I want the DVD because of Forte the pipe organ. I'd use it to make a Forte and Hexxus (from Fern Gully) tribute music video. They're my favorite of the Tim Curry's voice acted characters. :D

I bought the DVD from a UD member last year (along with "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas"), when I upgraded from VHS. If you haven't already, you might as well ask for it in the Trade forum.

I just purchased this from e-Bay and don't think I got a legit copy.

It has shrink wrap with the Buena Vista Home Entertainment Logo - but that isn't enough to convince me.

The case is clear. I've never seen a clear Disney DVD case.

I've seen white and black - but clear?

Anyone know about this?

I bought it back when it came out and the case was white. As far as I know, Disney has never done a release in a clear case, with the exception of the slim cases that housed multi-disc TV shows, like Ducktales.

The best way to see if you have a bootleg is to pull out the artwork and check the paper stock. It should be embossed in certain places as well to make certain parts shine. Also check the disc art, which should be thick since it was printed directly on the disc. If it feels really smooth, like paper, or is glossy, it isn't legit.

Since you bought it on eBay, you will want to contact them and let them know that seller is selling bootlegs. I had this happen with a limited Issue of Lady and the Tramp once before the Platinum edition came out. I contacted eBay AND left negative feedback stating that the DVD was a fake. The person sent me a rude email claiming that they "paid good money" for the DVD they sold me, but clearly that wasn't the case.

I was afraid to open it in case that voided a possible return.

If it is fake, and I open it, can e-Bay assist me in getting my money back?

I'm not sure the ebay policies, but I can say that I spent a good deal of time last year searching ebay for new copies of this movie, and I'm fairly certain that nearly all on there are fakes. Now the one I got is a good fake, if there is such a thing. I was very unhappy that it wasn't genuine, but it played well.

Well, this sucks - I just bought The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride Special Edition and Dinosaur Collector's Edition - both were new, from e-Bay, sealed, and I was content. So for this to happen is a letdown.

This definitely seems to be a fake - the BVHE logo is smudgy, but it's there, there is a DVD label white sticker on top, but the clear case is a giveaway.

I'm just afraid to open it and don't know how to get my money back.

my rule with ebay..

1. item MUST have a clear photo of the actual item.. no stock photos.
2. check sellers percent feedback 98% and higher is good.
3. watch how long it takes to be received. if a seller is a trustworthy and good seller they ship quickly.
4. if you have any doubt whatsoever that it is fake.. send it back. 30 bucks is not worth it for a piece of crap.

2 of those factors were in place here:

The seller's feedback was 99.5% after nearly 200 sales.
Item arrived in less than a week.

The seller said I could return it:
Thanks for your message. I appreciate that you talk to me to figure it out. All the items I have here are 100% authentic and original with proof documents, and I bought them directly from the manufacturers. As you may know that this specific DVD is current OOP, and only a few distributors are able to provide them. From time to time, there may be some different settings for the minor features of the outside packing of DVDs, such as case, wrap material, or even pictures on the cover. It is just normal. However, if you are not happy with this DVD for any reason, we will be glad to refund your money back without any question asked. Please confirm that you would like a refund on this item. Thanks for your business.

That is nice of them to take a return. The person I bought my bootleg from wouldn't accept a return.

I'm pretty sure they know it's a bootleg.

That .5% off they got was another customer who said they got a Lion king bootleg.

I didn't think 1 negative out of 200 was anything to worry about. There weren't any neutral responses.

The seller's response to them was ' this is one of our competitors trying to ruin our feedback'.

I was surprised to see the seller sold a copy of BATB: TEC, then re-listed, sold, re-listed. This was the third re-list. I just thought they had a couple of copies. The rapidity of selling and re-listing should have been a tip-off.

At least I'll get my money back to buy a real copy.

A lot of consumers on eBay don't know the difference between an official release and a bootleg, so if the disc looks real (IE: is sealed) and plays correctly, then they have no problem.

If I were you, when this is all sorted out, I would inform eBay of your experience. I just remembered that the seller I bought the Lady and the Tramp from told me they would refund my money after they received the DVD. I sent it back and never heard from them again, so be forewarned that this could happen to you as well.

I learned from my experience to never buy anything with stock photos and whenever I sell DVDs on eBay, I include lots of photos of them so bidders know its legit.

Yeah.

I had to laugh, one sale for this DVD also had a clear case - but they had a real, not stock photo. The DVD? A burnt DVD, still gray, no attempt at labeling it.

I didn't know if the seller was trying to convince people it was real but was just that stupid, or, was being really open about the fact it was fake!

You should contact eBay- let them know that you suspected that the DVD is a bootleg, and send them the reply you got. Let them be involved, so if you never get your refund, they'll help out- there are protections for both sellers and buyers on eBay and PayPal.

I would contact eBay prior to shipping back the DVD, just to see what they say.

I got a bootleg from ebay a few years ago as well. I on the other hand opened because at the time I didn't really mind. It was in a clear case as well, btw.

After a while it ate me up that i didn't have a original so I ordered one over Amazon a few weeks ago and got a legit copy! Maybe you should try Amazon.

Jake Thomas in Hotel for Dogs: "Nobody questions shrink-wrap."

But seriously, Amazon is much better. I've made many purchases, and have never had a problem with them.

I got a bootleg from Amazon once. Surprisingly, it wasn't from the marketplace either. It was Spirited Away before Disney's DVD release was out. It was dubbed and shrinkwraped, but when I opened it, the case was way too cheap, so I did some research and found out that it wasn't officially released in region 1, so I contacted Amazon, who refunded my money, pulled the DVD from their store AND let me keep the copy. lol.
