Has Anyone Else Noticed ... (Ads Below)

Post by indianajdp »

One of the Google Ad links that pops up (right after you submit a post) is a link to a site called DVDs2You...and they are advertising the Limited Edition Little Mermaid DVD for $13.99??

Aside from the fact that I think this is definitely too good to be true...and nevermind the fact that I know absoultely nothing about the site...I'm kind of tempted here.

I need someone else to look at that listing and tell me what I'm missing. There's gotta be something in the text or description that tips off it's not what I think it is.

And look what else I found there:

Yeah, there's one for the UK (I must be getting it becuase I have a UK IP address) advertising The Little Mermaid for £11.99

And it has the disclaimer "special features may vary from those advertised for R1 or R2" or something.

To be honest, I'm prepeared to give them the benefit of the doubt (some of the wording makes me think that they are importing legitimate R3 DVDs, which can be dual encoded for R2 as well - but I'm not sure what Disney does with their R3 encoding). http://www.dizzydvds.co.uk/

But the Lion King has not be released on DVD anywhere in the world!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Lion King is a bootleg. I've seen titles from Paramount and Universal carrying the same DTS and widescreen logos. (Bootleg titles from Paramount and Universal movies that it).

Eh, well I'm not crazy about them bootlegs showing up. I can remove them from the list of sites that advertise if you guys would like that. I pretty much assumed Little MErmaid DVD for $13.99 would be bootleg.

But clicking to see for yourself is good. ;)

of course I clicked luke! ;)

And umm... I read the FAQ, and said that they are real copies, but they don't come in their original case, and are missing the chapter insert, unless it is stated, which, for the Mermaid is true...

The old "missing the chapter insert" line, huh. That's about as good as plastering a "DVD5" or "DVD9" on the cover. Or misspelling the studio name and/or the movie title. Or calling them "official Asian imports."

Hi:
Im new around here and I am not an expert. I saw the same thing, what tipped me off was the "ALL REGION" Part of it. Its my understanding that the real L. M. is Region ONE

POCO:
Thanks
I will say that I bought one copy on Ebay for $15.
The seller says thats the real one. I will confirm as soon as I receive it.
Not bad for $15 if its the real thing.
Also, Im trying to locate a GOOD checklist of all the anime movies.
I do see them in parts like Anime and then Direct to DVD, etc. Does anybody knows of a complete list thats easier to keep up with?
Thanks in advance

i hate when people sell bootlegs and i also hate piracy because that isnt fair to those people who created the films that people watch. i prefer to see movies in theaters so that certain movies have a good record in the box office. man i hope Finding Nemo beats The Lion King so it can become the Biggest animated box-office hit of all time, and also #9 in the US All Time Grossing Movies.

Actually, funny you should say that....
I followed one of the links to dvd2you.net which has lots of the OOP titles (Mulan, Little Mermaid, Jungle Book). DVD-9 came up a lot, and the covers on many of the discs were VERY different (see Lilo and Stitch and Milo Returns as examples, the latter actually looking kinda cool)

Just a head's up, I'd be shocked if you get something real. I don't think you'd find anyone with a legit Little Mermaid Limited Issue DVD willing to part with it for just $15. I hope I'm wrong and you do get the real deal, but I doubt you will.

Not a factor for me since I generally purchase most of my dvds through retail, Ebay or the general farmiliar web based companies (CDUniverse, Amazon, DVDPassion, DVDNow, etc) but why not plug ad links to legitimate online retailers as opposed to companies which seem somewhat questionable in regards to selling pirated discs or other region imports as it would suck to have a registered member who might not be aware of such factors or just some random lurker browsing these forums, follow the ads and make regrettable purchases. I know I'd be able to tell the difference before buying such products but perhaps 2 years back, when I was new to this whole dvd market, I'd probably be much more succeptable to purchasing such dvd's and upon recieveing them, I'd probably be pretty dissapointed. Personally, I think it would probably reflect a lot better on the website as well, since this is Disney media related, to feature ad links exclusively to honest region 1 and/or UK, Australian, etc based dvd retailers upon other things. Just a friendly suggestion Luke...

Ads from legitimate retailers don't pay for clicks. That's the only reason. Plus none of the affiliate ads from legitimate retailers - Half.com, DMC, Amazon.com, co.uk, .fr, .ca, Buy.com, BestBuy.com - are generating money lately. And the site costs money. And time - which is money.

Hate to say it but I agree completely. More than likely it'll be a import or bootleg of some sort, although I truly hope for your sake it's not. Although who knows...maybe the person has 50 coipes lying around and has no problems letting them go way under market (eBay) value.

I will post as soon as I receive it.
If is not good, ohh well, at least is not a $50.00 mistake.
I hope I can get good quality so I can enjoy it, then buy the real thing and sit on it for later generations.
Thanks for all the feedbacks.

Interesting technical specifications for The Lion King DVD. DTS? Cool. :)

Here's what the site says:
Video Format : Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 - NTSC - Color
Audio Tracks :
- DTS : English
- Dolby Digital Surround 5.1 : English
Subtitles : English, Chinese, Thai, Bahasa (Close Captioned)
The Little Mermaid DVD comes with chapter inserts. Yay!

That's what I'd like to know :P But I think it's reason enough to assume this is a bootleg
