Donald's TV Theme

Post by edigrieg »

I'm searching for the cartoon where Donalds TV tune was used the first time. (Who's got the sweetest disposition ... one guess guess who, aso.)

The oldest cartoon in my collection with that tune is "Wide open spaces" from 1947, while "Clown of the jungle" (same year) has the old fashion melody. But there are three cartoons between them and I have them on tape only in a cut version.

Has somebody some of that three cartoons in full lengh on Video/DVD and can tell me ?

- Donald's dilemma (Donald robs the money from his nephews piggy bank)
- Crazy with the heat (Donald & Goofy lost in the desert)
- Bootle Beetle (Donald tries his luck as bug collector)

thanx in advance

Both Donald's Dilemma and Bootle Beetle have the "Who's got the sweetest disposition..." song.

Crazy With the Heat has this Goofy theme:

So I guess that Donald's Dilemma would be the cartoon you're looking for, right?

On the other hand, have you considered that:
a) Perhaps they alternated between different theme songs, and occasionally went back to older songs, even after a new song had been introduced?
b) Perhaps the same cartoon can have different theme songs in different release versions?

I honestly don't know, but someone else might be able to answer that!

They may also have been produced in a different order than the order in which they were released.

Yes this could be. But for the Pluto cartoons there was a complete change to his new tune in 1947 and now I see the same was done to the Donald tune the same year. I'm just curious about that.

OK, my research is done.

As I said in another topic, the DT "The Complete Pluto" ends with the last cartoon with Pluto's old tune. IF (!) Disney do the same to the next Donald volume, it would end with "Clown of the jungle" from 1947. So here is my guess :

"The Chronological Donald Vol.2" includes all official DD-cartoons from "Village Smithy" to "Clown of the Jungle", including ALL Wartime cartoons, even "The Fuehrer's face". That comes to a total of 35 shorts.

Checking Vol.1, it has also 35 shorts plus the "Volunteer Worker" as bonus. Just speculation, but I love that kind of research 8)
