Why Disney stopped with the white cases?

In the past these movies stood out thanks to the huge white plastic cases.

During the DVD era Disney made white cases for their DVD's and then stopped, if I remember well Lilo & Stitch was the first one to come in the black case (aside from the 2 disc sets).

Why Disney stopped all of a sudden?

And why didn't make white cases for even the 2 disc sets?

Right now, the only way that I can make my Disney movies stand out from the rest is by this:

Well since i live in the UK we get dark blue cases for Disney Dvds, i like them!

The only logic reason is that they got a better price from someone on those.

They still use white keepcases, depending on the title. Usually, you'll see DTVs or DVDs aimed at children with them (I guess white attracts kids more than black ). Recent examples: Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers and Classic Cartoon Favorites.

The bigger concern should be. Will all of the black keepcases now have those annoying side snaps?!

side snaps are so ANNOYING!
they're on the top and bottom of the side of the DVD case where it opens.
if you don't have it, consider yourself lucky.
those stupid side snaps are going to break eventually if people keep opening their DVD to watch it.

Disney should change back all their DVDs to white, but then again...
i've never seen a 2-disc white DVD case.

That would be really cool. I, Robot has a case like that, and it's really quite nice looking. I was very surprised to find the side snaps with Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas and then again with Mary Poppins. They're extremely annoying because not only is it an extra step to get to your DVD, but since I'm not used to them (only a couple of my DVD's have them), I keep opening the cases the traditional way out of habit which can potentially break the case.

If you read the instructions on the side-tabs, they actually do tell you to twist them and break them off. (Amendment: Well it does on the Paramount cases anyhow).

As for clear cases, most UK discs have them. But not Disney ones (however, other Buena Vista releases do). It means you don't need an insert. At last, no missing insert worries!

i hate the side snap case also, they suck, as soon as i buy the movie, i brake them off. for those of you who have not seen them, i still have Shrek 2 witht he side snap.

See..it looks incomplete when you take away the Side Snap!
For some of our DVDs (or rather the ones we watch the most), I just changed them back to regular black DVD cases.
Although now I'm thinking I should change all our DVD cases to clear!

that way, I can tell which DVDs are ours...and to be unique.

it's an expensive idea! and impossible because there are no clear cases for DVDs such as Atlantis Collector's, Tarzan Collector's, and Emperor's Groove Collector's.

It stops thieves from slitting the wrapper down the side with a razor and getting the discs out.

Now the cases have have all of the side security seal/sticker physically removed or else you can't open the side-snaps, and although not a major obstacle in itself, it makes it harder to steal discs. It's an extra step.

maybe to keep young kids out of them. when shrek 1 came out, i had a cousin who was 1 or 2 years old, and she scratched disc one. half way the movie it stops playing, good thing shrek had 2-disc with both having the movie, so i wasn't as mad about it. but that is my quess to make it harder for them to open the box, but in my hiuse we have no young kids, so i hate the side snap.

what is funny (not that funny) is that every tuesday on new release day at Walmart, i always find atleats one opened dvd box case somewhere in the store. i am surprised no one has stopped them.

I haven't seen a white DVD case in a long time! My Stuart Little I case is red and my Stuart Little II case is blue. All of the other cases in my collection are black with no side snaps.

My Simba's Pride VHS case is white.

As it's already been stated, the color of the case seems to depend on the release.

On a side note, I hate those danm pesky side-snappers as well. They're ugly and serve virtually no purpose except to break off when you forget the case has them and try and open them the usual way. I've never had a DVD case fall open on me so I see no point in having them now. Perhaps they should focus more on disc hubs that won't beak off?
