How do a majority of people not care about blu ray? It's still brand new, and is having a pretty impressive outrun.

High Def will always be a niche market, and Disney of course will be there to hawk their collections on Blu Ray and DVD - I really don't see Disney dropping Blu Ray where they can easily get some extra cash out of it.

Countless surveys show that the majority of people who buy movies for home viewing are not interested in Blu-Ray. That could change, but as of right now Blu-Ray is not the runaway success a lot of people make it out to be and there is still the risk that the HD-Formats could both be abandoned if they don't catch on. 3-6% of the marketplace is not enough to keep studios making players/discs for years if that number doesn't increase.

They are pushing it big time now in the hopes that it will catch on, but if it doesn't they aren't going to keep making it.

The majority of people are completely happy with DVDs, and see no reason to upgrade is the main thing I keep hearing. Blu-ray just has defeated HD DVD. Its not going to go away, and it will be successful. I still don't think Blu-ray will be as successful as DVDs. However I think once the price comes down on Blu-ray players, and discs you will see more people buy them.

Also has anyone heard of any store exclusives for the DVD? I was hoping for a plush, or something...

Oh I totally agree! I never think it will top DVD, but I always will see it as a market open for those who love high definition movies...didn't Pirates 3 on Disney High Def Blu Ray sell 110,00 copies on the first week of its release? I know that's a dent, but still for a movie that's fairly new, it's pretty good!

I just want my DAC's to look the best that they can be! Also imagine the extras that can fit on the disc as well!

"Early adopters" ( people who buy a new product when it is brand spanking new product !! ) always pay the price in other words the earlier you buy a new product for example portable DVD players were intitially about £1500.00 in the UK now they can be bought for under £100.00!! If Blu Ray discs came down from £25/£35.00 price bracket a whole lot more people would buy them - early adopters are subsidising the later product!

Thank you Brown Puppy for posting the photograph of yourself with the DVD - I for one cannot wait to see the DVD !!

Cruella De Vil/Maleficent/Wicked Queen/Peddler /Witch are my three ( or four if you count the Wicked Queen's alter ego the Witch/Old Peddler Woman as a separate villainess ??!! ) favourite villains , and this year , I'll get to see two of them again in remastered versions plus original character design artwork in the Extras on 101 Dalmatians/Sleeping Beauty Platinum DVD's - I wonder when the US Sleeping Beauty artwork will be published - we've read so much about the French version!!???

When will Snow White come out as a Platinum Release (?) - I hope it will be the Fall 2009 release!

A couple of days ago I watched my VHS-copy of 101 Dalmatians and now I have pre-ordered the DVD which will be coming out in March.

Any of you still have VHS-tapes of Disney classics? And if you have replaces them with a DVD, what do you usually do with your old VHS-copy? That is, if the picture quaility is still good enough to watch?

My old VHS -copy of "101 Dalmatians" is still good...

How on earth did you get a copy so early!

You are one extremely lucky, sectative person brownpuppy!

But anything more you can tell us at all? As people have mentioned; new trailers or anything ?

Also, do you guys think Disney will carry on with PLatinums as they have said they would? like, start repeating them? I hope so, as I'm certainly missing a few. I think it would still be worth Disney repeating themselves personally.

Thanks brownpuppy! The insert looks good, I'm really excited. I hope that is not the cover art, it probably isn't, it doesn't look like cover art. Thanks again for posting the picture.

I figured Pinocchio would come Spring '09 because it has been in the vault longer than anything. I still think it is weird Sleeping Beauty is coming first though. I wonder what they could possibly put on Sleeping Beauty to make it better than the Special Edition I got several years ago.

Brownpuppy,

Thanks for posting the info. Could you verify for me the actual aspect ratio on the DVD. I know the press report said 1.33:1, but press reports have been wrong before.

Thanks.

Not much I'm guessing MichaeLeah, I believe that the whole reason around it is to introduce the classic on to people with Blu Ray.

I'm also glad that Sleeping Beauty is now going a bit more mainstreamed as you know Disney advertises the hell out of the Platinum Line, and Auroa will finally have her chance to shine.

Although I'd love as a guilty pleasure to see Hercules in the line!

OMG!!!! if that is how the cover art comes out i couldn't be happier. Personally Aurora and Phillip are the most on model that I've ever seen them. Also notice that they cover up Aurora's dress completely, which stops the whole "which dress should she be wearing discussion"! Aurora and Phillip are also centered above the title, which is nice.

I absolutely love it! Thank you brownpuppy!!!! you really just made my day!

P.S. I'm so excited about Pinocchio. I can't wait to see it remastered!!!

Ugggh. Why is it so hard to make Aurora's hair the right color? Do Animated fake-blond's sell Disney DVDs the same way real fake-blond's sell Porno?

I just don't get it...

I know what you mean. Disney constantly keeps making Aurora's hair color a primary shade of yellow when in the film, it's a dark, muted yellow that almost looks greenish. In other words, they keep making Aurora a flat-out blonde when she should be dark blonde.

That aside, I'm torn about the cover. On one hand, it's gorgeous. Purple really suits the film well, and everybody is on-model (Aurora's hair color notwithstanding). I find it amusing how the logo covers up Aurora's dress so that the viewer can decide what color it is. It's a definite step up from the 2003 SE cover.

On the other hand, it feels too much like a redo of that cover. The layout is generally the same, and I was hoping for something completely different like the prototype French covers we got. As lovely as this new (and probably final) art is, it doesn't hold a handle to either of the covers showing Maleficent transforming into a dragon. Those pieces were too beautiful to go to waste, so I'm hoping France gets one of them, even if we don't.
