Re: treasures
Hi, Scott. It did seem like I had moved into the Archives at times, didn't it? Even when I went to work at Warner Bros., as Disney gave me a parking pass for the lot. I spent most of my lunch hours there for several years while working on the book.scottwolf wrote:Hi Bill,
I have two memories of you. Seeing you almost any time I ever went into the archives and the Happiest Millionaire Party. Wasn't that at your house? That sure was fun.
I'm looking forward to the new "Your host..." DVD set. Any idea if they will still edit the 10th Anniversary or are they going to be able to release it uncut now? I love that but like the Tiki Room section is like running fingernails on a blackboard to me because I know that episode so well.
Hope all is well with you!
Scott Wolf
And yes, the "Happiest Millionaire" party was at my house. It's still a kick to think about Dick Sherman leading songs on my daughter's keyboard. Boy, was that a while ago or what?
As to the Tiki Room segment - I have to check that. I know what was planned but want to make sure they came through with it before I can say for sure. I'll try to stop back. Been buried on some fun projects and need to do some creative writing for one.
What are you doing these days?
Bill

Well ... I am actually VERY disappointed and let down about the contents of "Your Host ..." because of the amount of previously released material.
Up to now I've tolerated the "double dips" because they've been just a handful of shorts, but since I already have the "Disneyland" Treasure from Wave 1 AND I have the "Darby O'Gill" DVD, that makes one full half of this Treasure a double dip, less whatever bonus features there might be.
I now call into question the decision to make this a Treasure choice - I think a better choice would be to include Disneyland or Disneyworld themed shows other than those included in the "Disneyland" Treasure from the first wave.
I'm going to have to pass on this one - too bad. I'm sure I'd enjoy the other 2 shows, but I'm not going to buy a whole set, half of which I already own.

I understand how you feel about the double dipping, but I prefer to look at this set from the "half full" point of view instead of "half empty". I'm also very disappointed in the double dipping, but I also want both the Kodak 1959 Disneyland program and the Fourth Anniversary Show on DVD. I doubt that either will show up in a future Disney DVD collection. Plus I expect some of the extras to be entertaining / informative.ohmahaaha wrote:Well ... In the meantime, it is uncertain just when this WAVE 6 will actually be released for sale. If it is delayed, I hope it isn't for several months like Wave 3.

I don't think I'm looking at this set as "half empty." I VERY MUCH enjoyed "Disneyland 10th" and "I Captured the King;" in fact, I was prepared for the inclusion of "I Captured the King," knowing that it perfectly fit the profile of the Treasure set's theme .... where I draw the line is the inclusion of a full hour-long show that was already included in a previous Treasure set. There is absolutely no excuse for this. I can see where they might want the "Leprechaun" to be made available to those people who did not buy the "Darby O'Gill" DVD, but if they thought there were people who did not buy the earlier "Disneyland" Treasure, why not just re-release that whole Treasure?!? Every show on that Treasure set would also qualify for the "Your Host" theme, and I think we really need to make our feelings known to Disney about something like this. And, I remember I purchased both "Disneyland" and "Darby O'Gill" thinking thae contents of those would "never be seen on a future DVD" as well.jebsdad wrote:I understand how you feel about the double dipping, but I prefer to look at this set from the "half full" point of view instead of "half empty". I think Disney is being kind of unfair to those of us who been loyal customers.
I understand your feelings and agree with them. I also feel including the Disneyland 10th is unfair, and felt the same way as you about "Leprechaun" being included. Whatever contents of this set that are not double dipped are still worth the money to me. I wish there would be some press release or something saying what the status of the Treasures Wave 6 is.ohmahaaha wrote:I don't think I'm looking at this set as "half empty." Yes ... it seems unlikely that they would have 8 2-discers coming out the same day, doesn't it? So I'd say that it was more than likely that at least one of the series will be delayed beyond that December date.jebsdad wrote:I wish there would be some press release or something saying what the status of the Treasures Wave 6 is.

Disney Treasures
Hi, I'm the new guy.
I'm pretty psyched about this set, though I AM disappointed about the double dipping too. However, even though it is one of my favorite movies, I still haven't gotten around to getting Darby yet, and I love "I Captured the King of the Leprechauns," so that's good news (except that I know I'll get Darby eventually, and who knows which I'll get first...). Anywho... really psyched to see the Kodak Presents Disneyland '59 and the 4th Anniversary Special. It's true, it's quite a bother when something from a previous Disney Treasures set shows up in another set though. I mean, something that is such a huge chunk of the contents. I still look forward to the set though, and all of wave 6. My main complaints, which are few and rare, about past Disney Treasures have been the editing to the Disneyland set and some cases where sets could have contained more. The set with Swamp Fox and Baca was the one that REALLY irked me, when they could have just given us the complete show of one or the other. I'm a huge Swamp Fox fan. If they ever release the rest of the episodes in a future set though, I'll withdraw that complaint.
Anyways, any hints about Wave 7? Yes, I'm jumping the gun a bit, but there are some things I'm dying to get, like the short "Scrooge McDuck and Money!" Fans have long hoped for an education shorts set that would include that one, "Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons," the "What Should I Do" and Jiminy Cricket shorts, and others. I certainly hope that will turn up in a future release. I'm sure we'll get another Donald volume in Wave 7, and that's great. Hope it has "This Is Your Life, Donald Duck," and "Your Host, Donald Duck." I hope we see more of the Mickey Mouse Club too though, including the '70's and 90's versions, and much more of the parks. I'd like to see Disneyland USA, Disneyland Showtime, The Muppets at Walt Disney World, The Mouseketeers At Walt Disney World, and more of those Birthday/Celebration/Anniversary/Opening Day type shows.
Doubt we'll ever get "Captain Eo," but that'd be pretty sweet. I know Maltin doesn't want to go beyond Walt's days in the Treasures sets, but 70s and 80s themed sets would be a neat idea. The 70's had stuff like the MMC of the time and Mouse Factory, among other stuff. The 80's had Fluppy Dogs, Mickey's Birthday (with Roger Rabbit!) and some great park Birthday Shows, the Herbie TV series, Totally Minnie, and more. I'd also like to see a set of "Uncut Disney," for original versions of Melody Time and Make Mine Music, and I'm sure a lot of us want "Song of the South." Then there's the Ludwig Von Drake shows, and "Pacifically Peeking with Moby Duck." Okay, I'm done blabbering for now, ha. I'm sure I can think of more though...

For those who haven't heard already, three more volumes of Zorro are now available through the club and it is rumord that this completes season 1. It totals 5 discs so far. I was expecting it to take at least 6 months so I'm very excited they were released so soon. Mine shold be at my doorstep tomorrow. I can't wait!
As for "Your Host, Walt Disney," I don't mind the inclusion of "I Captured the King of the Leprechauns," but it does bother me that the 10th Anniversary is on there. Especially since a.) they could have added a 5th episode to make it feel like a better buy (other Treasures of Disneyland episodes have had more than just 4 episodes) and b.) they could have substituted something else since the majority buying it have been collecting the treasures since wave 1. Walt is my hero so I was so excited when I heard of this set. It will still be the Treasure I watch first when I get it on Christmas morning, but there are so many other episodes that predominately feature Walt to choose from.
