More surprising to see Through the Looking Glass higher than the first Alice though, that one let my expectations down since I'd expected it to be better than the first what with having more focus on the White and Red Queens (the only good thing in the first). Time ended up being the only really good thing about it for me.

Re: Ranking the Remakes
Interesting that two people have liked Mistress of Evil more than the first Maleficent now, that's a little surprising for me! I do think Michelle Pfeiffer's character was a better villain than Stefan (the pronunciation of Stefan in that film always irked me
).

For the record, I actually love both through the Looking Glass and mistress of evil way better than their predecessorsDisney's Divinity wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 1:28 pm Interesting that two people have liked Mistress of Evil more than the first Maleficent now, that's a little surprising for me! I find through the looking glass to also be extremely underrated. It’s actually quite inspiring, not to mention very interesting and feels authentically like something that Lewis Carroll would’ve wrote, despite one critical wrote literally asking “what does this have to do with Lewis Carroll?”Having studied Lewis Carroll in university, I can objectively state that this criticism is invalid and through the looking glass authentically created/added on new things that could’ve happened within Lewis Carroll’s works

Re: Ranking the Remakes
1. Cinderella
2. Cruella
3. Aladdin
4. Beauty and the Beast
5. The Little Mermaid
6. Alice in Wonderland
I don't really like or care about the rest. I consider a lot of the rest to be abominations, like having Mowgli stay in the jungle or Maleficent a good character or Peter Pan a failure of a character with a bitchy Wendy. I like to pretend some don't even exist. I know they made Cruella a misunderstood gray character like Maleficent, but maybe just because it's a prequel, or just because I like it so much, in addition to being an alternate take and not being the "real" Cruella, it doesn't piss me off. I enjoy it. That's my criteria for this list, what I enjoy.

Maleficent is a live action remake of Frozen rather than Sleeping Beauty.

@Patricier: Aw, I like Diaval becoming human.
I don't like all the little CGI creatures in the first, but they're in the second one almost as much. I don't mind the three fairies being stooge-like, since Flora and Fauna in the original were always kind of dunces to me (and Flora with an ego at that). Merryweather was the only one with a brain, Imelda Staunton would've been perfect as her, but I don't think they wanted there to be a smart one since Maleficent filled that role instead. Agreed about Elle Fanning.

Well, I don’t mind them being the second one as much maybe because the ice was already broken with the first one and I’m more used to it, but either way they didn’t bother me as much and the second one. The pixies are just annoying and even migraine inducing by their stupidity, That I don’t understand how anyone can actually like them. They may have perhaps been a bit “dunce” like in the original, but even if they had to “modernize” it a bit,They didn’t have to go that far and make them just complete idiots without a brain. Heck, Flora herself even actually felt like the original animated one so why couldn’t the other two?Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:02 am @Patricier: Aw, I like Diaval becoming human.I don't like all the little CGI creatures in the first, but they're in the second one almost as much. Re: Ranking the Remakes
But Flora comes up with the plan to hide Aurora as human peasant woman, which would have worked had a brainless Merryweather not had them use magic. And Flora also came up with putting the castle to sleep so they aren't heartbroken, and the idea for the spell for the sword going into Maleficent. She has a brain.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:02 amI don't mind the three fairies being stooge-like, since Flora and Fauna in the original were always kind of dunces to me (and Flora with an ego at that).
