thatartguy, this screenshot actually looks like the Cinderella restoration, as if it's done with the program "paint". ;)

But seriously, I have a question. The Blu ray version will be High Defenition right? But the dvd version won't?

And what exactly did they do to an animated film to make it high def?

If Snow White comes out next year, are they going to add little details here and there because the def. is so high? I don't really understand.

All Blu Ray Players starting with profile 2.0 - onward come equiped with an ethernet output so that you may connect to the internet to download and use BD Live features, and get updates on your players firmware upgrades.

I don't think I'll be usuing many of the BD Live things, but of course I will check them out at least once ;)

Nice scans as usual, lighthousemike. I might consider upgrading from my old 2003 SE.

Marky, the DVD is not a High Definition format., so it can't be HD. The original film is (basically) already in HD, or else everything you see in the cinemas would be blurry. However since the capabilities of the DVD format is quite limited, the picture has to be compressed down to "standard definition", which is the quality you get now. So the difference in the BD and DVD isn't the content, it's the quality.

I'm sure someone more competent with this stuff will explain better/correct me

Thanks Yukitora!

I expect the Sleeping Beauty dvd to be really sharp and have real high quality, and I really wonder what the difference in quality will be between the Blu Ray and dvd as it's an animated film.
I would love to see the screenshot comparisons between the two.

Great photos Mike...now I can't wait to get Sleeping Beauty: PE.
I'm just glad some people can get it earlier before it hits street date.

Pinochio trailer
Very cool, thank you!! Hopefully we'll see some cover art soon. I'm guessing the official website will be up and running within a couple months.

pap64 wrote:One question about the Blu-Ray chat features.

Does this means that many Blu-Ray players come equipped with a modem for online access?

I know the PS3 is already online enabled, but I didn't known standard Blu-Ray players also had a modem.

Regarding the live chat feature: I know it seems obtrusive but I think its pretty neat.

One time, me and my best friend had this idea called "Alone Together Movie Night". The idea is that using a high speed internet connection, maybe a web cam, a chat room and maybe a telephone everyone connects at the same time and watches the movie from the comfort of their home, but since they are connect you can hear the comments and thoughts of the other members, meaning that you were alone, but at the same time together with your friends.

This feature takes our idea. Wouldn't it be cool to have the ultimate viewing party with the UD crew?
Wow that would be great, but do you guys think BD-live could work outside the states ? I use an NTSC PS3.

BTW just watched Pinocchio on youtube, does anyone know if Snow White is on the SB bluray/dvd ?

To answer Pap64's question, You need a Profile 2.0 player for BD Live. Currently most stand-alone blu-ray players are not Profile 2.0. Just do a little research before buying.

Here's a good link to start with (select Region A and Profile 2.0)

While Disney hasn't yet done any BD Live discs, Sony releases with BD Live released in the States do work outside the US (although you can't actually register as they ask for a ZIP Code and State) but you can still download trailers and exclusive features (I have several Walk Hard and Starship Troopers additional content downloaded on my PS3 from US discs)

Well, Disney may have another registration process. Universal do - I've already successfully signed up with Universal even though none of their BD Live content is/was live yet (its been a few days since I last looked)

You can pre-register for Universal here to reserve a screen name
http://www.universalhidef.com/

So who knows? I do know that Sleeping Beauty in the UK is listed as having BD Live, so I guess like Universal, the Disney registration process will not be country specific.

Am I the only one with zero interest in BD Live?

By far the most pointless thing ever.

Well, I can understand chatting etc not having much impact. But downloading extra content - be it small featurettes, trailers, poster art, commentaries... what's up with that?

And even the chatting is just "baby steps" towards something potentially bigger.

Thanks to lighthousemike for the screencaps. I just want to say that I went to YouTube, I found a user named "BestofDisney" that they upload the entire Disney animated films in multi parts. like "Peter Pan", "Cinderella" and many others. I trying to be aware that "BestofDisney" uploaded part one of a multi part video on "Sleeping Beauty", this film is early to be release until next week. I will not put a YouTube link for the film. I apologize for that. If they uploading the entire Disney film, they will end up getting suspended. Just be careful.

I just got to tell you does this film has the 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo or the old one? I remember seeing this one with the 1990 logo, but I hope they will do the same thing with the "101 Dalmatians" Platinum Edition DVD.

I'm going to share this one for lighthousemike if you haven't seen these, here are the two screencaps of what the logo looks like. First there is a 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo where it can be use for the "Sleeping Beauty" Platinum Edition DVD and it's in widescreen.

Image

Here is the 1990 logo taken from previous editions of "Sleeping Beauty" in both the 1997 VHS "Masterpiece" edition and the 2003 "Special Edition" DVD.

Which one do you prefer for the "Sleeping Beauty" Platinum Edition DVD?
