Disney cartoon about London Bridge, etc.

Post by Mouseketodd »

Does anyone remember the cartoon that told the stories behind certain nursery rhymes, like "London Bridge is falling down?" I think that a trio of minstrels appeared throughout the cartoon, probably reciting the rhymes.

Was this cartoon a part of any larger collection (like what Walt did with "Make Mine Music" and "Melody Time"), or was it made especially for the Disneyland TV show?

Does anyone recall what rhymes were in the cartoon?

I believe you're talking about the featurette "The Truth About Mother Goose." I don't recall offhand if it was theatrically released, but I'm sure it was part of one of the "Walt Disney Presents"-type shows.

The only segment I can really remember was about "Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?" It's been years since I've seen it. Seems like they used to occasionaly show it on Disney Channel as filler.

There are some Silly Symphonies with nursery rhymes in them such as Mother Goose Melodies, Old King Cole, and Mother Goose Goes Hollywood I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about or not.

No, Sunset Girl have right!
It´s The Truth About Mother Goose that you remember.
The nurserymes included in it are:
Mary, Mary Quite Contrary
Little Jack Horner
London Bridge

It was premiered in cinema, not made for the TV-shows, even that it certainly have been shown there also!

The Truth About Mother Goose was a 1957 Special short. It was nominated for an Academy Award. It was shown as part of the TV series The Wonderful World Of Color with the same title as the short in 1963, hosted by Ludwig Von Drake.
