I really haven't seen Robin Hood, only like 2 times, and I really don't remember anything about it. So I can't really say that I don't like it, because I don't know the film. I am really looking forward to this re-release because I don't own any way, shape, or form of this movie, so this edition is good for me.

I still think there are reasons to say that RH is among the weaker ones, but I agree with you - there IS "something to love".MichaeLeah wrote:I think it might be liked by people who were watching Disney animated films before TLM more than those who began watching them later. Whatever you do, don't get upset or jealous when Disney reissues an animated film (that may potentially be improved), there is something to love about all the (feature) animation.
I'd say a lot of the complaints in this thread (my own included...) are about "stupid edition titles" and also based on the expectation that this edition won't exactly live up to that title...
Well, my main complaint is, based on Dumbo (and even Tarzan's R1 re-release) nothing of any substance will be added.
So it's really a pointless re-release. We know Lilo and Stitch has a treasure trove of supplements already filmed. I know. Because I have the 2 disc edition. Twice. We know that The Hunchback of Notre Dame had a feature packed Laser Disc release. While Hercules didn't, but we know other films made around the same time have benefited from unseen (then) contemporary footage and we know the creators are available to contribute to the DVD supplements.
This new Robin Hood most likely isn't going to be an upgrade at all. Anyone expecting even the shortest of featurettes on the actual making of the film are likely to be disappointed. I dare say the all new supplements will consist of nothing more than a game and a Disneypedia, but Disney hide this fact with silly names and a pointless slipcover.

Just because RH is one of the weaker Disney movies, doesn't mean that it doesn't need to have a good DVD. I'm sure that whatever this edition has on it, the DVD has to be an improvement from the Gold Collection DVD.

Well, as much as i like RH, I'm certainly NOT thrilled about this release. RH is one of the two gold collection DVD's I have...and I dont want to double dip. Reason being: after the TENG, Tarzan, and Dumbo, we are virtually GUARANTEED a single disk release. Also, I'm not sure that Robin Hood really HAS that much as far as recorded Audio Commentaries, or anything of that nature, and if they do, it won't be much. So I pretty much agree with everyone here: Unless Disney decides to give each and every DAC a 2disk SE, full of features, then I won't double dip on RH...or ANY other Disney DVD i own...unless its something like a Limited Issue (TLM, LatT, 101 Dalmatians, and TJB), then i will double dip... but certainly not for Robin Hood.
Oh, and whats up with the TITLE??! I mean seriously..."Big Top Ed.", "Most Wanted Ed."?????? They make the titles seem so...childish. But then again, i suppose that Disney is directing the sales for children and their parents....as they have been for the past couple of years..

Well, Disney isn't the first to release new editions with these stupid names. Paramount is probably the worst offender, as far as that goes. I mean, they're reissuing Pretty in Pink in an Everything's Duckie Edition and Grease in a Rockin' Rydell Edition.brotherbear wrote:Oh, and whats up with the TITLE??! I am surprised at how much Robin Hood is disliked around here. Not everyone is a huge fan of The Lion King, ya know...

Really...I think Disney has more important classics to revisit! As everyone has been saying; Hercules, Hunchback, Black Cauldron...
Robin Hood is good enough in its present release. I have the region 1. The picture quality is very good. It's sharp and the colours are vibrant. The sound is just OK. If you want an improvement, then go for Region 2. I hear it has 5.1 sound as opposed to the 1.0 sound on Region 1.
When they rerelease it, I'm not rebuying. It's not worth it. I wouldn't even rebuy Hunchback and Black Cauldron if they rerelease them, because I can't afford it. LOL!
At the moment my priority is to complete my collection of Disney Animated Classics, and I'm still a long way off. 20 of 45 films in 3 years.

At least you have 20/45! I only have like 17/45. So this edition is good for me, since I don't have it. TFatH's 25th anniversary edition is also good to me, once again, because I don't have it. TLM will also up my collection, as you can say.Julian Carter wrote:At the moment my priority is to complete my collection of Disney Animated Classics, and I'm still a long way off. 20 of 45 films in 3 years.

At risk of taking this thread a tad off topic, I too have 24 out of 44 (I'm not counting Chicken Little on principle because Walt's company has always been an animation leader, and that film represents their faltering back to "follower" status with a junky DreamWorksish spoof film that will not last.) So I'm going for owning the 44 traditionally animated classics. So far I have (edition only marked when there are multiple releases):
1) Aladdin - Collector's Gift Set
2) Alice in Wonderland - Masterpiece
3) Bambi
4) Beauty and the Beast
5) Brother Bear
6) Cinderella
7) Dumbo - Big Top
8 ) Fantasia - 60th Anniversary (1-disc, not Antholegy)
9) Fantasia 2000 (1-disc, not Antholegy)
10) The Fox and the Hound - Gold
11) Hercules - Gold
12) Home on the Range
13) The Hunchback of Notre Dame
14) Lady and the Tramp - Platinum
15) Lilo & Stitch
16) The Lion King
17) Mulan - Special
18 ) Peter Pan - Special
19) Pinocchio - Gold
20) Pocahontas - 10th Annivrsary
21) Sleeping Beauty
22) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
23) Tarzan - "Special"
24) Treasure Planet
This means that I have 20 left to get, which -- from the looks of it -- will only really be aided by The Little Mermaid for the rest of 2006 unless I grab a couple catalog titles between now and then. Obviously, I'll get Fox and the Hound as well, but since I already have the Gold edition it won't help in completing the collection, only bettering it.
To bring this back on topic, I'll probably end up going for Robin Hood's "Most Wanted" disc because it will be easier to find and cheaper than the Gold Collection version upon its release. I can't imagine it will be all that much of an upgrade, but I can't see it being a downgrade either, so I may as well go with it.

I caught Robin Hood on Toon Disney a few weeks ago and I liked it, but I'm not sure if I would get this. For one I don't know if I'd be able to get it, especially if it's 20 dollars(15 maybe, but my dad says he's cracking down on his funding of my DVD collection). And two, I just don't know if I liked the movie that much. I'd much rather see a special edition for Hercules, The Aristocats, or Oliver and Company. I mean of all movies why this one? If I did get this it would just be to build my Disney DVD collection(the only DAC I have is Aladdin), but otherwise I'd rather just wait until it comes on Toon Disney again and tape it.

You misunderstand me. I have 20 Animated Classics AND 20 DVDs overall in my entire house. You have 17 Classics but more DVDs which are not necessarily classics. So I've collected 20 DVDs in 3 years, which is kind of slow.TheSequelofDisney wrote:At least you have 20/45! I only have like 17/45. So this edition is good for me, since I don't have it. Source: http://www.comingsoon.netOkay, so if Dumbo's "reissue" didn't perform so fabulously, why the hell does Disney think -- out of all of the remaining films -- Robin Hood will do well.
Wrong Dumbo: Big Top Edition did good when it was release in the first week it landed on number 5 with heavy competition too.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Underworld: Evolution topped the DVD sales chart for the week ending June 11, while Warner Home Video's Firewall, starring Harrison Ford, took command of the rental chart for the same week.
"Underworld" outsold Firewall by nearly a 3-1 margin, far greater than the box office disparity between the films ($62.3 million vs. $48.8 million.
Still, Firewall took second place on VideoScan's First Alert chart, with three other newcomers rounding out the top five: Buena Vista's Glory Road at No. 3, New Line's Running Scared at No. 4 and the Walt Disney Company's Dumbo at No. 5.
Firewall topped Home Media Retailing's video rental chart for the week ending June 11 with estimated rental earnings of $10 million. "Underworld" finished a strong second, with rental revenue of $9.5 million, while Glory Road bowed at No. 3 with $8.5 million.

Do many (any?) members hate RH? I just checked the thread roughly and couldn't really find any of that.memnv wrote:Robin Hood is one of my favorites, I am a little surprised so many members here hate it, but oh well to each their own.
I think RH is among the weaker of Disney's animated features, but I still don't think it's really bad - and I certainly don't hate it. Others may speak for themselves, but it seems to me that most feel pretty much that way.
