It's not so bad. It looks like between 2014 and 2020, we'll only get 3 sequels.

I probably am in the minority here, but dear God, no more Toy Story sequels, please!

Love the shorts, and am looking forward to Toy Story of Terror, but some trilogies should stay trilogies (Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, anyone?)

There's a meme going around on tumblr which connects the dates between Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo to their sequels, with a gif of Sirius Black doing his infamous "I DID MY WAITING! TWELVE YEARS OF IT!!" line.

It would be perfect if this sequel was an Incredibles one, and was coming out in 2016, but I doubt that's the case.

I think Bugs alive is one of the better films, I've never understood why a lot of people don't like it. Regardless I find it a bit strange that a studio that has built a reputation on originality would factor in sequels as part of the game plan...I just hope that if they do they bring more to the table that Monsters University....I liked it but it was the first Pixar movie I felt a little underwhelmed by...

It has to be pressure from Disney. Disney never fully got over their sequelitis, even though they discontinued their DTV animated sequels. But they know that Pixar's films are more successful than their own, and they're taking full advantage of it. (In a weird way, Planes will fulfill the prophecy of the Circle 7 Studios.)

Basically, Pixar is falling into a trap. If their sequels continue to do well, they will only get pressured to do more and more, which is what appears to be happening now. It may eventually lead to brand fatigue. If one of them fails, or if one of their original films excel but is still perceived to be an underperformance, critics will quickly write it off as "PIXAR'S FIRST FAILURE", which may lead to a disintegration of their creative culture.

If they announce a Toy Story 4 or a Cars 3, it's over.

Nah, even I don't want any more full on sequels and I'm one of the bigger toy story nuts here. They were pushing their luck as it was with the third movie. Thankfully it turned out great in my opinion (not that there was any doubt with my avatar) but the odds are seriously stacked against them rolling that dice again. Figures crossed the most they ever do are these direct to Disney channel shorts, which I'm very much looking forward to, but it has to stop there.

Right now I'm fairly confident they wouldn't follow up this soon, should it happen. We'll get Dory, probably the incredibles. I'd even take a ratatouille, or a bugs life sequel gun held to my head before that. Just please, let Toy Story keep its dignity. I don't ever want there to be a black sheep of the franchise that we have to ignore.

Of course we'll get another Toy Story sooner or later. Toy Story is Pixar's biggest franchise after all. You must be kidding yourselves if you think they won't make another one, especially now that Pixar will routinely produce sequels as part of its business model.

I doubt though we'll get sequels to A Bug's Life or Ratatouille as they aren't popular properties and don't have many merchandising opportunities.

Where does this leave WDAS? Will that studio be doing sequels too? :|

Their films aren't successful enough financially. No immediate reason to worry yet.

Tangled 2
Tangled is a lot less conducive to sequels then most Pixar films. They did not make a world with a creative[*] premise which they might want to play around with some more, unlike Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Cars etc.[*][*]

*Creative in that the world features unusual elements distinct from the real world, not a qualitative judgement.

**Not that I approve of pre/sequels to those films.

If there is to be a sequel to a WDAS film, it will be for Wreck-it-Ralph due to it's premise.

Well, Rich Moore isn't shy when it comes to doing a WiR 2. So that's a possibility.
"Wreck-It Ralph" was a huge hit with audiences and critics. Would you do "Wreck-It Ralph 2"?

Oh, yeah. My experience was so tremendous on this film and the animators, the designers, the story artists, the actors -- I know everyone here had a good time making the film. I've talked with John and Sarah and we would all love to visit that world again and work with those characters again. We would jump at the opportunity. We're all crossing our fingers about as far as you can cross them that we get a chance to do that.

Remember when John Lasseter said, "NO! Disney animated sequels aren't okay!" Now, Pixar sequels, to him, are okay.

I love this! Did Disney release that? There was that blooper on the Lion King Diamond Edition of Rafiki tripping and Simba flying out of his arms.

The way he probably sees it is: a budget for a Pixar sequel is far larger than a Disney animated sequel's budget and that makes it more worthwhile than a Disney animated sequel.
