many. Just a little help would be appreciated. If no one can, that's understandable... it will just take a bit longer to get them up than I had originally planned (we sure can post a lot in 1.5 days!)

We're down to less than 300 Wordpad pages now. :)

As for the questions asked, I don't know the answers so much. Some of them were rhetorical, and some maybe we'll wait and see.

Thanks for all sticking with the forum. That's so important and I'm glad you enjoy this little community we have. :thumb:
Thanks Luke :)

I love it here, this is such a great place :)

Sorry, it looks like you took the biggest hit. Fortunately, Aaron and deathie mouse have been reconstructing many of them, so it could be a lot worse.

RJKD23 has offered to assist with the General Discussion restoration as well, so she'll be posting some as well. Thanks a lot for helping!

With that, I'm now down to just under 100 Wordpad pages. :)

Thanks, deathie! And sorry RJKD!

And ditto to what deathie said to both of you, as well as the others who have helped out here and there.

Are you two reposting threads by hand without any automated tools? Wow, that's amazing. You need to find the correct thread and add the lost comments by replying. You two must have lots of pages of lost threads and messages to restore.

Thanks for helping out.

Not to be a spoilsport here, but don't ya think we've praised Aaron enough? O_o I don't really understand this "WordPad" stuff, either. Did you "View Source" and save the pages like that? 'Cause I found it a lot easier (and much "cleaner") to just copy-paste the posts to a text document. It has all the user info and such, without all of the tags and coding.

But that's just cynical ol' Paka... grousing again. Don't mind me! :P

No, we haven't nearly praised Aaron enough! Single-handedly reconstructing two days worth of posts deserves no shortage of kudos! :)

Well I certainly don't need any 'praise,' though I do appreciate everyone's kind words. I don't need cynicism either, Paka. If you'd like me to send you the rest of the posts to post yourself, I can (or you could just go ahead and accuse me of dishonesty directly ). I'm just trying to help out.

The others who have helped deserve a big thank you just as much, I'd like to add.

I just highlighted the pages, copied, and pasted them into two Wordpad documents. There wasn't any source included, but it does have stuff like post count, registered date, avatar, signature line, "new topic," etc, and all that is deleted out when we repaste to make it look better. I was in a very big hurry to get it all copied and pasted because I didn't know when the reboot was going to come. Each document ended up being several hundred pages long- between all 5 forums, there was a lot. I'm not sure what there is to not understand.

It is a lot of work and while I hate to somehow raise your ire and cause an attitude to flare up, I really don't need complaints when I'm cramming in this time-consuming activity with other things too. I like the forums and care about them and am thusly happy that so much can be restored, but I certainly don't appreciate your comments in light of how much time it does take.

...Anyways...

Just to update everyone, deathie and RJKD have graciously offered to take on one more batch of posts each, meaning we're nearing the end. Thanks to them, this has moved much, much faster than it likely would have otherwise.

Hopefully all the saved posts from the forum will be restructured by sometime tomorrow.

It's not entirely finished just yet. I still have a few threads to put up when I get home, but not that many.

Iggie- most, if not all, of your posts will have been restored, but not your actual post count. It's unfortunate that you lost so many, as did many members. The most important thing is that the posts are still here to be read and responded to... post counts can be made up over time, and the loss of posts was largely proportional across the board. :)
