I have no memory of the first disney movie I saw, because I have older brothers and they had lots of DVDs, its impossible for me to remember. Although I was a big Peter Pan fan.

First Disney movie in theaters, Beauty and The Beast, or so Im told.
But I do remember seeing Aladdin in theaters, and almost everything after.
After many short films, she's finally getting her own....
MINNIE MOVIE

After finding that there's something there, he found something more....
BEAUTY IS THE BEAST

In theaters, it was "The Lion King" (I've seen all the features in theaters since then... actualy, I usually go to see them a lot of times!).
On video, it was "Beauty and the Beast".

Yes, I'm young! :)

I don't remember my first Disney movie, but I do remember the first Disney movie I ever got on DVD which was Pinocchio!!!!

the first movie in theater for me was (i only know the dutch title )
Taran en de toverketel in 1985.
Walt Disney's 25 classic cartoon

And my firts owned movie was bambi
the latest one in my colection is Fun and FancyFree2003

That would be The Black Cauldron here in America. I've never seen it - is it any good? I never had a desire to see it, because I loved the books and it seemed like Disney added silliness to it that Lloyd Alexander didn't have in his books.

hi
i did not know there is a book of this story.
in the movie it's about a boy who lives in the land Predanië and he has a magic sweard. he needs to find a magic "pan" to beat an evil king. together with a princes Elonie and a sort dog named Gorgi. a little pig who is seeing this helps them. the redline of this story is FRIENDSHIP.
it's a mix of peter pan and merlin the wizard.

it is a classic

maybe this will help anyone to findout the real name of the movie

I´m not very sure, but i think that the first Disney movie i saw on screen was a re-release of Robin Hood, around 1986. I love specially this film.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

Are you trying to say I'm silly by calling me Hooky?!?! :evil: How DARE you!!! :wink:

Anyway, yeah, the Horned King looked cool, but the pig looked dumb and Gurgi changed from being a monkey-gorilla type dude to a dog...

Now that I think about it, I thought that Treasure Planet looked dumb, and I loved it, so maybe Black Cauldron will be the same... Is the Gold Collection DVD worth renting, or should I just get the VHS copy?

Yes it is... I mean, the movie was produced in CinemaScope. You dont want pan-&-scan crap, do you? :) The DVD also has a very nice gallery and a threatrical trailer.

Okay, that's good to know. The reason I asked is becaues the VHS copy of Pocahontas was better than the DVD version - it wasn't in widescreen but it was much less grainy and a better color quality.

I now really want to see Black Cauldron! I'll go rent it sometime.

That is really weird about the crappy Pocahontas quality on the DVD. I noticed it too, there are bootleg DVDs out there that are better.

Black Cauldron was one of Disney's stranger Animated Classics... it just has a very different feel than all the others. It's definitely interesting to see although you may not like it.

Just a side note on this film and other from that time period and before. Has anyone else noticed that the Disney animated films from the 1970's and early 80's have really weird sound? It sort of sounds like it is muffled or something, I don't know. I just noticed that they sound different for some reason. Anyone else notice it?

The first disney movie that I saw in theatres is, I believe, The Little Mermaid, but I don't remember, I would have been 3, but I definately remember seeing The Rescuers Down Under in theatres...

Not sure what my very first disney movie was thought... Maybe the one I first saw in theatres :?

I haven't noticed it in 70s/80s movies, but I haven't bought any on DVD yet. My parents have Aristocats and Robin Hook on VHS, and they are fine sounding to me. I plan on buying Rescuers soon; does it have really bad sound? I read somewhere that it has HORRIBLE picture quality, is that true?

The Rescuers was fine on DVD. You misunderstand me just a lil here... when I mentioned the sound quality, I didn't mean the DVDs. I mean teh films in general... they always just seemed to have this odd muffled sound to me. Whether in the the theater or on VHS or DVD, the sound in the animated films during that time period is just... different. Not sure why!

Well, I'm not sure why... I love most of the animated flicks in the 70s and don't really care if the sound is different than most.

Hmmm...just got me thinking...

My sister was digging up for old tapes to reuse, and she managed to find our copy of Robin Hood that my cousin had given to us...and when we played it, the sound was definitely softer than what we were used to from the average Disney film...

I actually can`t remember the first ever Disney movie I saw in the theater, but I remember seeing Lion King in 94 though..
But I`m sure I saw some before that.
The first ever I also don`t know..?
But Alice in wonderland, Robin Hood and Oliver & company is
some of the early memories I have!

Wow, I can tell I am older than most of you here! My first Disney movie that I remember being taken to see was probably Song of the South. This would have been when it was in re-release in the late 1960's-early 1970's. I do know that I fell asleep during the movie as I remember my mother waking me up to leave!

I was never really into Disney as a child-I became a HUGE Disney fan as an adult.

Sure wish I could see Song of the South again on the big screen. At that age, I didn't realize what a masterpiece it was and now, that masterpiece is locked away. Really sad. :(
