Aren't Cory and Topanga a little young to have teenage offspring? They were married in either 1999 or 2000, and the show ended in the latter year. If their daughter is 13, and the show takes place in 2013, that means she would have had to have been born around the year 2000; and to have an older teenage son would require him to have been born in the '90s, probably when Cory and Topanga were still in high school.

This is just another example of writers screwing with a show's timeline, which is one of my pet peeves.

But, regardless, I loved Boy Meets World and I'm definitely looking forward to this spin-off. I, too, have some apprehension over it airing on Disney Channel. I really hope they make this new show remain true to the original and not turn it into some bopperish, Hannah Montana-esque silliness.

While I wouldn't rule out the show taking place in 2015, Danielle said on her twitter the show will air in 2013.

The show has always played it fast and loose with the timeline though, so that shouldn't be a surprise. All we need to know is they went to new york and had a baby or two shortly after. Don't do the math, just go with it. lol

She acknowledges the timeline weirdness too in response to someone else on twitter.

Someone said: "for all that was great and wonderful about bmw, no one could ever claim it had any continuity"
to which she responds
"EXACTLY! :) "

She's also let out some other tidbits.

Reconfirmed plans to air on Disney channel.
Show will take place in New York.

Edit: by the way, she'll be on the soup tonight talking about GMW. Probably just a quick gag er two but I'll be watching for sure.

The problem isn't the 13 year old daughter. That seems kind of plausible seeing as how the show won't air until fall 2013.

But the 14 year old son... that's weird. They should have given the girl a younger brother or sister. Not older.

Also, I wonder who else will be back from the original series, or make guest appearances. It's good to see that the original creators are back. I always enjoyed BMW for its moments of sincerity in spite of being an outlandish sitcom. The characters were relatable. Which is incredibly rare for high school teenagers in a sitcom. They're usually caricatures.

Well, you have to remember that this is a show that removed characters with zero explanation (though there is one episode where they make a joke about it), not to mention Morgan disappeared for a couple of seasons only to come back with a different actress cast.

And didn't Cory's baby brother go from being a baby to three years old in the span of one season?

Rider Strong on gmw. Doesnt seem too promising for anyone hoping he'll join the cast. He doesnt say he wont do it, but thinks the show should and will be about the next generation. So yeah, while an ongoing thing doesn't look likely, I'm still holding out hope for some guest spots.

For more than two-thirds of my life, I’ve had the good fortune to experience the incredible support of Boy Meets World fans. Complete strangers hug me on the street. I’ve been mobbed by school children on the subway. I’ve had tow-truck drivers recognize me and refuse to let me pay. I’ve had people buy me drinks in Louisville, in Hyderabad, in Accra…

And that’s just the people I’ve met in person. I can’t express enough gratitude to the BMW fans, who not only watched our show when it first aired, but who continue to watch it, spread the word, and even introduce it to their children. It’s an overwhelming feeling to have that kind of support for something we did over a decade ago. When I opened a Twitter account, I thought maybe I’d get a few hundred followers. It wasn’t long before thousands of people were checking in and sending me messages.

Boy Meets World was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. It was never just a job — on a personal level, many of my best memories and friendships were formed because of it.

So I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World. There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters.

It’s the next generation.

And I, for one, can’t wait to see it evolve.

He also posts a pic of the day of shooting the final episode. I wont embed since it pretty large.

Ben Savage Calls Girl Meets World Poetic

et ready for an influx of "World" news! Now that the iconic 90s hit, "Boy Meets World," is getting a spin-off (finally!), media outlets (ourselves included) are fighting for time with the show's old stars. Rolling Stone magazine was lucky enough to get the scoop this week from Ben Savage (a.k.a Cory Matthews), who surprisingly admitted he wasn't initially thrilled on the idea of recreating the classic series. But, eventually he was swayed--the genius storyline involving his onscreen alter-ego's daughter in "Girl Meets World" sealed the deal. "I like that concept, because it's very poetic and it's kind of passing it off to the next generation," he said.

Savage also dropped some major news: Production is scheduled to start in February of next year! Casting for the daughter role, however, is still ongoing. "There have been a few names tossed around," he said. "You know, we're slowly trying to find the perfect girl."

I am proud of her and I'm so happy for her! :) She'll be great.

But, let me say this: a movie star...and she sings? Really, DC?    The last thing DC needs is its 300th singer (even though she might be the ONLY talented one right now) and i just wish that Disney would pick a random person with NO experience of movie/TV/modeling work, not a movie star.

Interview with Michael Jacobs on GMW
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-f ... obs-416846

Some highlights I took from it.
We brought in finalists, girls we thought would be absolutely lovely in the role, and we had a test session. When we were listening to the girls and the dialog coming out of their mouths, we realized something was wrong. The girls seemed a little too old in aspect. We were doing a coming-of-age story and you can’t cast somebody who has already come of age. The cost of coming of age has gotten a little younger.
The world is different today. Even in the 20 years since Boy first premiered, there have been so many changes in the lives of children and how they grow and what they have been exposed to on the television screen, the movie screen and the computer screen. That influenced why we couldn’t cast a 13-year-old because it seemed to me we were coming into the middle.
I think of Boy Meets World and I think of Wonder Years and I think of Happy Days, which I grew up [with]. The thing that delineates this show is that I don’t want this to be anything except the natural experience of actually growing up in this current world. I’m reading a lot about, “Is this girl going to be a singer? Is this girl going to aspire to be an actress?” This is a girl who is going to aspire to put one foot in front of the other and to try and understand the confusion that is her life. That’s what I think becomes real about this show. The stories we intend on doing are stories about a real girl who is coming of age.
This is reassuring I think. While he doesn't outright say no, she's not going to aspite to be famous, he seems to be implying they wont be doing that.

Anyway, definitely read the whole thing.

Riley's best friend Maya has been cast. 13 year old Sabrina Carpenter. I see she sings as well.

Already touched on before, but Jacobs is saying it more bluntly now.
"Riley will not aspire to be an actress, singer, or dancer as many fans have speculated. “That was never Boy Meets World and it’s the farthest thing that this show will be.”

Cory and Topanga's son Eliot has been cast: Teo Halm. As far as I can tell this one's not a singer with hardly anything except a short to his credit so far.

Kinda thought his hair would be curlier. Though since he's been said to carry the eric gene that makes him get dumber as he gets older it I guess it makes since he would resemble him more than cory.

Will Friedle comments for the first time on the show and the chances of him reprising his role.
I have to say that, presented the opportunity I’d like to kinda be Ben’s older brother. Ya know he’s got Fred, but we were always together on the set and we had that kind of brotherly bond. As far as the show, I’m 36 years old now, and I have an amazing time doing Boy Meets World, I really did. It was one of the highlights of my life, and seven years I’ll never forget, and I want to remember it, exactly as it was. So we’re certainly going to be there on the set with them and supportive in every possible way that we can, but as for actually going back and reprising the character… it’s tough, I really don’t know. I really couldn’t tell you. I’d be lying to you if I said either way, frankly.
I think it’s important that the new cast kind of gets to have the opportunity that we did as kids, and get to learn their characters and get to grow up doing that as well and maybe we need to just kind of leave them alone a little bit and let them do that. So, you know, who knows, the future’s a funny thing, you never know what’s going to happen, but I will definitely be involved as a fan, I can tell you that.
