Something corny you might not have known:

Post by jabroni76 »

Taken from my "Daily Stupid Things" calander...:

When the producers of Toy Story were preparing to make that breakthrough animated film, they asked various manufactures if they could use their toys in the film. the one toy they couldn't land was the GI Joe.

"The company executives didn't want us inspiring kids to blow up GI Joe," explained Andrew Stanton, cocreator of Toy Story. "We tried to point out to them that if boys blew up their GI Joes, they'd have to buy new ones."

Instead, Toy Story used little green army men.

I heard something like this before somewhere. I think. I'm sensing deja vu. Anyways it's pretty amusing.

I love that. LOL!

I've also heard that Mattel wouldn't grant them permission to use Barbie in the first film. At one point late in the film, she was supposed to drive her Barbie Corvette or whatever and save the day, but since that had to be scrapped, they had to re-work the story. They said it turned out better because of it!

So the joke's on Mattel; when they saw how well Toy Story performed in the box office, they agreed when they were asked about the sequel. I love how Pixar made her a ditz.

None of the green army men were blown up during the movie (the closest thing to blowing up was when Andy's mom stepped on one). However, the toys DO watch Sid blow up a "Combat Carl."

This sounds similar to what happened when the producers of E.T. asked the M&M's company if they could use their candy in their movie and they refused because they thought the film would flop. They used Reese's Pieces instead and sales for that candy skyrocketed.

Not sure if sales of little green army men went up cause of Toy Story but hey. :p
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.
