I was being serious. I wouldn't survive all the 'jolly' festivities if it wasn't for John McClane killing off fifteen terrorists whilst blowing up the entire place. A perfect antidote to all the chagarin sweetness if there ever was one.

Yeah, films like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Batman Returns, Trading Places, and Gremlins aren’t really ‘traditional’ christmas movies, which is what I meant when I said Miracle on 34th Street was my favorite of the genre. In fact, they're "non-traditional" christmas movies, which is apparently a thing (I found this with a quick google search). So I guess that makes Die Hard my favorite 'non-traditional' christmas movie.

Fair enough, but I still feel Miracle pulls off the "Christmas jolly" thing well, which isn't an easy thing to do. But Die Hard is good too.

My personal favorite Christmas move is Nightmare. It's the perfect movie for both Halloween and Christmas, IMO.

I finally saw Butch Cassidy a couple of weeks ago and... I didn't really like it at all. I didn't like the linear narrative and got very few laughs out of it. The Sting fared much better for me.

Anyway, I'm working on a list of films that I'm planning on watching, and in a year or so, I'd like to look over it and see if I have.

I actually just finished one of the films I was going to put on my list (The Lives of Others, which I just couldn't get into), and I have two of the others that I've been planning to watch available for me to soon (I pulled out my mom's VHS copy of Rosemary's Baby and rented The 400 Blows from Netflix), so I didn't add them to the list.

These seem to be great films that ought to be seen, an are praised by many. But I don't feel compelled at all to watch them. Pulp fiction looks like an orgy of violence, The Great Lebowsky sounds boring.

^ Don't watch The Big Lebowski. It's pretty much useless; I found it to have no entertainment value and wasn't funny at all. I know some people will tell you it's marvelous and must be seen, but I think it was a boring, humorless film that should be avoided (unless, you know, you want to waste two hours of your life).

It loses something the second time around. For that matter, so does the whole movie, and Reservoir Dogs is the same way.

Er... you just explained it yourself: Sam Jackson, a bigger-than-life character in this movie, shoots a lowlife thief just because he annoys him! Didn't you hear the dialogue?!



It's just masterfully build: the tension is heightened with each and every second. They don't just storm in and kill them off, no, they let them sweat for five minutes before taking their revenge --and they do it all in style. But you have to watch it till the end to enjoy the cleverness of it all.

Yes right... brutal killing is fun and entertaining as long as you build up to it with a clever dialogue and the victim is a petty thief. Anyway, I saw the scene out of context of the story, knew nothing about the hamburger-eating guy. But did see an agressive guy who enjoyed a killing.

Still not my cup of tea -I've seen plenty of violent movies like Braveheart or Missisippy Burning and even appriciated Fargo. But to me, this is just violence for the sake of violence. I don't enjoy it, however 'clever' or 'witty' it may be.

I 'get' it alright. It just isn't my taste. Not everybody has to like mr. Tarantino's style.
