Man, we're going to be waiting a while, now aren't we?

I can imagine the press release...

George Lucas the MCXXXVIII (1138) has announced that he and 1900th Century Fox will be releasing the original 20th century classics, "Star Wars", "The Empire Strikes Back", and "Return of the Jedi" to ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ-DVD (Alphabet-DVD), just in time for the Non-Demoninational Holiday Season. The films as they had been seen in 1977, 1980, and 1983 have been out of print since 1995, never again to see the light of day until now, more than 18000 years since its original release.

"It's time we pulled these babies out of the vault," Lucas MCXXXVIII said. "When George the First originally released them back in 1977, 1980, and 1983, he knew the pictures weren't complete. And even by 2004, it still was not whole."

And whole it wasn't, until 2043, when George Lucas put the finishing touches on what he called his "Ultimate Vision" of Star Wars. Included now was every deleted bit of footage taken for all the films, re-edited completely and digitally enhanced with CGI 5.43, a new interactive program Lucas created that allowed the viewer to live in the fictional universe for the duration of the movie, which had gone from one two-hour film in 1977 to a trilogy by 1983, then a sextology in 2005, a nine-movie series in 2014, and finally a 15-movie series in 2026. But the "Ultimate Vision" Lucas finished in 2043 was a whopping forty-day movie, essentially showing 400 years in the Star Wars universe. Quite a task for anyone to watch. The Ultimate Vision of Star Wars has since been the only version available of the films, despite mass bootlegging by people cutting up the film into its fifteen original movies and selling them for a mere $1000 a pop on the streets.

The new Limited Edition Alphabet-DVD will feature the original cuts of the first three movies. Lucas the MCXXXVIII has said that he plans on releasing original cuts of the other twelve movies throughout the next year. Bonus features will include the original audio commentaries from its 2004 DVD release, a four-day documentary, "The Original Trilogy: How It Influenced the World We Know Today", and interviews with original castmembers Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Anthony Daniels, who were brought out of their cryogenic stasis a year ago, and are now residing in several 25-year old rental bodies.

"I'm so glad we can release these films," Lucas the MCXXXVIII stated. "After the Ultimate Vision and the TV Shows and the cartoons and the stage musical, and the Moon Shadow Puppets Series, it's nice to know there's still a demand for such classic gems..."

The Limited Edition is set for December 6, 2006 with an SRP of $49,99.95

This is kind of a spoiler... Some screens of the new deleted scenes. It's not clear wether these are actually to be in the movie, or just in the bonus disc. Anyhow, click here.

They are on the bonus disc.

The last 4 pictures are great. That should have been in the movie in my opinion.

As far as I've heard the movie is the same as what we saw in the theaters in May.

Yeah they will. The prequels were good, yes even Episode I, but they had a lot of hype and three great films to try and measure up to.

I like to think of it as a saga now, and not 6 different movies, but its hard. I still see A New Hope, Empire, and Jedi as better films than the Prequels. I guess growing up with them for 20 some years I will always see them as better films. They are Star Wars to me, but Revenge is very close. It was better than Menace and Clones, but I thought it went by way to quick. It felt like a 80 min movie, not an almost 2 1/2 hour one.

Hearing that Revenge looks like it does on DVD is great. Sounds like it got an outstanding transfer on DVD. Also I can't wait until Clone Wars Vol 2 is released in December.

Sitting down to a marathon of these movies during the holidays is going to rock. I can't wait.

At least now we know that Lucas is planning to release "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" on DVD. I remember playing the hard and good NES version of the TV series. I wonder why CBS canceled the show?
Just like "The Flash" why can't CBS give these shows a second chance?

DVD Movie Guide has a review which perfectly sums up my feelings towards the film:
Does Revenge of the Sith live up to the levels reached by the original trilogy? I don’t think so. Some folks place it above Return of the Jedi, but I wouldn’t give it that much credit. Just because Sith is darker than Jedi and lacks fuzzy-wuzzy Ewoks doesn’t make it a better movie. Jedi delivers a more coherent narrative and a slightly more satisfying emotional punch, mainly because we cared so much more about the Original Trilogy’s characters.
A few hardy souls have placed Sith above Star Wars, and I suppose at least a couple prefer it to The Empire Strikes Back. On both accounts, that’s crazy talk. Though Sith is very good, it doesn’t merit a place on the same level as those two classics.

I think most people look at the Star Wars Saga in the wrong light. Those of you who know your Star Wars history will remember back in 1974 when George Lucas said he was working on a "nine-part" story of a family in the future. He said that he was going to start in the middle and work back, and then forward. Thus he gave us Episodes IV, V, and VI.

After"Return of the Jedi", George Lucas said 'the saga is complete".

Then a few years later he announces that he is going to write, produce and direct the first three chapters of Star Wars focusing on the life of Annakin Skywalker, who later became Darth Vader. He told us there was something incomplete in the 'first' Star Wars trilogy and he wanted to tell the story from the beginning.

Of course, everyone jumped for joy and started getting their hopes up for some gigantic epic-of-a-picture and when "The Phantom Menace" came out, were let down that there wasn't the same fire and excitement about the movie that the "first" three had instilled in us movie-goers.

I think that all the hype that preceded this Episode One release had us looking for something entirely different than what it was. A BEGINNING. All stories have a beginning and this was the beginning of "Star Wars".

Albeit, the characters didn't have any depth and Jar-Jar Binks grated on everyone, but I, as a fan of the series, got just what I was looking for. A beginning of where Annakin Skywalker came from and some of the background on Obi-Wan Kenobi. I was a little let-down, from the lack of story-line depth and character development, but willing to let it slide until Episode Two.

"Attack of the Clones" turned out to be everything that I was looking for in the Star Wars prequels. The characters were further developed. Annakin began showing his true colors, and Obi-Wan began showing his distrust of his young trainee. The action was as needed, and the story progressed the way it should have. Having remembered some of the things in "A New Hope" that Obi-Wan shared with Luke about his father and about his past life with "the force". If you look closely in certain scenes, you will see shadows cast by Annakin Skywalker that show the form of the Darth Vader helmet. (I have been told there are 14 such scenes, but I have only found 11 of them).

As a fan of the "Star Wars" films I was pumped and ready for what would be the 'connecting' chapter of the Star Wars Saga. Meanwhile I was given a great animated series called "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" on television, and that was supppsed to get all of us primed for this third and 'connecting' chapter in the Star Wars Saga.

When chapter three "Revenge of the Sith" was announced, my friends and I were pumped that they we were finally going to get to learn how Darth Vader became Darth Vader.

In May of this year we were treated to, what I think, was the best of the first three chapters, and probably the best 'connecting' story that Lucas could tell in the Star Wars Saga. All the loose ends were tied up, and we saw Annakin's personality being taken over by the dark side of the force. We saw him turn against those who truly loved him and saw him try to save the one person he really loved - the Princess. I thought the ending sequences in the "Sith" chapter connect all the pieces so much that I wanted to go home and watch Chapter Four "A New Hope" the same evening that I had gone to see "Revenge of the Sith". To me that is good movie-making.

I think that the problem with critics of the series was they were expecting way too much from Chapters I, II, and III. They weren't satisfied with what they got, and wanted more. Well, watch IV, V, and VI and you get more.

I can't wait until Lucas gives us his overview of the "Star Wars Saga" with what I am sure will be a "Collector's Box Set" featuring all six films with more extras than we will ever know what to do with.

I, as a huge fan of the Star Wars Saga, am looking forward to this day when the Star Wars story is 'totally complete'. Already having a 'screener copy' of Chapter III I am enjoying watching the whole story on a regular basis, but November 1st is just weeks away and I will purchase my copy of "Star Wars III The Revenge of The Sith" at Wal-Mart to get the extra Bonus Disc, and probably double-dip and also buy a copy at Best Buy to get their bonus disc offer. Then I will just sit back until George Lucas decides the time is right and give us "The Complete Star Wars Saga - Chapters I - VI" with hours of 'never before seen' extras. Until then I will be a very happy Star Wars Clone.

Aside from the "Jedi" comment, are you sure UD's "The Lizard King" didn't write that? :P

I agree! I think many people over exagerate on how the prequels are horrible. I really enjoyed Clones and I loved Sith(even slightly better than Empire :shifty: ) because I looked at them as movies and didn't compare them to the originals. But no matter what, I can't appreatiate that disgrace called Phantom Menace! :P But still even I'll admit it wasn't the WORST movie ever made, heck I liked it better than chapters in other franchises like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Someone should change the title of this thread to 11/1/05. I don't know who thought it was going to be as late as November 8th.

Wal-Mart has the third bonus disc if you buy Star War III there.
Best Buy has the Darth Vader Lithograph
Circuit City has a bobble-head character
Suncoast Motion Picture Co. has a film cel
Good Guys has a bonus disc with twenty minutes of behind-the-scenes footage.

The Wal-Mart bonus disc features an hour-and-a-half flim on the "Story of Annakin Skywalker" as seen through the eyes of C3PO and R2-D2.

Get your money out.............Lucasfilms strikes again!!!

Much better list dvdjunkie.

Too bad that they are not releasing Episode I-III in a boxset. I was hoping for that. But you know that one day there will be a boxset of all 6.
