Our future kids will be happy...

This tought just came to my mind.

I'm only 23 and I don't want to have kids for A WHILE....

But our kids will be lucky. By the time they are born we'll be done (or almost done) with the Disney Animated Classics. So whenever they want to watch a movie, they'd just have to put it in the DVD player.

That's in contrast with us that had to wait patiently for them to be released in VHS when we were kids and on DVD as adults.

Most special for us of course the VHS time. (And using the word again), I remember how special it was for me to watch them with my mom. So I can't imagine how it would be for me when the time comes as a dad.

Anyone else thought about this?

Well, I'm (or we're since my sig. other posts sometimes ) only turning 20 this year, but I have that same thought whenever I buy DISNEY DVDs or when people ask why we have a DVD collection.

I think the *future* kids will be LUCKIER than us because they would have all (Or most) of the great DISNEY movies at their fingertips instead of waiting.

...and in the years to come, I think the First DVD for them to watch will have to be...ALADDIN

That's true. Didn't think about that. So that makes Disney DVDs have more value (in all senses) than our other regular DVD's.

Yeah, that is nice idea. I'll make them be this one their favorite. Altough, I don't think this would be hard.

Well, at this point in time, I don't have a strong desire to have little Jack Jrs, so I can't really sympathize with ya. But you never know - I may change my mind (or my wife may change it for me)! Even if I had some though, I'd tell them to keep their grubby little peanut butter fingers off my DVD collection. (Just kidding)

I agree I'm 21 years old and already in college going to university in a couple of months. I already had a great life so far and don't think about dying yet. But when I do have children I'm going to past on the Disney tradition to them. By the time I'm 40 they probably have a new format of DVD's. Our future children will be luckier since we will probably past on our Disney DVD's to them. I almost have the whole Disney Animation Collection and I just need 8 more classic animated films. Also they will get other DVD's like Star Wars, Spider-Man, X-Men, Lord of the Rings, etc.
The sad part is what if our children don't like Disney films.
I just need Bambi, Cinderella, Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Pinocchio and Tarzan. I really know our future children will be proud to be parents of Disneymanias or DVD's manias at that point. It will be hard to let go the Disney DVD's when we die but we are going to have to end our lives.

I'm with you, EGJ. I'm a bit more excited about the prospect of marriage and parenting than it seems a lot of you are. I can see myself having my first kid as early as five or six years from now, so it is definitely something I consider as I build up my Disney DVD collection, though the primary reason right now remains that I enjoy them for myself. I doubt Blu-Ray will be a dominant force by the time I'm rearing a family, though (call me a skeptic if you wish, but it's not a term that normally applies to me), so I think it's a wise investment for those of us around the age that has posted in this thread thus far.

Well, awallaceunc, in my case I first have to have a gf before the kids can come...

But I'm hoping I will... And even when I do, I won't be having kids for a while... I want to enjoy my life as it is for more time. But anyways, when the time comes I'd like to have three or at least two; I was only child and I know how lonely one can feel.

And besides, when you get old you want to have a family around you to keep you company.

And going back to my post...

It is not that I considered buying my Disney DVDs (or regular ones for that matter) for my future family as you do. As you read before, it was something that just came to my mind and thinking carefully about that: it is a very nice tought to keep.

Yea, good point, but I'm only 17 (18 this wednesday!) and I'm certainly not thinking about kids for a loooooooong time!

Actually though, we say they'll be luckier to have the dvds all at their fingertips, but I actually like the anticipation for Disney dvds as well as other things! Maybe we're the "lucky" ones and we just don't realize it! Just a thought!

Um...while I myself can't wait for when I'll be a parent (like, probably 8-10 years from now), I kind of see the kids as a bit unlucky. Here's how I see it:

Yes, we had to wait for the movies to be on VHS and/or DVD. Yes, it was a bitch cause they cost so much initially but eventually we were able to collect them. Yes, VHS soon became obsolete and DVD ruled, thus we had to wait all over again in order to upgrade. Yes, VHS had okay-to-bad quality, while DVD has great quality. But in the end, we appreciated these VHS's and DVDs much more because of the fact that we HAD TO HAVE them, but we HAD TO WAIT. Their sentimental value increased as time went on because as they went out of print, we were glad we got them when we did.

But in the future, with the VHS's and DVD's so readily available for our kids, yeah, they'll appreciate that they'll have the movies. But they would take it for granted. Once you have something, doesn't it sometimes lose that special "thing"...you know, the need you had for it, and the daydreaming that once you had it all would be right with the world? These kids, they won't have that special "thing". Cause they'll already have it. They'll think it's readily available, so it's not as important.

And let's not forget about format changes. In the next few years, we'll see HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, etc. Who knows what's after that? Eventually the kids will probably not want to play an old DVD, but the new supercalifragilisticexpialidocious format. So then THEY'LL have to wait for the titles to come on the new format. And our VHS's and DVDs will probably be their consolation prize until the new format comes out with the titles they want. Hardly special at all, just the thing for them to get buy until the newer flashier model comes out.

Well, that's true in some ways. I'll use myself as an example. I had to wait forever to finally have Aladdin on DVD. I couldn't wait the days. Even tough I had preordered it, I saw it in a store a day before the release date and I bought it. Then, I couldn't wait for my Collector's to arrive so I canceled the order and bought it myself. Then I watched the movie so many times and saw all the extras in probably 3 days.... All this because I LOVE THE MOVIE. But now that time has gone by that iterest and emotion has declined in such a way... So you can say that about our future kids but even us have experience the same thing. And that doesn't mean we don't appreciate them. So I can guess the same thing will happen to our kids.

That's also true. The difference would be that the DVD is already an awesome format in all the ways; in contrast with the VHS.

When I have kids I'm hoping they start their own collection. I'll have mine and of course I'll share with family but growing up I wanted my own movies besides the ones my other family members had so I could build my own collction.

Ah well.... I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I truly hope our kids will love and respect Disney as much as we do? It's tuff to say though? My quest for the Ultimate Disney Dvd Collection continues for the sake of my own desires, but I also hope that my children enjoy them as well. My son Tyler is just over 1 1/2 years old and is just now starting to notice the T.V. It's seems the CGI animation from Shrek, Toy Story, Monsters Inc, etc attracts him the most. Which makes me wonder whether or not he will enjoy the classsics? Today's cartoons suck: Pokemon, Dragonball Z, YU-GI-OH, just to name a few. What happened to: Bugs, Smurfs, Flinstones, Scooby Doo, Thundercats, Transformers, G.I. Joe, you know, real cartoons!!! I guess I'm just gettin old. I miss the 80's Anyway, Only time will tell whether or not Disney classics will make an impression with today's youth?

I havn't really thought about having kids yet. But probablly in 7 years or so. if I ever find the right girl lol. I think they will be extremely lucky, because they won't have to wait for the platinum dvds to come out like I did. I hope that my wife will like Disney as much as me. If that's humanly possible
