Wow... after this year, I really feel sorry for Disney... The general release of movies, have been getting better this year. (Look at TDK!) But Disney has managed to still retain it's magic, and release amazing movies. (I quite loved CoN:PC, and Wall-E) but both of them failed to meet expectations. It's honestly quite sad... The future looks grim for HSM3, and for Bolt. I'm sure both are going to be great, but I doubt if they will make what Disney hopes for...

Me to! Mediocre movies like Indiana Jones 4, Iron Man and Kung Fu Panda are making a lot of money (The Dark Knight is great and deserves all the money it can get), so why can't more people go to the cinemas and see Disney's movies?! They to deserve to make more money. To bad they did not get more commercial success, they are both critically acclaimed, but I hope that the numbers will be a little more impressive when the movies have been released in theaters all over the world...SofaKing381222 wrote:Wow... after this year, I really feel sorry for Disney... I've updated all the numbers again. I have no idea why Box Office Mojo hasn't updated the total for Wall-E in the foreign market! I check every day and it's getting frustrating. I don't know where else to get the data from, though.
And, I'm still looking for a site that will give me free access to DVD Rental/Sales data.

With Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince out of the way, I feel BOLT will do much better financially.
I hate having to wait even longer for Harry Potter, but I feel happy for Disney. I'm going to hope that BOLT brings in at least $150-$175M.

All data has been updated. I still don't believe the World total for Wall-E is accurate.
I am anxiously anticipating the opening weekend result for Beverly Hills Chihuahua!

Thanks for the info!
It is especially low for a movie ranked 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes!

I know WALL-E hasn't been released in Australia yet, but how bout all all the European countries like France? I know Ratatouille did incredibly strong in the overseas market. Hopefully it's current grossing is not a indicator of it's final gross yet

Some interesting observations:
Ratatouille stayed in release for 24 weeks.
Cars stayed in release for 19 weeks.
The Incredibles stayed in release for 23 weeks.
Finding Nemo stayed in release for 29 weeks.
Wall-E had a better opening weekend than both Cars and Ratatouille. Yet, Ratatouille had much stronger legs and was making more money per weekend at this point than Wall-E is. I doubt they are going to keep Wall-E in theaters for much longer than 20-22 weeks. Still, it has the potential to make an additional $10 million. It will be interesting to see how it fares over Labor Day weekend.
And, I'm still looking forward to next month to see how Beveryly Hills Chihuahua is actually received in theaters.

I've updated data again.
+ Only 20 more days until the release of Beverly Hills Chihuahua! I haven't seen any additional advertising for it on TV recently.

Note: Beverly Hills Chihuahua had a WAY better opening weekend than Eight Below, Underdog, The Shaggy Dog, and Snow Dogs.
Domestic Summary Beverly Hills Chihuahua Underdog The Shaggy Dog Eight Below Snow Dogs
Total Gross $30,657,030 $43,760,605 $61,123,569 $81,612,565 $81,172,560
Opening Weekend* $29,300,465 $11,585,121 $16,310,058 $20,188,176 $17,814,259
According to history and good word-of-mouth, I would expect BHC to gross more than $85,000,000. I would bet it'll hit $100,000,000. Wow.
FYI: I really liked the movie!

I'm THRILLED that Beverly Hills Chihuahua stayed atop the box office for two full weeks, and the third week only dropped to #2. Wow! I'm crossing my fingers that this one makes over 100M.
On to......High School Musical 3!!! Come on people - how big do you think opening weekend is going to be??? They've been advertising the heck out of it - I even saw a bread commercial. Any guesses?

Some guess it to be about 42 million, don't know if there's any truth to it.kbehm29 wrote:I'm THRILLED that Beverly Hills Chihuahua stayed atop the box office for two full weeks, and the third week only dropped to #2. Wow! I'm crossing my fingers that this one makes over 100M.

Comingsoon.net predicts it to be 46.4 million. Wow! That's more than the entire gross of College Road Trip in one weekend.
I am definitely taking my kids, but I don't know if I wanna go on Friday night. Saturday, my older boys and my step-daughter are at their other parent's house, and Sunday is trick-or-treat, so I am caught in a bind here. I hate to push it off a weekend, but it's looking that way....

A couple of thoughts:
They could have re-released The Nightmare Before Christmas a week or two earlier to maximize Halloween exposure.
Madagascar 2's gross has already matched HSM3. What's up Disney? Why does Dreamworks eclipse you every time?

Can we talk about Bolt's box office possibilities? BOLT opens next Friday the 21st, but unfortunately, it opens the same time as a PG-13 Vampire movie so it won't likely be #1 next weekend.
There's a preview this weekend at theaters, for BOLT.

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.
