Audio Commentary on R1 Sleeping Beauty

Post by Luke »

This is news to me - the Press Release made no mention of this and the R2 discs didn't have any, as far as I know.

Cool. I'm glad I'm getting this after all - it will be my 4th version of Sleeping Beauty! :) None of the international versions have a commentary - but I've always been hoping for one on the US disc.

Looks like this is the Platinum release - there's nothing new they could add now.

Except some self-promotional feature on Disney through the years or other Disney films. ;)

Don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd put my money on animation historian/NYU Film Chairman John Canemaker and maybe Roy Disney?

Could be - or it could be 'reconstructed' Walt Disney audio interviews like on Snow White and Fantasia. Wasn't Sleeping Beauty Walt's favorite film?

Most likely it will be a little of all three; John Canemaker & Roy and Walt Disney.

Oooh, I'm so glad it's got commentary! Looks like 2099's right; this has everything you could want on a platinum release without it actually being platinum-commentary, featurette, virtual galleries, games, etc. If the actual platinum release only adds a stupid promotional spot or something I'm definitely sticking with the SE, despite it not having the platinum banner. Do you guys think the fact that the Sleeping Beauty special edition has commentary a sign that Alice in Wonderland and Pocahontas special editions will one, too?

I think the Pocahontas LD has a commentary (plus an Audio essay as well on the real Pocahontas) so I would say yes for that.

Based on them doing a new commentary for Sleeping Beauty, I think it's likely Alice will have one too.

The "Four Artists Paint One Tree" and "Peter Tchaikovsky" story which are on the set originate from Disneyland don't they? Were that from this episode? Or part of others?

I also think the documentary has some clips and some of the small featurette snippits look like they are from a Disneyland episode.

I hate how Disney have split up the supplements on the second disc into "Games, Music and Fun" and "History and Behind The Scenes" :x

Looks like another example of dumbing down the disc. Sadly it seems like the days of the superb Snow White, Bugs' Life and Atlantis DVDs are long behind us. Even when taking massive steps forward by including the commentary and trailers on the US release, Disney seems to be taking steps backwards by including a full frame release and segmenting off the games.

Still, knowing how good the international versions are, I'm still expecting this release to be vastly superior to the Lion King release. :)

They can't do this to me!

I already have a copy! They can't just release additional supplements like that :D

I refuse to buy it.

Probably :D

Hee hee hee....

Good to see there is some additional effort going into it...

[There's a puff of smoke, just to the left of Loomis' head and the Pluto Devil Alter-Ego appears hovering alongside Loomis' left ear]

Pluto Devil: Hiya mate. Got a moral dilemma you need a little advice on? Got your eyes on that juicy bone over there in Butch's bowel?

Loomis: No. [Loomis does a double take at the bone.] But I must admit it looks mighty tempting. It just I'm wondering if I should buy the R1 Sleeping Beauty Special Edition.

[There is another puff of smoke to the right of Loomis' head and the Pluto Angel Alter-Ego appears alongside Loomis' right ear pointing at the Pluto Devil Alter-Ego]

Pluto Angel: Don't listen to him. He always steers people wrong. Remember that time with the butcher's sausages?

Loomis: No, No. It's nothing like that. I'm not going to steal the bone. (But it does look mighty tempting) I'm just considering buying the American Sleeping Beauty DVD set, that's all, you see I don't really have the money and I have the UK release already.

Pluto Angel: Then save your money Young Loomis – there is plenty more Disney DVD delights more deserving of your hard earned money.

Pluto Devil: Don't listen to that fuddy-duddy. You want something you take it. Worry about the future when it happens.

Pluto Angel: A wise man always plans for the future. A thrifty purchase is a happy purchase.

Pluto Devil: A bird in he hand is worth two in the bush.

Pluto Angel: A penny saved is a penny earned.

Pluto Devil: Seize the day, as it may be your last.

[Loomis has had enough]

Loomis: Cut it our guys. I'll wait and see what the full contents of the American set are and make a decision then. In the meantime…

[Loomis quickly scampers over and picks up the bone from Butch's bowel and runs off down the road]

Loomis (con't): … I'm sure nobody will mind if I take this. Mmmmmm I'll enjoy this little beauty later.
