I'm sorry, but you post by "typing", not "talking". theres a big difference between talking and writing/typing.

And I suppose that you think a deaf person "signs" and doesn't "talk"...........wake up and smell the real world .... there are many forms of dialogue in this world and this is just one of them.

When you are on Instant Messenger or in a "chat" room, you are talking, not typing...............while you may be typing what you say, you are still "talking".

I'll get to my good friend dvdjunkie in a minute...

Be it "talking" or "typing", there is usually an unwritten rule for grammar netiquette. Now, many of us figure, "It's just a messageboard, I don't need to use grammar here", and some people go out of their way to misspell things. On other boards, I've seen "summen" for something, "cuz" for because, and "lmaoooooo" for laughing my ass off off off off off off. People are essentially lazy when it comes to typing, and naturally assume that the use of commas, periods, standard grammar symbols in general, is unnecessary.

But for some of us, we prefer to write as if we were talking, or as if we were reading dialogue in a book. The grammar is practically second nature to some of us, making it easier for us to say what we want to say, and easier for other people to read.

Posts that say stuff like "Hey guys I just got a dvd and it was great it was Smurfs on Ice and the video was great but I didnt like black bars it ruined the picture" is quite hard to understand. Could it hurt to actually think out what you write before throwing a splash of words into the text box?

Grammar, if anything, should be second nature to us in both actual dialogue spoken to words typed on a messageboard or a chatroom. Taking the easy way out and saying something like:

"I love this DVD and I will cherish it allmy life because I love this DVD you all need to get a life and which slipcover should I buy because I love slipcovers and some people here need to grow up and does ne1 know when SOTS comes to DVD cuz i love me my SOTS"

Is ridiculous.

People judge who you are by how you speak on a board, how you word things. Of course, English is a second language for some of us here, so it's understandable that their posts will be slightly less grammatical than regular English speakers. But quite simply, you know how to talk right. At least type it right as well.

And now, the part I'll most likely regret because it is saying that I hate dvdjunkie and the feeling is most likely mutual, but, dvdjunkie, for someone who said:
dvdjunkie wrote:ALAN, I thought we were supposed to be kind and not tell people to (get a life).
I specifically remember that you have told:

Me to get a life (Napoleon Dynamite thread)
Deathie to get a life (simultaneous DVD/Movie release thread)
Jayden to get a life (Song of the South thread

And at one point, all of us to get a life.

Pot calling the kettle black.

Than what would you like to call people who watch a lot of movies in theatre?
Alan, I think memnv was referring to the fact that at times, you refer to us as "you people". As if we were just a group, with one singular opinion that you wanted to hear from.

Example: (I'm not saying that I'm racist, just that this is a racial stereotype that perfectly embodies the use of the phrase "you people")

White Man to Black Man: You people are the reasons we have violence and crime and poverty in this great country of ours.

"You people" gives us one identity, rather than separate us. It's not exactly the nicest of terms, and while you were probably just using it to say "you guys", it's a small thing that most of us don't like to hear. "What do you people think I should but on DVD?" "What do you people do about your gas prices?" "What do you people do with your slipcovers?"

You know, in my 10 or so years using message boards....I noticed a trend.....Someone comes on and insults others, and they they disappear from that conversation when people stand up for themselves and make the attacker look childish...

And since we are quoting here...

Such was the case with the Dinosaur verses Land Before Time thread http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... 7&start=20. It just annoys me that someone comes on, insults everything, then when we make them sound like the jerk they are being, they don't come back to defend their ideas or better yet....appologize for their lack of maturity when using the forum.

What I've learned about people like this....its what they strive for in life. To annoy people with insults and then run away to go to another thread, to start more fights, and then when they create chaos, they are pointing the fingers everywhere else with "It wasn't me?/What did I do?/Why me?" kinda attitude.

But what would I know? I'm just 26, in dvdjunkie's world, I'm just too young to understand the world and how it works.

Well in that case, you don't know how to be kind, hypocrite. Look at your posts on page four and five of this thread.

Alan, don't try to waste your time proving memnv hasn't always been so nice. Afterall, he was the one who was temporarily banned for excessive and insensitive insulting. I figured a stipulation for his return would be a public apology to those he attempted to hurt. But instead, he's back to his old games. Again, calling the kettle black.

Face it everyone, at one point or another, we all have said something a little mean here (and no one dare say "No I didn't!" because I'll start searching everyone's posts!). So why don't we all just drop it, and accept the fact that not all of us are nice all the time, and not all of us are mean all the time. I can't exactly change dvdjunkie or his views, and Alan and Memnv can't change the way they hate each other. But let's not let that stop us from posting at UD.

I apologize for defending people. I can't even say defending my friends, because some people I defended, I consider aquanitices, or "they are okay". I don't pick and choose who I defend, but if I see someone it being put down for all the wrong reasons, I put aside the differences I had with them before and defend them But its what I do. I have never been BANNED for what I did, so I guess defending people isn't against the rules. You say its mean because I stick my nose in between arguments and try to point out why most of them are ridiculous to begin with. But you find a point where I called someone stupid, retarded, a fag, etc....go on and find one. I get into the middle of things because I am trying to HELP. I can't help it if when I am trying to help, its not trying to help YOU. I speak my mind yeah, and the result isn't always so nice, but I don't flat out insult people based on their religion, personality, or sexual preference.

AMEN!

I reallty doubt that any of us have even been always a nice person, we all have those "mean times" in this forum, and I agree with Escapay.

Some are meaner, some are meanless(does that word even exist? :? ) but we can always stop reading that person´s post and keep the talk about the main plot of the thread. Is not avoiding a fight, but just make a chat according to the thread.

Or if anyone wants so, we can do a "Battle Royale" thread so the people who have some troubles make their fight meanwhile we keep talking about anything else :P
