How would YOU improve Disney World? Thoughts?

Post by IggieKuzco »

walt disney world is incredible- nothing like it on the planet... but still... there's plenty of stuff i would change\add

okay, first of all... what is most needed in my opinion... is more disney themed rides. like splash mountain, swiss family treehouse, buzz lightyear space ranger spin and its tough to be a bug
disney is getting the right idea with Stitch's great escape, even though the loss of alien encounter is a real shame... seing that i never got to ride it...
the reason i think this is is because when people come to disneywolrd- they want to be immersed in disney! to feel like they're living the movie! not anything you could find at any other theme park! the rides should be all themed from the movies as if you are now a part of them.
now, of course there are the rides like snow white, winnie the pooh, peter pan, mad tea party, cinderellas carousel, and dumbo which are wonderful- and im not at all implying that they be taken away- just, i think that there should be more theme rides that are more then just riding around a building looking at cutout scenes from a movie or going just simply going around. it should be more exciting- more realistic, more variety then that. what i mean is- take somthing from the movie, and turn it into a ride! for example:there are so many alice in wonderland rides that could have been so much more creative then the mad tea party in magic kingdom... for example,a painting the roses red sort of laser tag game or miniature golf course themed appropriatly to the croguet scene, a water ride theme for the movie starting off with goin through the door floating on alice's tears and through the jolly courcus race and then maybe taking you on a tour of wonderland, maybe letting you off in a "honey i shrunk the kids movie set" type themed playground of wonderland....or in the clock scene in the great mouse detective where they're trapped inside the clock and trying to run away from the dials and such could easily be made into a ride! or of course, the roller coaster in the emperors new groove is a more then obvious set-up for-guess what- an actual rollercoaster! how about an oliver and company themed tour of new york ride?or gliding through trees like tarzan on a styled coaster... also shows! the shows could be so interestingly themed! for example an aristocats jazz performance, mulan fireworks, or a brother bear light show which could be like the very impressive one in the movie! the lists are endless...

next issue:
the merchendise that is sold in disneyworld is just plain boring.
i was expecting- (being at the disney capitol of the world) that i'd be surrounded by all kinds of different themed merchendise from all the disney movies and i'd end up leaving disney with so much movie parafanaillia i wouldnt have where to put it.

oh how wrong i was.
the merhcendise was just downright dissapointing...
how the crap can there be basically no alice in wonderland lady and the tramp jungle book or any other disney classic merchendise whatsoever??! i even had a hard time finding lion king merch for my sister if you could believe that!
it's just unbelieveble that you go to Walt Disney World and seems as if they've forgotten 95% of their movies! and thats only animated movies yes? anyway... basically what they did was basically break it down to six selling groups:

-Mickey and Friends
-Disney Princesses
-Villians
-Pixar
-Winnie the Pooh
-Pins

where are all the disney characters other then that? i guess we'll never know.
okay, mickey and friends is perfectly find... after all it is mickeyland... moving on...
Disney Princesses okay... dont get me started.... they are just too overdone. i mean... how much crap can these people sell to parents whose little girls just HAVE to have it? it's insane... and it just gets me pissed.
Villians okay... cool idea. but the problem is, you got your villian and then your thinking: okay... no where's the hero? or any other character from the movie for that matter! disney scored on that one that evryone loves the villian but it still leaves you longing for the other great elemnts of every movie that there is no mention of anywhere!
okay... pixar actually there isnt too much mention of so it's not overdone, and its there- available if you want.. so thats great! but why can you get these and not the classic 2D disney movies??
Winnie the Pooh[/b}... i must say. disney does know where the selling points are, becase everyone loves the hundred acre wood gang... perfectly nice... lots of cute t-shirts...
[b}Pins[/b[ oh the pins.... the horrible horrible pins. the disney company are just moneymaking geniouses. getting people to collect somthing that costs 8 bucks and wayyy way up is just brilliant. and i must say, the pins werent even that great. pretty crappy selection... again... looking to get my sister a lion king pin- no plain one available... the only one i found was at the center pin station in downtown disney and i'd after to make it yah. right. plus it costs more money!! so.. so much for that idea.
personally, i woul dhave much preffered if they had made a big deal out of the trading card buisness. seems much more fun and much less pricy. but pricy is the key word in disney merchendise, which is why we're all doomed to empty our wallets to the magical moneymaking scheme of disney.
and other then that... zilch! nada!! nothinnnggg!! i mean i can understand them not selling too much less wanted merch at the minor stores... like the hotel gift shops (which still were pretty damn big i must admit) or the little store inside the parks themselves... but when i went to the big disney store in downtown disney i expected a little somthing! but noooo... just all the regular crap- only in huge amounts.

after all that.... i just have to say- i walked out of disneyworld myself with a kuzco plush, a villians t-shirt, a grumpy hat, a mickey shaped bottle opener (cause everyone has to buy somthing mickey), a "dogs of disney" picture frame magnet, and- i have to admit this {gulp}- three disney pins  :P :D...

okayyyyy! next subject i want to bring up: stage shows
i havent seen that many of the disney stage shows myself, but the impression i get is that they're all short 25 minute fast paced versions of the movies excluding most of the scenes and only leaving the major ones only very necessary to the story. correct?
anyway, my thoughts on this is maybe to bring in actual full length versions of the plays... for example the broadway versions of lion king and beauty and the beast... it doesnt even have to be in the parks (though that would seem more fun to me)... they could put it in downtown disney and make a hellofalot of money off of it!

and final topic, those great little details disney sticks everywhere.
the attention to detail. them magical moments from the movies that are sprinkled around the park. the artifacts that remind you suddenly of a disney movie and t\it just leaves you with a good feeling for the rest of the day. like seeing the sword in the stone, or belle's little fountain, or when i was there they had a big plaque of rutt and tuke and there was a recording of them talking among themselves.. dont know if its still there...even the big things like cinderellas castle :)... these are the things that basically make disneyworld disneyworld. forget all the rides and shows and everything (well, just for now dont actually forget them... just for now), it's the disney magic. and all i can say i want to impove about this is more! more!
disneyworld needs more of these things because this is where the magic comes from! everything should make you remember all about growing up with these movies... and showing you what you came here for.
i know it sounds all mushy and i sound like a disneyworld somthing or other telling you to have a "magical day" but in this case... i couldnt agree more.

wow is anybody gonna read all that? oh well whatever i just had to let it out.... exhausting but refreshing.... :P

enjoy! :D

oh yes... and my closing words: i love you disneyworld! you're the best! keep up the good work :D:D:D

What?

Did you go to the marketplace? You could spend an entire day there, very overwhelming. They have quality merchandise from ALL movies, ranging from the reasonably priced to the very expensive. It changes all the time. You could spend a fortune there if money were no object :)

Never been to Disney World, but I'm an avid Disneyland visitor, so I'll offer my thoughts on that. There are many ways to improve the CA park, but I'll just mention the main big one:

REVAMP TOMORROWLAND
Right now, this section of the park is a complete dump. It has no overall theme like it used to, and instead just feels like a patchwork of space-related stuff. Half of the area is being completey unused, with the space for the submarines and the people mover lying desolate. Plus, half of the attractions are stuff that hardly anyone goes to: Innoventions (a really sucky version of something at Epcot), Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, and yes, Star Tours. Plus, the place is just ugly - after they redesigned it in 1998, it looked bad enough, but since then, they've added completely out-of-place designs. The whole area is very un-pleasing to the eye, and thanks to the poor redisign, its hard to even get around.

All this means that the place is a wasteland. I've been going to Disneyland frequently over the past 2 years, and every time, Tomorrowland is near empty. There's many things they need to do to improve the land, but the first thing they need to do is brink back old rides and revamp some of the ones that are already there.

Wow, that's quite a commentary. I like the pins somewhat, but, as someone else asked, did you go to Downtown Disney? There is a lot of shopping to do there. Last time I was at disney, the bean bags were all the craze, and they had ones from every single movie imaginable.
I like how the rides are themed already. It would be cool to have a Kuzco (or Home on the Range or Monster's inc) roller coaster, but think of the additional space it'd take up. They'd have to move the railroad to allow it in. If they took out something, a lot of people (myself included) could complain...like the loss of Mr Toad's WIld Ride.

I could sit here all day and talk about DisneyWorld....i just love it!

The thing with ther merchandise is....is that its good but Disney need to realise that there are other characters such as the classics. The thing is i love the merchandise due to i love Tigger and Stitch so i have no problems picking what to buy and what to get on my next trip as theres soooo much.... :D

Your talking about the attractions, what i would love is if they would create something like Mission Space BUT if they made it to fit a film, although from what i have heard theres going to be an amazing Incredibles ride coming sometime....!!! :) Check out the forums at www.wdwmagic.com its one of the biggest disney world fansites out there and a great forum! :D

I think that in disney, they should put more items or places themed to Fantasia. It might sound crazy, but I think more Fantasia things should be around. Ive been to Fantasia Gardens, which is probably one of my most favorite places in all of disney world, but everything else Fantasia-themed is like a tiny, microscopic gift shop in a resort or a tiny food stand. They originally had an idea to put a Fantasia boat ride in Disney, kind of like a tunnel of love, and through every tunnel, it's a different theme, but they scrapped the idea some time ago.

i heard that the original idea for fantasmic was a live stage version of fantasia... and i thought that the idea for that would be incredible... and i was pretty dissapointed that it turned out not to be... even though fantasmic was amazing...

When Downtown Disney first opened (and was a bit smaller), it was called the Disney Marketplace. Hope that fixes any confusion! :tink:

It was called the Disney Village at one stage too.

Now Downtown Disney has three sections: Marketplace, Pleasure Island and West Side.

Never been so I really can't say. I've actually lost interest in going. I know that sounds bad but I'm really losing interest in anything that will make me have any kind of fun. :headshake:

Oh maybe the price. I heard it's not so cheap. There's something you can complain about if you haven't gone.

soooooooo much I could say in this topic, but...

I mostly agree with IggieKuzco as far as rides and Disneyisms and stuff in the park. Everytime I watch Disney movies I think of how great a ride it could be. Like the scene in a Bug's Life where its all foggy and Dot is running away from the mad crazy grasshopper. That would be awesome! Though I think in CA Adventure they have A Bug's Land with little kiddie A Bug's Life themed rides.
Anyhow, the foreign Disney parks have more stuff and I think they overall do a better job in themeing the environments and detailing things (especially the Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea). I would love a Cinderella Castle mystery tour with an audioanimatronic full sized dragon like in Paris and Tokyo! Also more little things like more Disney characters in different parts of Disney World. E.g. A Mulan attraction or show at Epcot's China or the Pinnochio ride at Disneyland put in Epcot's Italy or the Snow White musical at Disneyland put in Epcot's Germany or a Beauty and the Beast ride in Epcot's France. WIth the countries and many cultural Disney movies, new attractions are oh so possible.

Also in Animal Kingdom, there was plans for a Beastly Kingdom as one of the lands (which is why there was a dragon in the AK logo). There were plans for mythical creatures so Hercules and Pegasus and all them would have a land and also dragons and other fantasy creatures. Maybe they could put Maleficient's Forbidden Mountains and have a dragon coaster! Speaking of new lands, there were also plans for a Villains land (and also separate park) what would be put being Fantasyland like Toontown is behind Fantasyland at DL. Captain Hook's Jolly Roger and Skull Rock would be wonderful additions to Adventureland and they should restore the Hunchback show at MGM. It was my favorite of the MGM shows (even more than BatB) and didn't seem to fast and short like the Voyage of the LIttle Mermaid. Speaking of that, the waiting area is great for this attraction! It didn't focus mainly on the movie, but had "artifacts" from seaships and life at the sea docks and thematic stuff like that.

This post is getting really long, so I'll stop now :) .

I also think they need to start working on incorporating the Beastly Kingdom into the park. It's about time, and I think it would make a wonderful addition.

I've never ben to Disney World (sadly--yes, I cry) but I have been to Disneyland and my main complaint is the ticket price. They're pretty insane and one of the reasons a poor college kid like me (and my friends) can't go--we wouldn't be able to eat anything or buy merchandise and that would suck! ;)

So basically, if ticket prices were lower, I would probably have something more that I wish they would change (the last time I went in '03 was during Grad Nite and many things were closed so I can't really comment).
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.
