The "Just Wondering? / Your Disney Story..." thread (topics are also called threads) is the place where all new members introduce themselves, and tell the story of their Disney history, if they like. One of the board's moderators probably merged your first thread with the already existing one, which is where it should be. Hope that helps. Welcome to the boards! :)

Alot of ours started as one disc also, so maybe they will eventually make them 2-disc sets for Italy too.

Hmm.. my Disney story? (new member as well) Let's see... I can actually remember watching Bambi with my Grandparents when it came out in theatres in the 80s... for the Special Edition or something.

Also, as far as I can remember, my parents always took me to Disneyland. Kids as young as 2 or 3 were free so we went every month when everyone else was in school. So we basically had the park to ourselves. Years later we bought the Disneyland Passports and I make a point to visit Disneyland whenever I come home from school. Yah, I even memorized the park layout... ask me anything! I can lead you there. ;-)

Ever since then, I was a Disney fan! I own every single animated movie (except for one or two) since Snow White. I also own every single animated soundtrack (not CGI) since The Little Mermaid. Whenever the Disney logo starts up, I think of TLM.

Favorite movies include ALADDIN! Bambi and The Emperor's New Groove. I am excited about Bambi coming out on DVD and I can't wait for TLM to come out as well.

George from CZ

Post by vojna »

Hi. My name is George and Im from PRAGUE in the CZECH REPUBLIC.
Im 24 years old and Im studing diplomacy and international relations at the University in Prague.

The first Disney Classic I had seen was "CINDERELLA". It was in about 1986 or 1987 and I it touched me for the rest of my life.

To buy a Disney movie was not possible in Czechoslovakia before the year 1995. Czechoslovakia was part of the Soviet Block and separated from the western world by THE BERLIN´S WALL.

In early 80´s almost everybody in Czechoslovakia owned the VCR. And because there were no VHS rentals people have to borrow video tapes from other people. That is how the "CINDERELLA" found her way to me.

Because of the video tape, the picture quality was very poor. But the sound was perfect. It was dubbed in slovak language and BELIEVE me, CINDERELLA in Slovak is even better then the original. All the songs and all the rhymes!!! Ohhh!!! :D

In Czech Republic we even have a special slang word for Disney classics. We call them "disneyovka". If you say this one word, everybody will know that you mean one of the great classics like Cinderella, Snow White or Little Mermaid.

First movie available to buy on VHS was POCAHONTAS in 1995. I was surpriesed. Because everybody told me (even the film distributor infolines) that DISNEY will never release any Disney classics in the Czech or Slovak Republic, because of the size of the potential market. (in 1993 Czechoslovakie as divided into two different countries - Czech Republic and Slovak Republic). Today I know that it was a lie.

And today I own almost all the released Disne classics on DVD. I guess that im the only one with such a huge collection in Czech or Slovak Republic. If it isnt so! I would be great to hear...

Hi RJKD23! :D

All DVD´s sold in Czech Republic or Slovak Republic are REGION 2. All the releases are similar to those from the UK or France, except the language.

Hi all!

Well, I'm fairly new to this forum. I was directed to this message, and decided to post my own Disney story.

I've loved Disney movies ever since I was a kid, and my parents took us (myself and my two sisters) to only one movie in the theatre a year, and it was always the Disney release of that year. My earliest memory of any movie in the theatres is "The Little Mermaid" (I was 7 at the time), which has become one of my favorite movies of all time.

I bought a few on VHS, but we had a lot taped off of TV specials on VHS and Beta, and myself and my sisters watched them ad nauseum. Many of those tapes are in such bad shape that they are unwatchable any more.

The advent of DVD really saw the start of my real collection, even though it probably pales in comparisson to some of the other members here.

My Collection currently includes (don't worry, the list isn't very long): Alice In Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition, Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition, Beauty And The Beast: Platinum, Aladdin: Platinum, The Lion King: Platinum, The Emperor's New Groove, Mulan: Special Edition, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and the Walt Disney Treasures releases of: Mickey Mouse In Black And White Volume 2, Mickey Mouse In Living Colour Volume 2, and On The Front Lines

My collection is going to keep building, no doubt, and I watch these movies a lot with my girlfriend. We both never tire of watching them.

Just a short background on me: I live in the Capital city of Canada, and am in my last year of a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Degree from Carleton University.

Anyways, sorry for the long introduction. I really look forward to posting here and meeting fellow Disneyphiles!
Cheers!

I intro was even longer :) Welcome to the boards I am kinda new myself I have some of the titles you have plus more :) I have all the Walt Disney Treasures I make sure I get them all. Tommorland might be my favorite I would have even got 2 of them ( one to keep nice and one to use more ) but since its a limited edition I did not because I don't want to stop someone from getting one who does not have one if you see what I mean ?

That's really thoughtful of you! Unlike those that ruthlessly scoop up 100 copies of the Treasures releases just so they can sell them for $150 on Ebay.

Before anybody jumps up and yells at me. Those who pick up a few copies to resell (especially those available on the trade boards) are not in the same boat, as those here reasonably price theirs. That's what I like about you guys, you don't ruthlessly scoop up 100 copies and set the price at an unreasonable level! You know the true meaning of being a Disney fan!
Cheers!

Hey everyone. Never noticed there was an official introduction thread! So I'll re-introduce myself after 70 posts...

My name is Raz, I'm 15 years old (almost 16) from Israel. I've always loved Disney (Mickey was my first word  ) but only after a recent visit to Disney World I was reminded how much I love Disney.

My hobby of collecting the movies on DVD is a new thing. I started back in November when I bought the Aladdin Platinum Edition. Since then I've been having this strange urge to buy more releases and now I'm an official addict! :P

Here's my list. My signature has the name of the titles I plan on buying later this year:
- Aladdin
- The Lion King
- Mulan
"See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve." - The Joker

Hey Raz, welcome (even though you've posted lots already!):D
My situation with becoming a DVD collector started off like yours...you buy one Disney movie, then you realize, you'd have to get them all!

Same. It started with Pocahontas and I'm sorry to say (or glad to say, depending on your take) that it didn't stop there.

And hello to all the people whose posts got lost somewhere deep within this thread and so I didn't get to greet! <3
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.
